Due to security reasons, we do not have your password, but we can send you a “forgot login” email that will prompt you to reset your password. Badges can be picked up in the Furman Gallery of the Walter Reade Theater beginning on Monday, September 16, when press screenings begin. With the exception of gala screening dates, badges can also be picked up at the Development table in Alice Tully Hall. Badges admit one person per badge to both press screenings and the Hauser Lounge. The Hauser Lounge will be open when screenings are occurring in Alice Tully Hall. Please note that Hauser Lounge access is based on availability. In addition to potential blackout dates or screenings where we expect a large turnout, and thus a larger number of VIPs wanting access, this could result in the space hitting maximum capacity. We ask that you please be aware of this and plan accordingly. The official Hauser Lounge schedule will be sent out at the start of the festival. If you have guests that will be attending screenings with you and would like to bring them to the lounge, please notify the Patron Desk as soon as possible, and, based upon availability, we may be able to accommodate them. PRESS SCREENINGS Press screenings are an exciting benefit for Patrons at the Benefactor level and above. These exclusive screenings give our most generous supporters the opportunity to see the film ahead of some of our Patrons, Members, and certainly the general public. That said, there are a few things to note about our process for press screenings: 3 ● Press screenings will begin on Monday, September 16, in the Walter Reade Theater. We will send you a separate email with the schedule when it is ready. ● Patrons need to check-in at the Press & Industry/Development Desk located in the Furman Gallery before entering the theater. This way, you are accounted for and you’re able to pick up your festival badge(s). Please be diligent about wearing your badge. This will allow you to bypass the check-in process the members of the press need to abide by. ● If you plan on staying for several screenings during the day, you are more than welcome to stay in the theater between screenings. If you do need to leave the theater between screenings, you may leave your personal belongings in your seat, but upon re-entry, our theater staff ask you to wait in line to manage the flow of foot traffic. ● During the press conference portion of the press screenings, please allow members of the press to ask their questions first. ● Patrons are not allowed to use professional-grade photography while sitting in press screenings. However, you are welcome to use your phone camera. The use of professional cameras without permission may result in ejection from the theater. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q: Is there a limit to how many tickets Members/Patrons/Passholders can purchase at one time? A: YES, any individual ordering tickets during the pre-sale or general public sale period is limited to two (2) per screening. If you would like to purchase a third or fourth ticket to a particular screening, you may purchase two (2) tickets during your pre-sale period and then an additional two (2) during the general public sale period. We are unable to make any exceptions to this policy as we make the best effort to accommodate as many people as possible. Q: How does Print-at-Home ticketing work? A: Select the delivery method of Print-at-Home and an email with your tickets will arrive within 48 hours. You can either print your tickets and bring them with you or show them on your 4 phone at the theater and have the barcode scanned. If you do not receive the ticket email within 48 hours, please contact us at [email protected]. If you would like to hold tickets at the box office, there is a $10 per order fee. Q: Can I refund tickets if I am not able to make the screening? A: There are no refunds on New York Film Festival ticket purchases. To donate ticket(s) you are unable to use, please email [email protected] or visit the Alice Tully Hall box office in person. To request a letter for tax deduction purposes, please utilize the form in the reply email that you will receive after emailing [email protected]. Q: When will I know what seats I’m getting when I order online? A: Your seat locations will be included with the confirmation email you receive after placing your order online. Seats will be determined by the best available seat at the time of the purchase. If you have a seating preference, tickets must either be purchased in-person at the Alice Tully Hall box office or via the Patron Desk. Seats in Alice Tully Hall are reserved, but all other Film at Lincoln Center venues are general admission. Q: What if I have an ADA need and require accessible seating? A: All of our theaters are accessible for our guests using wheelchairs. If you have another medical need, please let us know and we will do our very best to accommodate your needs. Please submit your ticket order first and then email [email protected] for more information on accommodation. Q: What if I don’t like my seats? A: In the event, you don’t like your seats, you can visit the Patron Desk in the lobby of Alice Tully Hall on the day of the screening during the festival to inquire about exchanging tickets.

  • Ruth Prawer Jhabvala's Adapted Screenplays
Absorbing the Worlds of Others: Ruth Prawer Jhabvala’s Adapted Screenplays By Laura Fryer Submitted in fulfilment of the requirements of a PhD degree at De Montfort University, Leicester. Funded by Midlands 3 Cities and the Arts and Humanities Research Council. June 2020 i Abstract Despite being a prolific and well-decorated adapter and screenwriter, the screenplays of Ruth Prawer Jhabvala are largely overlooked in adaptation studies. This is likely, in part, because her life and career are characterised by the paradox of being an outsider on the inside: whether that be as a European writing in and about India, as a novelist in film or as a woman in industry. The aims of this thesis are threefold: to explore the reasons behind her neglect in criticism, to uncover her contributions to the film adaptations she worked on and to draw together the fields of screenwriting and adaptation studies. Surveying both existing academic studies in film history, screenwriting and adaptation in Chapter 1 -- as well as publicity materials in Chapter 2 -- reveals that screenwriting in general is on the periphery of considerations of film authorship. In Chapter 2, I employ Sandra Gilbert’s and Susan Gubar’s notions of ‘the madwoman in the attic’ and ‘the angel in the house’ to portrayals of screenwriters, arguing that Jhabvala purposely cultivates an impression of herself as the latter -- a submissive screenwriter, of no threat to patriarchal or directorial power -- to protect herself from any negative attention as the former. However, the archival materials examined in Chapter 3 which include screenplay drafts, reveal her to have made significant contributions to problem-solving, characterisation and tone.
