ITEM 2 ATTACHMENT ORDINANCE NO. 2018–368 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CALABASAS ADDING CHAPTER 8.19 TO THE MUNICIPAL CODE TO REGULATE THE USE OF PLASTIC STRAWS, STIRRERS, AND CUTLERY. WHEREAS, the City of Calabasas desires to protect the natural environment, the health of its citizens, the economy; and WHEREAS, discarded plastic cutlery, stirrers, and straws continue to cause environmental harm and are a growing portion of Calabasas’ waste stream. The use of these products has increased over the years and they have been found to pollute our creeks and natural environment. Regulation of these products, therefore, is a necessary contribution to encourage an environmentally friendly waste stream and to protect the environment; and WHEREAS, it is in the interest of the health and welfare of all who live, work, and do business in the City that the amount of non-biodegradable products such as plastic straws, stirrers, and cutlery be reduced. These products end up in existing landfill sites that are quickly reaching capacity or in our creeks and storm drains. Reduction of non-biodegradable wastes entering Calabasas’ waste stream and encouraging the use of recyclable products further these goals; and WHEREAS, replacing plastic straws, stirrers and cutlery with those that are biodegradable will further protect the public’s health, Calabasas’ natural environment, wildlife and creeks; and WHEREAS, the reduction of plastic straws, stirrers, and cutlery originating at retail food establishments within the City is desirable and necessary to reduce the volume of non-biodegradable waste; and WHEREAS, non-biodegradable plastic materials pose a challenge to any financially and environmentally responsible solid waste management program. -

Multivariate analysis shows that the main factors contributing to the variance in locals' experiences of and reactions to tourism development are the endogenous nature associated with the early 'development' phase of the evolution cycle, inhabitant constituency, carrying capacity and tourist nationality. In addition, the protection and conservation of natural and sociocultural resources are revealed as serious concerns of the island's local government. Ramirez, PhD Chapter Focus The key idea of this chapter is that form follows function, and function defines structure. Healthcare organizations vary—not only from country to country, but also within each country—as they address issues of access, quality, and cost that are influenced by social, economic, and political factors. The principles described in this chapter can be applied to ambulatory, acute, chronic, and home care organizations with varying levels of resources and local organizational response capacity. The first section of this chapter examines the key functions of healthcare organizations, with an emphasis on the need for a continuum of patient-centered care. Later sections review the main components of health- care organizations and the ways they interact to achieve desired outcomes and performance improvement. The chapter explores ways of designing, structur- ing, and analyzing organizations to effectively and efficiently manage physical resources and carry out key functions. Due to these significant contributions, it is vital to have sustainable health care services in countries attracting health tourists. Making use of the traditional literature method, this paper presents an overview of health tourism, the importance of healthcare in South Africa, discussing the sustainability issues faced by health care providers and the impact thereof to health tourism. -
Sex Trafficking in the Hospitality Industry
WHITE PAPER May 2019 Human Trafficking in the Hospitality Industry: What Industry Participants Should Do to Protect Themselves and Their Customers In 2016 alone, 4.8 million people were victims of forced sexual exploitation worldwide.1 Nearly 200,000 were trafficked in the Americas, and more than one million were children.2 Moreover, data from the National Human Trafficking Hotline shows that at least 7.7 percent of human trafficking cases reported in 2016 were based in hotels or motels, the most common “location” for the abuse to occur.3 Indeed, hotels and motels are common sites of human trafficking—they not only offer an affordable and easily accessible location for commercial sex acts, but they also provide privacy and anonymity for both traffickers and trafficked individuals. There is no doubt that members of the hospitality industry do not want their legitimate services abused by traf- fickers, nor the safety of their guests jeopardized in this manner. As federal and state authorities, the plaintiffs’ bar, and public sentiment increasingly place pressure on corporations to join global anti-trafficking efforts, the hospitality industry can take proactive compliance-related measures to ensure trafficking does not hap- pen at their hotels. This Jones Day White Paper touches on key aspects of the fast developing law addressing the scourge of human trafficking. More specifically, it sets forth: (i) the laws governing the hospitality industry’s obligations to detect or eradicate sex trafficking at their establishments; (ii) examples of lawsuits filed against members of the hospitality industry; and (iii) suggestions for members of the hospitality industry to best protect their cus- tomers and position themselves in this climate of heightened obligations. -
