WOF = width of fabric HWOF = half width of fabric

Tips from Michelle :  When subcutting the strips, if you own the Tucker Trimmer 2, it can be very helpful in cutting down your fabric into the ¼" and ¾" measurements.

 Cut small squares from each of your Fabrics 1-5 and place below to keep you organized. You will use these (5) colors within each of the Snail Trail blocks, and split them across the Diamond Rects centers and Square Squared side triangles.

Precutting Instructions: Precutting of strips is required so that maximum time can be allotted to sewing and block construction. Please be prepared by having the listed precut strips ready for use.

Non-busy, high-contrast fabrics work best with this block design. You will need an extra ¾ to (1) yd. for borders and bindings on each of the project options.

92 | Page #37112 - Rangeley Wall Quilt: Easy and Accurate Stars Deb Tucker

Precutting Instructions: The Rangeley Wall Quilt contains just one large central block measuring 17" when finished. This large central block is comprised of (3) differently-sized stars: (1) large 12" star, (1) medium 8½" star, and (3) small 5" stars. They are all constructed in the same manner but obviously use different pieces. For this reason, the parts of each star are all labeled with the same letters. Construction will be simplified greatly if you correctly label and group your pieces by star size once they are cut. 94 | Page #37113 - Grand Illusion: On-Point Piecing and Simple Sashings Deb Tucker

Precutting Instructions: Precutting is required for this class. We will begin sewing almost immediately, so please come with strips and squares precut and ready for stitching. There is no time allotted for this cutting during the workshop.

This will give you enough shapes to make a block or two, a sashing section or two, and a pieced border section or two. There will be additional cutting and sewing required to complete both the Twin and Queen size quilt projects. Please organize, label, and bag shapes for easy identification.

Note: All strips are cut WOF (Width of Fabric).

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Deb at [email protected].

Preparing Your Quilt Sandwiches:  Press front and back of fat quarters.  Sandwich with your favorite batting. (Margy recommends NOT using a lofty batting for your first sampler.)  Baste using your favorite method. (Margy uses 505 sprays.)

Marking Your Design:  Lay your quilt sandwich on a larger flat surface.  Use a marking tool and the Pattern Guide to mark all lines on the top.

NOTE: You will stitch the marked lines to define each block before class. (Margy uses the straight edge of the Westalee 12" Arc, sewing against the ruler foot.)

#38514 - Alternative Hand- Quilting Stitches Carolyn Forster Finished Quilt Size: 52" x 46" or 54" x 46"

You will need:  (17) 2½" x width of fabric (WOF) fabric strips – Jelly Roll strips would work here!  (1) yd. fabric for the border o Cut into (5) strips 6½" wide  60" x 54" backing fabric  60" x 54" batting  Fabric for binding to complete the quilt when quilted, 20". Cut this into (6) strips 2½" wide.

NOTE: Carolyn usually uses Hobbs Heirloom 80/20, but Warm and Natural or Hobbs Organic with Scrim work well. Use whatever batting you know you get good results with!

Sewing Thread to Tone

Sewing: 1. Sew the (17) strips of fabric together in a pleasing manner. Press seams in (1) direction. 2. Trim off the selvages to square up the top. 3. Join the border fabric together to form (1) long continuous piece 6½" wide. 4. From the border fabric, cut (2) pieces 34½" long - or whatever the (2) shortest sides measure - and sew to the shortest sides of the top. Press seams towards the border. 5. From the remaining border fabric cut (2) pieces the length of the remaining sides. Sew to these quilt top sides and press seams towards the border. 6. Layer the top with backing and batting and baste together. Use your favourite method. Try not to baste along the centre length of the strips or in the ditch, as your quilting will be going here!
