Wos2009brochure.Pdf ============================================================ International Week of Solidarity Against the Apartheid Walls in Palestine & the Siege of Gaza ============================================================ The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign will be taking part in this year's International Week of Solidarity called by the Palestinian Grassroots Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign (www.stopthewall.org). They have called on international activists to launch a week of global mobilisation against the walls of apartheid in Palestine from November 9th to 16th 2009. The IPSC intend to use this oppor- tunity to highlight the necessity of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, with specific reference to the ongoing role of Irish construction company CRH (formerly Cement Roadstone Holdings) in the building of the Apartheid Wall and illegal colonial settlements in the West Bank. In addition, we will also be highlighting the ongoing brutal medieval-style siege of Gaza and the devastating aftermath of Israel's winter offensive on the tiny coastal strip which left over 1,400 Palestinians dead and thousands wounded and homeless. Our aim is to promote as many different voices showing solidarity with the Palestinian people as possible, and to raise awareness among mainstream Irish civil society of Israel's apartheid policies, the ongoing plight of Palestinians, and their heroic struggle to resist ethnic cleansing. As part of this week we have organised an island-wide itinerary of events including film screen- ings, public meetings, fundraisers and a National Demonstration in Dublin on 14th November. What's on during the Week of Solidarity? National Demonstration on Saturday 14th November in Dublin On Saturday 14th November the IPSC will hold a National Rally Against Apartheid in Palestine & The Siege of Gaza. We are asking people to assemble at 2pm at the Spire on O'Connell Street and to bring banners, placards etc. The rally will be followed by at 4pm by a public meeting in The Teachers' Club, Parnell Square, Dublin 1. Horton Doctor of Philosophy in Education and the Designated Emphasis in Critical Theory University of California, Berkeley Professor Na’ilah Nasir, Chair This dissertation is an intervention into Critical Whiteness Studies, an ‘additional movement’ to Ethnic Studies and Critical Race Theory. It systematically analyzes key contradictions in working against racism from a white subject positions under post-Civil Rights Movement liberal color-blind white hegemony and "Black Power" counter-hegemony through a critical assessment of two major competing projects in theory and practice: white anti-racism [Part 1] and New Abolitionism [Part 2]. I argue that while white anti-racism is eminently practical, its efforts to hegemonically rearticulate white are overly optimistic, tend toward renaturalizing whiteness, and are problematically dependent on collaboration with people of color. I further argue that while New Abolitionism has popularized and advanced an alternative approach to whiteness which understands whiteness as ‘nothing but oppressive and false’ and seeks to ‘abolish the white race’, its ultimately class-centered conceptualization of race and idealization of militant nonconformity has failed to realize effective practice.

EUROPE AND THE VANISHING TWO-STATE SOLUTION Nick Witney ABOUT ECFR The European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) is the first pan-European think-tank. Launched in October 2007, its objective is to conduct research and promote informed debate across Europe on the development of coherent, effective and values-based European foreign policy. ECFR has developed a strategy with three distinctive elements that define its activities: •A pan-European Council. ECFR has brought together a distinguished Council of over two hundred Members – politicians, decision makers, thinkers and business people from the EU’s member states and candidate countries – which meets once a year as a full body. Through geographical and thematic task forces, members provide ECFR staff with advice and feedback on policy ideas and help with ECFR’s activities within their own countries. The Council is chaired by Martti Ahtisaari, Joschka Fischer and Mabel van Oranje. • A physical presence in the main EU member states. ECFR, uniquely among European think-tanks, has offices in Berlin, London, Madrid, Paris, Rome, Sofia and Warsaw. In the future ECFR plans to open an office in Brussels. Our offices are platforms for research, debate, advocacy and communications. • A distinctive research and policy development process. ECFR has brought together a team of distinguished researchers and practitioners from all over Europe to advance its objectives through innovative projects with a pan-European focus. ECFR’s activities include primary research, publication of policy reports, private meetings and public debates, ‘friends of ECFR’ gatherings in EU capitals and outreach to strategic media outlets. • Holocaust Revisionism
Holocaust Revisionism by Mark R. Elsis This article is dedicated to everyone before me who has been ostracized, vilified, reticulated, set up, threatened, lost their jobs, bankrupted, beaten up, fire bombed, imprisoned and killed for standing up and telling the truth on this historical subject. This is also dedicated to a true humanitarian for the people of Palestine who was savagely beaten and hung by the cowardly agents of the Mossad. Vittorio Arrigoni (February 4, 1975 - April 15, 2011) Holocaust Revisionism has two main parts. The first is an overview of information to help explain whom the Jews are and the death and carnage that they have inflicted on the Gentiles throughout history. The second part consists of 50 in-depth sections of evidence dealing with and repudiating every major facet of the Jewish "Holocaust " myth. History Of The Jews 50 Sections Of Evidence "You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies." Jesus Christ (assassinated after calling the Jews money changers) Speaking to the Jews in the Gospel of St. John, 8:44 I well know that this is the third rail of all third rail topics to discuss or write about, so before anyone takes this piece the wrong way, please fully hear me out. Thank you very much for reading this article and for keeping an open mind on this most taboo issue.

  • The Discursive Representation of Social Groups Through Lexical
Hanan Mohamed Ahmed Sharaf Eldin The Discursive Representation of Social Groups through Lexical Choices in Headlines: A Critical Discourse Analysis of Western and Arab Online Reporting on Gaza War Hanan Mohamed Ahmed Sharaf Eldin Abstract This study offers a critical analysis of the representation of Israelis and Palestinians in headlines of the selected articles from Cable News Network (CNN), New York Times (NYT), Al-Ahram Weekly Online and Al Jazeera English online (AJE) coverage of the 2008 War on Gaza (Appendix 1). This analysis examines the way language is used to represent social actors involved in this conflict, and attempts to reveal the way lexical choices are politically and ideologically employed to affect the ideological stance of the reader. Headline analysis will be guided by Fairclough’s (2003) three – dimensional Critical Discourse analysis (CDA) framework, and van Leeuwen’s (2008) Social Actor Approach. In order to have a better understanding of media manipulation of its readers, certain aspects of the headline need to be addressed by trying to answer some questions such as: Which words are chosen to appear in the headline and what is the purpose of such choices? How are social actors represented through lexical choices? This analysis aims to compare the representation of Israeli and Palestinian actors in selected headlines of the four websites under study to show how political and ideological orientations of media organizations are reflected in discourse and the ideological construction of social actors. Key words: CDA, headline, identity, ideology, lexical choices. 1. Introduction On the 27th of December 2008 a new cycle of the Israeli- Palestinian conflict irrupted with Israeli air attacks followed by a massive ground offensive against Gaza, under the pretext that Israel is defending itself against Hamas rocket attacks.

Niwano Peace Foundation Commemorative address on receiving 20th Niwano Peace Prize Thursday 8th May 2003 Iraq, War and Peace Dr Priscilla Elworthy, director, Oxford Research Group I am deeply honoured by this award. I accept it in the name of those risking their lives for peace as the world reels from a terrible war. Although I would prefer to devote all my time to discussing some of the great current issues of peace, it is essential first to ask what we can learn from the Iraq crisis. We can learn some heartening things that I’ll come to later, but first I want to outline four hard issues that need attention, wisdom and action now. 1. Alternative courses of action were not exhausted before the war began. The leadership in the US and UK were not willing to look seriously at alternatives to military intervention in Iraq. As just one example, five American church leaders put to Tony Blair and George Bush a ‘third way’ between war and inaction. The plan included the pursuit of coercive disarmament with intensified inspections backed by a UN mandated multi-national force; the indictment of Saddam Hussein for his crimes against humanity; immediate massive humanitarian efforts enforced through the UN and NGOs for the Iraqi people; and commitment to implementing the ‘roadmap’ to peace in the Middle East, with a clear timetable guaranteeing a Palestinian state and a secure Israel by 2005. I went to Baghdad in January of this year, talked to cabinet ministers, came back with an outline of a possible way out of the crisis, discussed this with insiders in Washington and London, and put forward a detailed proposal1.

  • Twice Refugees.Indd
Twice a Refugee Friday Syria’s Stateless Palestinians 14 October 2016 14:00 – 21:00 In 1948, Syria received one hundred thousand Palestinian refugees denied their right to return to their homes and lands in Palestine – a right asserted by UN Ge- Workshop and in English neral Assembly Resolution 194. Over the subsequent decades, Syria facilitated Discussion their integration into the country. On the eve of the Syrian war, the community of Palestinian refugees in Syria was half a million strong. It is estimated that at least one in every five Palestinians has fled the country already, with the over- whelming majority arriving in Europe as refugees yet again. What can the Palestinians’ statelessness and repeated devastation of their com- munities tell us about human rights law and related international legal regimes that regulate the protection of refugees and displaced persons? When do refugees become recognized as refugees, and when does their status afford them protec- tion? Under what circumstances are Palestinian rights, especially the right of re- turn, recognized and supported, what enabled Israel to ignore their claims, and what impact will the continued displacement of communities have on the fight for the Palestinian cause? The participants will bring their unique expertise and diverse disciplinary back- ground to discuss the current displacements of Palestinian refugees. The work- shop and discussion mark the recent publication of Palestinians in Syria: Nakba Memories of Shattered Communities by former ICI Fellow Anaheed Al-Hardan. An ICI Berlin event in cooperation with the American University of Beirut, the Center for Metropolitan Studies, and with generous support of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation.
