Welcome to our information event Scottish Water has been developing investment plans to ensure that we can continue to provide clear, fresh drinking water to our customers Our plans include improvements to the security of water supply for customers in Gobhaig and Huisinis. The objectives of today’s event are: To provide information on our plans To discuss how we can manage the impact of construction work To answer questions and discuss any concerns We have information on: Where work will take place Where we are in the planning process What the proposed investment means for you What happens next and how you can keep in touch Capital/404137/Ross-Shire Engineering scottishwater.co.uk [email protected] facebook.com/scottishwater 0800 0778778 @scottish_water The map below shows an overview of our planned investment including the location of the new Gobhaig Water Treatment Works (WTW), new storage tank and water main to Gobhaig and Huisinis. Once the proposed new infrastructure has been built, the existing Gobhaig WTW will no longer be required and decommissioned. Capital/404137/Ross-Shire Engineering scottishwater.co.uk [email protected] facebook.com/scottishwater 0800 0778778 @scottish_water There are a number of factors that are driving the proposed investment for Gobhaig and Huisinis. The existing Water Treatment Works (WTW) need to be replaced to ensure we can continue to provide clear, fresh drinking water to our customers. The new infrastructure will enable us to provide enough water to meet peak demand in the summer and avoid the need to bring in/import water by tanker at busy times. In addition to being able to meet increased demand during the tourist season the investment will enable growth, including new housing. The existing Water Treatment Works has served the area well but is not suitable to meet operational needs in the future. Capital/404137/Ross- Shire Engineering scottishwater.co.uk [email protected] facebook.com/scottishwater 0800 0778778 @scottish_water The new Water Treatment Works will be constructed by Ross-shire Engineering at their specialised factory in Muir of Ord, before delivery to the site The new works will have capacity to produce up to 20,000 litres of drinking water per day and will be supplied by an abundant source of raw water from Loch Cnoc Mor. Nano-filtration membranes; The main treatment process will involve passing the raw water through a series of membranes that will filter out larger organic compounds while allowing clean water molecules to pass through very fine pores. The water that has passed through the membranes meets stringent water quality standards when it reaches customers’ taps. Chloramination; The new WTWs will use a process called chloramination to ensure the water is safe. This is a change from simple chlorination which is currently used. Chloramination is already used to provide safe drinking water to over 1,000,000 customers across Scotland, including in Tarbert, Barra, Benbecula, Inverness, Fort William and Kyle of Lochalsh. As part of its long-term investment programme to improve water quality to its customers, Scottish Water is gradually increasing the number of areas in Scotland being supplied with chloraminated water. Engagement is currently ongoing with local stakeholders to agree how best to deliver the unit to site to minimise the impact on the local community.
