Hmmm, so everything is handed to you, are handsome, great in bed, rich etc etc etc. Does that make you perfect? I loved this book! I totally loved the other characters better than the main one. The stories they told reminded me quite a bit of the parables in the Bible. They were supposed to The Perfect Fool lessons, too. However, the main character is blind and stupid, in my opinion. Never did get it. The reason I'm giving this book a 4 is I This book was super cute, actually. The reason I'm giving this book a 4 is I hated the ending. It is compared to a modern day Christmas Carol. I love the wit of the characters and the spiritual perspective. The author is quite the story-teller, with a clever wit and delightful characters. Stephen Lang The Perfect Fool is an opera in one act with music and libretto by the English composer Gustav Holst. Holst composed the work over the period of to Holst had originally asked Clifford Bax to write the libretto, but Bax declined. In the opera, the part of the Fool consists of only one word. One interpretation of the possible symbolism of the opera, from Donald Tovey, is that the Princess symbolises the world of opera and the Fool represents the British public. The opera was not a success, and audiences found the story confusing. And even, what is an orchestra? Does the Morley Consort Lessons count as an orchestra? What about Gabrieli with a couple of brass choirs, or even four brass choirs, belting it out at each other across the nave of San Marco? Or the vast resources of the Striggio etc Royal Wedding and the Florentine Intermedii, which seem to have included the original four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie, or at least a group of musicians popping out of the pastry. I’m not sure that any of these count as orchestras. The Morley Consort Lessons are a chamber group playing at home; Gabrieli’s lot wasn’t really an orchestra; The Royal Wed- dings and so forth were a lot of small groups, of the usual renais- sance sorts, playing in turn. Where I am inclined to start is with the first major opera, Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo. Even that tends to be the usual renaissance groups taking turn about, but they are all there in a coherent dra- matic structure, and they certainly add up to an orchestra.

Patronage through Dissemination: Louise Hanson-Dyer’s Patronage of Gustav Holst Daniela Kaleva Gustav Holst has a reputation as one of the most prominent representatives of the English national school of composition from the early decades of the twentieth century. His compositional language was highly original and was influenced by English folk song and Eastern philosophy. Although Holst composed works in a wide range of genres, he is best known for his orchestral suite The Planets. Notwithstanding the great public acclaim of The Planets (which premiered at Queen’s Hall, London, on 15 November 1920),1 his later compositions were less successful with both audiences and critics,2 and he underwent several difficult periods during which he lacked motivation and inspiration for composition. During the last decade of his life, when his popularity was fading, he benefited from the patronage and friendship of Melbourne-born patron and music publisher Louise Hanson-Dyer (see Fig. 1). Hanson-Dyer is known for her award-winning music press and record label Éditions de l’Oiseau-Lyre, established in Paris in 1932, which championed early music, contemporary classical music and young musicians.     Heckelphone / Bass Oboe Repertoire by Peter Hurd; reorganized and amended by Holger Hoos, editor-in-chief since 2020 version 1.2 (21 March 2021) This collection is based on the catalogue of musical works requiring heckelphone or bass oboe instrumen- tation assembled by Peter Hurd beginning in 1998. For this new edition, the original version of the repertoire list has been edited for accuracy, completeness and consistency, and it has been extended with a number of newly discovered pieces. Some entries could not (yet) be rigorously verified for accuracy; these were included nonetheless, to provide leads for future investigation, but are marked clearly. Pieces were selected for inclusion based solely on the use of heckelphone, bass oboe or lupophone, without any attempt at assessing their artistic merit. Arrangements of pieces not originally intended for these instruments were included when there was clear evidence that they had found a significant audience.     SAT Nov 17 at 7:30pm SUN Nov 18 at 2:00pm anniversary concert season Five Flags Theater PROGRAM NOTES on air Downtown Dubuque WILLIAM INTRILIGATOR, Music Director & Conductor This concert continues the 2018-19 season’s theme of the Four Elements with music evoking “Air.” Mostly, this theme is explored through music for the wind instruments — brass and woodwinds — whose sounds are produced through the pressure and flow of air. Canzon Septimi Toni No. 2 During the 16th and 17th centuries, no city in Italy — and probably no city in Europe — had a musical tradition that rivaled that of Venice. With its immense wealth, the city developed a highly ornate style of music for both voices and instruments that suited its taste for ceremonies and festivals. And much of its greatest music was inspired by the acoustical properties of its Giovanni Gabrieli most famous edifice, the richly Byzantine St. Mark’s Basilica. (c. 1555-1612) The greatest composer of the Venetian High Renaissance, Giovanni Gabrieli spent most of his Instrumentation: life in and around St. Mark’s, finally becoming its chief organist and music director from 1585 4 horns, 4 trumpets, until his death in 1612. His uncle and teacher, Andrea Gabrieli, had preceded him in the post 4 trombone, 2 tuba and was almost as illustrious a creator. Building on Andrea’s innovations, Giovanni developed a spectacular style of music for both voices and instruments that gloried in the dramatic antiphonal effects that could be created by ensembles divided among the cathedral’s upper galleries. Today we still prize Gabrieli for having composed some of the most thrilling music ever devised for brass instruments.
