Meadow Covert Public House are Match Report Written By West Bridgford's John Burns It wasn't quite ' we'll fight them on the beaches ' as Winston Churchill famously delighted to be supporting West said as West Bridgford started the game fairly brightly. The first ten minutes saw former Dunkirk full back Ross McCaughey shoot just wide and Tim Hopkinson Bridgford FC. create a good early chance for himself. The home side under the new management team of Craig Clark and Dave Robinson and supported by the ex- perienced Jimmy Albans soon took control though on a heavy playing surface. The Bridgford players reminded me of an old Brenda Lee song ' slipping and sliding' as players seemed to struggle on the boggy surface. The youthful Dunkirk team began to dominate the game and it came as no surprise when Oliver Clark tapped home via the post in the 14th minute for a Dunkirk lead. 1-0 (Dunkirk) Dunkirk captain Tom Maddison and Oliver Clark were controlling the game from midfield allowing wingers Ben Fairclough, on loan from Lincoln United, and Ben Gowing licence to get forward giving the Bridgford full backs of Erentz and McCaughey a torrid time - thankfully for the visitors Martin Kearney made two excellent saves. In the 28th minute though the home side deservedly doubled their lead - Oliver Clark was left completely unmarked from a Ben Gowing corner to stab the ball home, his second of the game. HT 2-0 (Dunkirk) Bridgford made a half time substitution bringing on the enigmatic Abou Sylla for Tom Coole - how apt a Frenchman at Dunkirk. Sylla had an immediate impact on the game with his direct running and pace sparking a resilient Bridgford fight back. The midfield quartet of Aaron Large, Kevin Spriggs and Jamie Spiers had now sprung to life and were starting to influence the game and despite the reds missing skipper Jonathan Ventrella his replacement Dave Belshaw made a su- perb goal line clearance. Both sides made tactical substitutions as the heavy ground took its toll. Akintomide Jayeiola was introduced along with Will Heath for West Bridgford - Heath returning after a 5 month lay off through injury. Sylla con- tinued to run at the Dunkirk defence and on the 68th minute he found Aaron Large who delightfully curled the ball into the top corner. 2-1 (Dunkirk) Bridgford continued to surge forward - Pat Newsome missed a free header from 6 yards and Tim Hopkinson shot wide. Back came Dunkirk with Rob Norris and Steve Chaplin forcing two great saves from Martin Kearney. In the 85th minute Dun- kirk's Oliver Clark was unlucky to be shown a second yellow card for an innocu- ous looking tackle. The home side held on despite late Bridgford pressure and secured all three points.. FT 2-1 (Dunkirk) Man Of The Match: Abou Sylla Joint Manager Chris Marks was disappointed after the game, 'the first half was our worst display of the season with an excellent Dunkirk side taking full advan- tage, the second half was much better but we'd given ourselves too much to do'. NSC 29/09/2016 West Bridgford 3—1 Retford Our last 2 games have resulted in 2 defeats, and prior to those we Prem 01/10/2016 West Bridgford 2—0 Gedling Miners have only lost 5 games, never losing 2 games back to back. We Prem 08/10/2016 West Bridgford 1-1 Barrow Town were knocked out of the Notts FA Senior Cup by Teversal, who Prem 11/10/2016 West Bridgford 4-4 Dunkirk deserved to win as we played so poorly. Then on Saturday last Prem 15/10/2016 West Bridgford 0-2 Radford week we lost to a superb Dunkirk team, who were probably the LC 18/10/2016 West Bridgford 2-2 South Normanton Athletic best team we have played this season, and had certainly Prem 22/10/2016 Anstey Nomads 0-3 West Bridgford improved from the last time we played them, and even then, we Prem 29/10/2016 West Bridgford 4-2 Birstall United only drew with them in a brilliant 4-4 draw. 5-3 So coming in to today’s game we need to see a reaction from our LC 02/11/2016 South Normanton (pens) West Bridgford players. Yes, Ellistown are at the bottom of the league with only 2 Prem 05/11/2016 West Bridgford 1-1 Kimberley Miners Welfare points, and yes we are at the top of the league with 56, so on NSC 08/11/2016 Gedling Miners Welfare 1-6 West Bridgford paper you could say this will be an easy game for us. However Prem 12/11/2016 West Bridgford 4-3 Graham Street Prims with the last 2 results fresh in our minds, this could be a banana Prem 19/11/2016 Arnold Town 4-5 West Bridgford skin we could do without. We trained in the week and will be Prem 22/11/2016 West Bridgford 1-0 Belper United looking for a win and the 3 points that go with it as we try and Prem 26/11/2016 West Bridgford 2-3 Holbrook Sports maintain our lead at the top of a very tight table. Ellistown have Prem 03/12/2016 Blaby & Whetstone 2-7 West Bridgford started to turn results around lately, and although still losing NSC 07/12/2016 West Bridgford 2-1 AFC Mansfield games they are only by the odd goal, so they seem to be on a bit of a charge as they try and save their season. They have 90 Prem 10/12/2016 Holbrook Sports 0-2 West Bridgford signed on players, and we understand they are going through a Prem 17/12/2016 West Bridgford 4-0 Greenwood Meadows period of transition, so it could be an interesting game....lets hope Prem 20/12/2016 West Bridgford 3-1 Stapenhill they don't get their first win today, and we can repeat the earlier Prem 28/12/2016 Borrowash pp West Bridgford game in the season when we won 6-0 at their place. Prem 02/01/2017 West Bridgford pp Borrowash So We hope you all enjoy the game, thanks for coming to support Prem 07/01/2017 West Bridgford 4-2 Ashby Ivanhoe the teams and please join us for a drink in the bar afterwards. Prem TBC Borrowash versus West Bridgford

Prem TBC West Bridgford versus Borrowash West Bridgford Colts Football Club was formed in 1990 with the simple ethos of providing local youngsters with a game of football. From the start our strategy was to provide football for all, not just the more able players. We were one of the first junior clubs in the area to regularly field multiple teams at the same age group. Starting off with a couple of boys’ teams the club grew steadily, resulting in us running 18 teams by 2000. In 1994 we signed a lease for the Coronation Ground in West Bridgford. This provided us with a base with a clubhouse, as well as 3 x 11-a-side pitches and a number of different sized small sided pitches, for our 5, 7 and 9 a side teams. In 1996 we started the girls section, which has grown steadily every year, resulting in the Ladies team, West Bridgford Ladies, being formed in 2006. In 2008 the club signed a 25 year lease for our current home, Regatta Way. The Coronation Ground having been purchased by the council to build a new school. The club took the wise decision to install floodlights at the new ground with an eye of the future of the club as we always hoped to run a successful men’s team. 2010 saw the formation of West Bridgford Colts Vets. We formed the senior men’s 1st team, West Bridgford Football Club, in 2011 to provide an exit route for our players. We achieved promotion from Division 2 of the Precision Notts. Senior League, finishing runners-up, as well as reaching the final of the Nottinghamshire Intermediate Cup, losing narrowly after extra time. In the season 2013-14, we again finished runners up in the 1 st Division, to be promoted into the Senior league of the NSL and last season, 2014-15 we were runners up in the senior league, and finalists in the NSL cup, losing out to Wollaton on both occasions. In the 2015-2016 season we finished 3 rd in the NSL premier league which gave the team promotion, and won the Nott’s FA intermediate cup. During 2016, the club installed hard standing around 2 edges of our pitch, a 100 seater spectator stand and enclosing the pitch with fencing as we planned for the future development of the club. The total spend was something just over £50,000. This along with our team’s efforts on the field ensured we achieved promotion into the EMCL. The club has now formed a second men’s team to further the clubs ambitions and to give players the opportunity from move from Youth football into men’s football.

We are a Charter Standard Community Club which this season comprises of 87 teams with over 1100 players and are the biggest junior club in the country. www.westbridgfordfc.com Ellistown And Ibstock Team History

John is an avid football fan with years of history and knowledge, and match days will not be the same without him.
