A Treasure Chest of IWSC medals for Treasury Wine Estates

Treasury Wine Estates’ commitment to quality has earned an impressive 107 medals for wines across its portfolio at the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC), announced this week in London. The awards were amassed by 17 brands from TWE’s global portfolio, from Australia, New Zealand and the US.

Led by , which was named Australian Wine Producer of the Year and also took home a Trophy and Gold medal for the Penfolds Grandfather Rare Tawny NV, the medal haul for wines from the TWE portfolio included 13 Gold and Gold Outstanding medals and 27 Silver Outstanding medals.

Treasury Wine Estates CEO Michael Clarke was thrilled with the result.

“I couldn’t be more pleased. We make incredible wine from diverse regions, and it is fantastic to see so many of our brands recognised at an international level,” said Clarke.

Wolf Blass has an exceptional record at the IWSC, having been named International Winemaker of the Year three times (1992, 2002 and 2013), and this year demonstrated its strength with 23 medals including three Gold Outstanding for the 2001 White Label , 2012 Wolf Blass Grey Label Shiraz and 2005 Wolf Blass Platinum Shiraz.

Rosemount Estate also had a strong showing, garnering 16 medals including three Silver Outstanding accolades for the 2012 Rosemount Nursery Project Graciano Mataro Grenache, 2013 Rosemount Estate GSM and 2012 Rosemount Estate 1888 McLaren Vale Shiraz Cabernet.

Flagship New Zealand winery Matua netted 10 medals, with the 2013 Matua Single recognised with a Silver Outstanding medal, while Wynns Coonawarra Estate won seven medals including Gold for the 2012 Wynns Coonawarra Estate Siding . Lindemans, Devil’s Lair and Saltram also took multiple turns on the winner’s stage, with six medals each.

From the iconic Napa Valley, Beringer was awarded six medals including a Gold Outstanding medal for the 2009 Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and four Silver Outstanding medals.

TWE Chief Winemaker (Australia & New Zealand), Mark Robertson, was pleased and humbled by the medal haul.

“To be recognised with no less than 107 medals at one of the world’s most respected and prestigious wine competitions is an incredible testament to the talent and dedication of our hardworking winemaking and viticulture teams.

“I’m proud of them, and of the exceptional breadth and depth of quality in the wines we produce, wines that reflect not only the skill of the winemaker, but the terroir of the vines.”

The International Wine and Spirit Competition was founded in 1969 and is the premier competition of its kind in the world. It receives entries from nearly 90 countries and boasts the most highly qualified and trained group of

international judges of any wine and spirit competition. All entries are blind tasted in groups divided by variety, region and vintage as necessary. It remains the only international wine competition that puts all wines through chemical analysis as well as judging by a team of senior tasters.
