Sarker Department of Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics, Faculty of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Babugonj Campus, Barisal-8210, Bangladesh. ABSTRACT A study was aimed to determine the prevalence of sub-clinical mastitis and also determine the other risk factors that intensify this condition. Prescribed questionnaire was used to take baseline information of the animals and farms and California mastitis test kit was used to determine the SCM in lactating cow at farm level. It appears from this study that an overall prevalence of SCM was 51.56% in milking cows at Banaripara Upazilla, Barisal. Crossbred cows were significantly affected with SCM than local breed lactating cows. The farm type affect significantly (p<0.05) on the occurrence of this diseases. The prevalence of sub-clinical mastitis in cow was significantly (p<0.05) higher in 3 rd (80%) parity compared to 1st (38.09%) and 2rd (45.83%) parity as well as non pregnant cows (55.55%) are more prone to infection than pregnant cow (46.43%). The farm floor condition and aged cows don’t have any effect on SCM. Prevalence of sub-clinical mastitis was significantly (p<0.05) higher in high yielding (87.5%) cows than medium (70%) to low (33.33%) yielding cows. A well documented continued research and educational effort is required to increase producer awareness of cost due to mastitis to the dairy enterprise. -

How to Use This Booklet to Assign Water Point Identification Code: Assuming that a contractor or a driller is to install a Shallow Tube Well with No. 6 Pump in BEMARTA union of BAGERHAT SADAR uapzila in BAGERHAR district. This water point will be installed in year 2010 by a GOB-Unicef project. The site of installation is a bazaar. The steps to assign water point code (Figure 1) are as follows: Y Y Y Y R O O W W Z Z T T U U V V N N N Figure 1: Format of Geocode Based Water Point Identification Code Step 1: Write water point year of installation as the first 4 digits indicated by YYYY. For this example, it is 2010. Step 2: Select land use type (R) code from Table R (page no. ). For this example, a bazaar for rural commercial purpose, so it is 4. Step 3: Select water point type of ownership (OO) from Table OO (page no. ) . For this example, it is 05. Step 4: Select water point type (WW) code from Table WW (page no. ). For this example, water point type is Shallow Tube Well with No. 6 Pump. Therefore its code is 01. Step 5: Assign district (ZZ), upazila (TT) and union (UU) GEO Code for water point following the alphabetical index of this booklet. If district name starts with ‘B’, follow ‘AB’ index. The GEO codes are as follows: for BAGERGAT district, ZZ is 1; for BAGERHAR SADAR upazila, TT is 8; and for BEMARTA union, UU is 25. Step 6: Assign 00 to village (VV) code until village GEO code is developed and made available. -

Bangladesh Rice J. 21 (2) : 157-172, 2017 Diversity of Cropping Patterns and Land Use Practices in Faridpur Region A B M Mostafizur1*, M A U Zaman1, S M Shahidullah1 and M Nasim1 ABSTRACT The development of agriculture sector largely depends on the reliable and comprehensive statistics of the existing cropping patterns, cropping intensity and crop diversity of a particular area, which will provide guideline to policy makers, researchers, extensionists and development workers. The study was conducted over all 29 upazilas of Faridpur region during 2015-16 using pre-tested semi-structured questionnaire with a view to document the existing cropping patterns, cropping intensity and crop diversity of this area. From the present study it was observed that about 43.23% net cropped area (NCA) was covered by only jute based cropping patterns on the other hand deep water ecosystem occupied about 36.72% of the regional NCA. The most dominant cropping pattern Boro−Fallow− Fallow occupied about 24.40% of NCA with its distribution over 28 out of 29. The second largest area, 6.94% of NCA, was covered by Boro-B. Aman cropping pattern, which was spread out over 23 upazilas. In total 141 cropping patterns were identified under this investigation. The highest number of cropping patterns was identified 44 in Faridpur sadar and the lowest was 12 in Kashiani of Gopalganj and Pangsa of Rajbari. The lowest crop diversity index (CDI) was reported 0.448 in Kotalipara followed by 0.606 in Tungipara of Gopalganj. The highest value of CDI was observed 0.981 in Faridpur sadar followed by 0.977 in Madhukhali of Faridpur.
