Forces pullin' from the center of the earth again, I can feel it. Líve, "Lighting Crashes" The Field House was going to be full of bodies; thrashing music and deafening chords were going to be filling the air and I couldn't fucking wait. Líve was on tour for their Throwing Copper album and their concert at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute was a good excuse for us to take a trip. We were all two months into our freshman year in college. Alice was studying fashion at F.I.T. and I was at N.Y.U. School of Arts and Sciences preparing for a major in God-knows-what. I was pretty content being undeclared since I'd spent all of high school being the perfect son. I got the good grades, was always on high honor roll, student body president, Valedictorian. I was the most wholesome guy in school in the perfect little suburb of Chicago where we grew up. Now, in college, I was ready to be rebellious, reckless; ready to do something stupid and crazy. I was ready to experience what it felt like to really live. - 6 - I was more excited than anyone since I'd been following Líve for a while. Jasper, my twin sister Alice's boyfriend (and a good friend of mine since elementary school) was studying engineering there, so we'd piled into my Volvo to drive up from New York City. Our little brother Emmett, who was still in high school, wasn't grounded for once and was able to come along with us. We didn't tell our parents he brought his new girlfriend Rosalie along when he took the train from Chicago to New York yesterday. Actually, we didn't tell our parents about the concert at all. Carlisle and Esme were great parents and all, but really, they didn't need to know everything. The whole drive up I soaked in the knowledge that this was what it was like to really feel free. The feeling of being eighteen, of being able to make the decision to just get up and do something without parental consent was incredibly liberating. I gripped the steering wheel tightly in anticipation. Once we pulled into the parking lot at R.P.I., Alice jumped out of the car and ran towards Jasper, catapulting herself into his arms. I hadn't even put the car in park yet. I was happy for her but it made my chest tighten a bit. Of course I'd dated girls in high school; I'd lost my virginity to the daughter of our family friends, Tanya Denali on prom night, clumsy and drunk in the backseat of my car. But I'd never been in love-not the way they were. I turned off the Volvo and stepped out of the driver's side as Emmett and Rosalie unfolded themselves from the backseat. Alice and Jasper uncurled themselves from their intense embrace as we walked towards them. "Jasper, my man! How's life on your own, bro?" Emmett asked Jasper enthusiastically as he reached in for a fist bump. Jasper bumped him back with the arm that wasn't tightly wrapped around Alice and responded, "Not bad, Emmett, not bad." He then looked down at her and said, "A little lonely though." Jasper kissed her forehead as Alice broke out in a huge smile, blushing as she leaned her head against his shoulder. "I assume this is Rosalie?" Jasper asked. He hadn't met Rosalie yet since she and Emmett had started dating when we all left for college. Emmett yanked her into a one-armed bear hug. Rosalie's head ricocheted slightly from intensity of the movement, giving Emmett an annoyed look which he didn't notice. "Yeah, this is my girl," Emmett replied and looked down to beam at Rosalie, effectively melting her irritated stare. Jasper bowed his head forward slightly, gentlemanly. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Rosalie," he said. She flashed him one of her signature smiles in response. - 7 - I had stood there uncomfortably as all the introductions were being made, my hands roughly stuck into my pockets. Now as each couple grinned at his or her significant other, I stared at the ground and kicked at it with my toe, intensely conscious of being single. I pretended not to notice as Jasper lowered his head and coughed, becoming aware of my awkwardness. He always had the strangest way of sensing other people's emotions. "So, you psyched for the concert, Edward? You've been following Líve for a while," Jasper asked me. I looked up from the circle of dirt my toe had created and grinned. "Yeah, I'm totally psyched." "Well we all know Edward is meant to be a musician," Alice trilled, grinning up at me from her nook in Jasper's arm. "Now if he'd just get up the guts to audition for the Tisch School of Arts and transfer out of Arts and Sciences, he'd actually be a musician instead of just talking about it." Her teasing voice tinkled like a bell. "It's gonna happen someday Edward, I've seen it," she said. "Oh you and your weird dreams, Alice," Emmett groaned. "Hey are we gonna get some booze for this party tonight? I wanna get wasted!" Rosalie rolled her eyes and Alice darted forward, lightning fast, smacking Emmett on the arm. "Ow!" he cried, letting go of Rosalie and rubbing his injured arm. Jasper chuckled at him. "It's not funny, man! She hits really freakin' hard for such a tiny freakin' pixie!" "No getting wasted tonight, Emmett!" Alice warned. "Besides, we don't have time to get booze. We've got to go shopping for clothes! We can't have Edward over there looking like Zach Morris in a mosh pit tonight, can we?" "Oh I'm totally in for shopping." Rosalie nodded enthusiastically, clearly excited. I looked down at my faded washed jeans and button down shirt. "Zach Morris?" I asked incredulously. Alice giggled. "All right, fine," I sighed. "Jasper, lead us to the mall." "There's a new store I've been dying to check out!" Alice said over her shoulder as she speed-walked ahead of us once we entered the mall. She seemed to instinctively know exactly where to go. She stopped in front of a store with a large metal arch entrance, punk music screaming from within. A metal sign blaring the words "Hot Topic" in red hung ominously over the doorway. Alice clapped her hands, cooing, - 8 - "Here it is!" She and Rosalie practically danced inside the store and started pulling clothes off hangers. Jasper smiled and shook his head. "Man…women and shopping," Emmett moaned melodramatically. "Actually, this store is kinda cool," I said, stepping through the archway. On one side of the store there were all women's clothes; corsets and short leather skirts, spiked collars and Manic Panic hair color. On the other was the men's side, with rock band T-shirts in square plastic frames hung along the walls, a myriad of jeans and a whole section of converse sneakers and boots.

  • Full Results of Survey of Songs
Existential Songs Full results Supplementary material for Mick Cooper’s Existential psychotherapy and counselling: Contributions to a pluralistic practice (Sage, 2015), Appendix. One of the great strengths of existential philosophy is that it stretches far beyond psychotherapy and counselling; into art, literature and many other forms of popular culture. This means that there are many – including films, novels and songs that convey the key messages of existentialism. These may be useful for trainees of existential therapy, and also as recommendations for clients to deepen an understanding of this way of seeing the world. In order to identify the most helpful resources, an online survey was conducted in the summer of 2014 to identify the key existential films, books and novels. Invites were sent out via email to existential training institutes and societies, and through social media. Participants were invited to nominate up to three of each art media that ‘most strongly communicate the core messages of existentialism’. In total, 119 people took part in the survey (i.e., gave one or more response). Approximately half were female (n = 57) and half were male (n = 56), with one of other gender. The average age was 47 years old (range 26–89). The participants were primarily distributed across the UK (n = 37), continental Europe (n = 34), North America (n = 24), Australia (n = 15) and Asia (n = 6). Around 90% of the respondents were either qualified therapists (n = 78) or in training (n = 26). Of these, around two-thirds (n = 69) considered themselves existential therapists, and one third (n = 32) did not. There were 235 nominations for the key existential song, with enormous variation across the different respondents.

  • Wail of an Ebbing Tide © 2016 Xena Torres
Wail of an Ebbing Tide © 2016 Xena Torres www.bitchofrome.com/pennydreadful Penny Dreadful is the copyright property of Showtime and Sky. It was created by John Logan and produced by Desert Wolf Productions and Neal Street Productions. This fan fiction story has been written for entertainment purposes only out of love for the show and out of respect to my fellow Dreadfuls. Dedicated to Eva Green for the gift of Vanessa Ives & my fellow Dreadfuls AUTHOR’S NOTE This story rewrites the ending of the final episode of Penny Dreadful, “The Blessed Dark,” from the moment Ethan enters the white bricked room with Vanessa. It is then divided into six parts (“episodes”) in which I attempt to conclude the series, wrapping up loose threads and plot points that I think most Dreadfuls would agree were left unresolved at the end of the series. Please note that I am not someone who is against tragic end- ings, nor do I think endings have to be sunshine and rainbows, where none of the characters die and they all go off to live perfect lives. I do, however, think endings to series need to give viewers closure and have to bring the characters to a point where we can accept they will live on without us watching. For my ending, I fol- lowed the threads already presented on the show. I also used the books Penny Dreadful drew from, directly and indirectly, while other parts were completely my own. Dr. Jekyll does not appear in this novel. While his story was disappointing, I felt it was as concluded as it could be without start- ing a new thread and this fan fiction is an attempt to conclude the show, not the first part of a virtual series.

  • The Seven Stages of Psychological Development
The Seven Stages of Psychological Development Richard Barrett The Seven Stages of Psychological Development The Seven Stages of Psychological Development Every human being grows in stages of psychological development, operates at levels of consciousness and lives inside a worldview. There are many models of human development, each of which describes the process of psychological growth in slightly dierent ways.[1], [2] The Barrett Seven Stages of Psychological Development Model is similar to most other developmental models but diers in one important respect. It looks at the human psyche[3] through the lens of ego-soul dynamics—the growth and development of the ego, the alignment of the ego with the soul, and the activation of the soul consciousness. Most other models of human development ignore the ego and the soul. They ignore the fundamental reality of our being. You cannot understand your life if you ignore the motivations of the ego and the soul. The seven stages of individual psychological development and how they relate to the three stages of the evolution of the human psyche are shown in Figure1. Figure 1: The Seven Stages of Psychological Development A Publication of the Barrett Academy for the Advancement of Human Values Page 1 The Seven Stages of Psychological Development The growth and development of the ego Between the moment we are born and the time we reach physical maturity, around twenty to twenty-ve years of age, we pass through three stages of psychological development: surviving, conforming, and dierentiating. These stages are primarily driven by our biological development— the development of our triune brain[4] and the socialization needs thrust upon us by our parents and the culture of the community in which we live.

  • Wikipedia Beetles Dung Beetles Are Beetles That Feed on Feces
Wikipedia beetles Dung beetles are beetles that feed on feces. Some species of dung beetles can bury dung times their own mass in one night. Many dung beetles, known as rollers , roll dung into round balls, which are used as a food source or breeding chambers. Others, known as tunnelers , bury the dung wherever they find it. A third group, the dwellers , neither roll nor burrow: they simply live in manure. They are often attracted by the dung collected by burrowing owls. There are dung beetle species of different colours and sizes, and some functional traits such as body mass or biomass and leg length can have high levels of variability. All the species belong to the superfamily Scarabaeoidea , most of them to the subfamilies Scarabaeinae and Aphodiinae of the family Scarabaeidae scarab beetles. As most species of Scarabaeinae feed exclusively on feces, that subfamily is often dubbed true dung beetles. There are dung-feeding beetles which belong to other families, such as the Geotrupidae the earth-boring dung beetle. The Scarabaeinae alone comprises more than 5, species. The nocturnal African dung beetle Scarabaeus satyrus is one of the few known non-vertebrate animals that navigate and orient themselves using the Milky Way. Dung beetles are not a single taxonomic group; dung feeding is found in a number of families of beetles, so the behaviour cannot be assumed to have evolved only once. Dung beetles live in many habitats , including desert, grasslands and savannas , [9] farmlands , and native and planted forests. They are found on all continents except Antarctica. They eat the dung of herbivores and omnivores , and prefer that produced by the latter.

VINYL Def Leppard were the definitive hard rock band of the ‘80s. There were groups that rocked harder, but few captured the spirit of the times quite as well. Emerging in the late ‘70s as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Def Leppard gained a following outside of that scene by toning down their heavy riffs and emphasizing melody. In The Many Faces of Def Leppard, we are going to dig deep into the lesser known work of their members, collaborations, side projects and of course, their hit-filled catalog. • Def Leppard “Hysteria” By: Kyle Harman
Def Leppard “Hysteria” By: Kyle Harman Hysteria would be a fitting name for the album thought Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen, following his 1984 injury from a horrific car accident that resulted in the loss of his left arm, Hysteria was the perfect title to describe the worldwide media coverage that followed the band between the years of 1984 and 1987. The album was the last to feature the late Steve Clark and his role of lead guitarist due to an overdose in the year of 1992. In the very prime years of glam metal in the late 80’s at the dawn of grunge genre about to begin, Def Leppard delivered the bands bestselling album to date with selling 25 million copies worldwide and 12 million in the US alone. The three year recording process of Hysteria was painstaking with the accident of drummer Rick Allen, and with producers coming and going left the band with the perfect example of sometimes patience truly does pay off. A unique recording process took place where each member recorded their own recordings at separate times, allowing each member to focus on their own performance on the album. The original intent of the album was to be a rock version of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, with the desire of having every song off the album as a possible hit single. The end result of the album was impressive to say the least with 7 singles released off the single album alone. The album recording sessions were painstaking at times, “Animal” consisted of 2 and a half years to produce its final product, where “Pour Some Sugar On Me” was finished within two weeks.
