While the city has grown in terms of investment and social capital, it has not attained the preeminent status on the global stage that was expected. One important reason for this is that Berlin remains no more than a secondary hub in the global airline industry. In this article, we measure the city’s importance in airline networks at four points from 1989 to 2006. We then explain the city’s stature in those networks today as a product of both larger forces in the airline industry and circumstances more specific to Berlin. The former include liberalization and the development of airline alliances. In Berlin, meanwhile, the fractured airport system, which the city inherited from the Cold War, has been an obstacle to Berlin’s aspirations for centrality in the airline industry. -

Otros dos directivos de esta aerolínea también trabajan ahora en la empresa rescatada por el Gobierno VozPópuli Los gestores de Plus Ultra, la aerolínea rescatada por el Gobierno con préstamos por valor de 53 millones de euros, acumulan un historial de fracasos empresariales, con la quiebra de Air Madrid y también de otras compañías venezolanas, según ha podido saber Vozpópuli. Plus Ultra.Plus Ultra recibe el doble de dinero que Air Europa por cada euro facturadoPlus Ultra recibe el doble de dinero que Air Europa por cada euro facturado Plus Ultra: diez evidencias de prevaricación y cuatro ministras bajo sospecha El director financiero de Plus Ultra, Alejandro Delgado, presidió durante varios años Santa Bárbara Airlines (SBA), una aerolínea venezolana que quebró en 2018 por problemas de solvencia. Según ha podido saber este periódico, el directivo venezolano saltó del 'barco' a finales de 2017, cuando ya existían rumores de quiebra y apenas seis meses antes de la disolución definitiva de SBA. Delgado es el máximo responsable de las finanzas de Plus Ultra desde enero de 2021, hace apenas tres meses. No obstante, aterrizó en la aerolínea en noviembre de 2017, cuando abandonó SBA, ocupando el puesto de gerente general adjunto. En la aerolínea Santa Barbara también asumió varios puestos desde su llegada en 2009 como coordinador de planificación y presupuesto. En 2014 ascendió a vicepresidente ejecutivo de la compañía y ya en 2015 tomó los mandos como presidente ejecutivo de la empresa. -

The evolution of selected enterprises in the aviation industry in Romania and Poland after 1989 Andrzej Dubicki1) Abstract Year 1989 was an important turning point, not only in the political history of Poland and Romania, but also for the transport sector of both countries. Political events allowed for a thorough reconstruction of the air transport sector in both countries. Both airfleets entered the new political reality as state-owned enterprises, though with different traditions. Both countries have begun transforming their own aviation market in a similar place, with a rather outdated air fleet, with some few modern aircraft. Nevertheless, the further development of respective aviation markets took place in different ways, as long as no native competitor for LOT appeared in Poland for various reasons, the situation is somewhat different in Romania and TAROM now experiences serious competition from the low-cost carrier BlueAir. Both state-owned enterprises had to take advantage of public aid, LOT in 2012, while TAROM in 2020.Time will show whether the Romanian national carrier will be able to repeat the success of the Polish one, which after a period of recession is now able to expand on the European market.The aim of the article is to show and compare the development of the Polish and Roumanian air markets and to try to find common points of the situation created after 1989. There will be used various sources, including monographs, analysis and articles of this specific topic. -

Aircraft Loss-of-Control Accident Analysis Christine M. Belcastro* and John V. Foster† NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, Virginia, 23681 Loss of control remains one of the largest contributors to fatal aircraft accidents worldwide. Aircraft loss-of-control accidents are complex in that they can result from numerous causal and contributing factors acting alone or (more often) in combination. Hence, there is no single intervention strategy to prevent these accidents. To gain a better understanding into aircraft loss-of-control events and possible intervention strategies, this paper presents a detailed analysis of loss-of-control accident data (predominantly from Part 121), including worst case combinations of causal and contributing factors and their sequencing. Future potential risks are also considered. Introduction oss of control remains one of the largest contributors to fatal aircraft accidents. As shown in Figure 1, in-flight L loss of control (LOC) is the largest fatal accident category for commercial jet airplane accidents worldwide occurring from 1999 through 2008, and resulted in 22 accidents and 1,991 total fatalities. 1 Aircraft loss of control is a significant contributor to accidents and fatalities across all vehicle classes, operational categories, and phases of flight. It is also a highly complex event, usually resulting from multiple causal and contributing factors that can occur individually or (more often) in combination. There is therefore no single intervention strategy that can be readily identified to prevent LOC accidents. -

In the draft circular, Part I reviews the main events in or affecting international civil aviation in 1999; Part II analyses trends in the world economy and the air transport industry and presents global forecasts of airline scheduled passenger traffic through to 2002; and Part III reviews, on a region-by-region basis, the year 1999 and gives prospects through to 2002. This information paper has been provided to supplement the working paper ANSConf-WP/13 and as background material. Developments concerning providers of air transport infrastructure, both airports and air navigation services, discussed in Chapter 3 might be of particular interest to Conference participants. 1.
