V rámci teorie práce představuje obecné náležitosti hudebního videoklipu a jeho strukturu, vztah mezi videoklipem a skladbou, dále také žánry a populární režiséry videoklipů. Vzhledem ke zvolenému vzorku videoklipů je pozornost věnována i roli žen v audiovizi. Cílem práce je v rámci analýzy identifikovat, popsat a interpretovat prvky, které jsou k reprezentaci tématu užity, a na základě analýzy demonstrovat skutečnost, že hudební videoklipy představují významné médium. Výzkum vychází z návrhu sémiotické analýzy Daniela Chandlera.
