Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church Stewardship Reflections Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church Third Sunday of Lent Weekend of March 6/7, 2021 The cleansing of the temple shows Jesus in a moment of righteous anger — not something we see South Sunset and West 8th Street – PO Box 1347 very often. In this passage, Jesus is angry at the misuse of the temple area. He sees people bartering Littlefield, TX 79339 over mere pennies, animals being bought for sacrifice, and people milling about in a space designated sacredheartlittlefield.org for prayer and worship. This all seems foreign to us, as our churches do not resemble this chaotic scene. Or do they? Are we good stewards of our space? Jesus was angered at the lack of reverence in His Father’s house. Do we struggle with this in our own church? Do we approach the sanctuary Sunday, March 7, 2021 in awe, knowing that God is present there? Do we pray in earnest, or mumble our way through the Third Sunday of Lent Mass? Once going through Liverpool airport dressed as a priest the customs officer stopped me and said “Can I see your breviary Father” I showed it to him and he said “I believe you”, “most bogus priests don’t know anything about the priest’s breviary but the real ones always have one!” He’d get a surprise today because many priests have breviary online and read it from their iPads or mobile phones. The five offices of the breviary are: “Office of Readings, said near to dawn if possible, Morning prayer (sometimes called Lauds) said before 9am, Midday prayer (sometimes called Terce, Sext or None depending on the hours it is celebrated) said from midday to 3pm, Evening prayer (sometimes called Vespers) said around beginning of evening and Night prayer (sometimes called Compline because it completes the day ) said before going to bed. The times for saying them are quite flexible and some priests if they have to go out all day, say them all together early, or if they come back very late say them all together at night time! Ideally they should be celebrated at the hour of the day they represent.

Confirmation candidates should choose a saint’s name, the name of a biblical hero, or the name of a virtuous person they admire (living or deceased) as their Confirmation name. 2. The name must not contain any derivative of the name of Satan or the devil (For example, Satana or Devila). 3. Confirmation candidates may use their Baptismal name. Because Confirmation is the completion of our Baptism, it is an opportunity to reaffirm our initiation and to strengthen the connection between these two sacraments by using again their Baptismal name. 4. On this occasion, he receives the Anointing of the sick, then slowly recovers, but, after about a month, it is not yet fully restored. The doctors who treat him suggest a rest in San Remo, so that the healthy climate of the Ligurian town can benefit his health]. At dawn on Wednesday March 6, the eve of his departure for San Remo, Don Luigi Orione went to the Cathedral from the Mother House of Tortona, in a car driven by his Co-brother Don Adriano Calegari. Before leaving, he wants to pay homage to the urn of San Marziano, patron of the city, whose liturgical memory occurs on that day. For a few minutes he remains in prayer near the urn of the Saint. Immediately afterwards, still in the car, Don Orione goes to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Safe Keeping: «Let's go and say goodbye to Our Lady!», he says to the driver. He goes to the right end of the balustrade of the high altar, then kneels and remains for a few minutes in prayer. Returning to the Mother House, Don Orione celebrates Mass at the community.     News from the General Procura of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri March 2009 Visit to the Oratorian Community in Formation in Strasbourg 2 March 2009 From 2-5 March the Procurator General visited the priests of the Oratorian community in formation in the Archdiocese of Strasbourg, and met the Archbishop, His Excellence Jean- Pierre Grallet, as well as the Auxiliary Bishop, His Excellence Christian Kratz. Celebration in Avignon 7 March 2009 The Procurator General sent his good wishes to the Archdiocese of Avignon, France, which has announced its celebrations marking the seventh anniversary of the beginning of the residence of the Popes in that city (1309-1377). Pope Benedict XVI, in his letter ‘Septingentesimus iam appetit annus’ has nominated as his special delegate to the celebrations His Eminence Cardinal Paul Poupard. The Oratorian Family will naturally remember in connection with these celebrations the episcopal ministry in Avignon of two of the first disciples of S. Philip Neri, Francesco Maria Tarugi and Giovan Francesco Bordini. We can happily recall the words spoken of Tarugi by a contemporary: ‘To our land of Gaul Tarugi brought such a clear light of virtue that bishops came to him frequently from the most remote parts, and indeed from every corner of France, as to a model of – and therefore an inspiration for – ecclesiastical discipline.     “Rooted and grounded in Love” (Eph 3:17) Booklet for community reflection 2017 - 2018 THE SONS OF DIVINE PROVIDENCE ( DON ORIONE) PRESENTATION Rome, 23 June 2017 145th anniversary of the birth of Don Orione Dear Confreres, a few weeks ago Pope Francis, on a pastoral visit to Genoa, actu- ally 27th May, during a meeting with priests, consecrated people and seminarians, was replying to a question from a priest of the dio- cese, when to our surprise, he mentioned the name of our Father Founder. The question was about guidance on how to “live an intense spir- itual life” in the ministerial priesthood, given the “complexity of modern life and many duties including administration” which tend to lead one to live in a very dispersed and piecemeal way. St. Luigi Orione is mentioned as a loving remembrance by Pope Francis at the end of a reflection in which he presents the model priest as one who, in his daily life, knows how to harmonize and bal- ance the tension between “meeting the Father and meeting people” in imitation of “Jesus’ style”. This is a fundamental value. In fact, “If we imagine the daily timetable of Jesus, reading the Gospels we can say that most of his time he spent in the street. That meant close- ness to the people and their problems. He did not hide. Then in the evening many times he did hide in order to pray, to be with the Fa- ther”. Thus the “first value” is not to be afraid “of movement and losing oneself in our time”, and to decide not to lead a “static life” and to be “in the street” to be “a man on the move, open to the surprises of God”.

Storie di benefattori orionini Il principe von Pauer Il principe Ernesto Carlo von Pauer di Faucigny Lucinge nacque a Trieste il 6 febbraio 1886, non si sposò mai e visse viaggiando per il mondo portando con sé tutto ciò che gli ap - parteneva in due valigie di cuoio. Un eccentrico dunque, che forse durante i suoi vaga - bondaggi giunse a Genova e visitò in incognito il centro di assistenza per anziani del Paverano, che lo conquistò tanto da decidere di lasciare in eredità metà della sua ingente fortuna al Don Orione, e l’altra metà ai Padri Salesiani di Torino. Morì nel 1979 e riposa al ci - mitero di Staglieno, ricordato da una lapide che riporta soltanto il suo nome: Carletto.
