Smoke Free/Scent Free Dalhousie To protect people from involuntary exposure to tobacco smoke, Dalhousie has declared the University entirely smoke-free. Smoking is not permitted in University buildings, including residences, or on University property. Those wishing to smoke are asked to leave University property to do so. The University has also acted to support its many students and employees who report that they are harmed when they are exposed to scents which are present in many scented personal care products. Scents in perfume, cologne, hair-spray, after-shave, and even some soap and fabric softeners, cause serious illness in people who are sensitive to these chemicals. To provide an environment which supports teaching and learning, Dalhousie asks students, staff, faculty and visitors, to refrain from using such scented products while at the University. The scent reduction program is part of a broader effort to limit, to the fullest extent practical, exposure to all chemicals in our buildings. For more information on the Smoking Policy and the Scent Reduction Program, contact the Safety Office by email at [email protected] or consult the websites www.dal.ca/scentfree and www.dal.ca/smokefree.
