Partnering with top publishers and studios like Deep Silver, Tobii is providing gamers greater immersion by making eye tracking more accessible. These PC games will be available June 12th on Tobii’s Game Hub, software that houses all eye tracking enabled games. These new titles continue to further Tobii’s goal of implementing eye tracking in more than 100 games by the end of 2017. “Tobii empowers game studios by giving developers an additional method of game control, the gaze of the gamer, that is more natural and can offer a further immersive experience for their gamers,” said Oscar Werner, President of Tobii Tech. “It is our goal to continue driving widespread adoption of eye tracking in games and offer both gamers and developers the opportunity to explore the benefits of this technology.” Eye tracking technology integration in PC gaming is building more momentum than ever before, and with this bundle of integrated games, Tobii’s newest eye tracking titles span across a variety of genres that include: • Agents of Mayhem (Deep Silver) • The Forest (Endnight Games) • Unturned (Smartly Dressed Games) • Creativerse (Playful, Inc.) • Thea: The Awakening (MuHa Games) • Event[0] (Ocelot Society) • Slime Rancher (Monomi Park) • Distance (Refract Studios) • Clustertruck (Landfall Games AB) • Salt (Lavaboots Studios) • GunFleet (Areo Gaming) • Valley (Blue Isle Studios) • Through the Woods (Antagonist) • Dungeons 2 (Kalypso Media Group GmbH) • 7 Days to Die (The Fun Pimps Entertainment LLC) These titles are supported by a diverse range of gaming devices, suiting a wide variety of gamer preferences, including: gaming notebooks: Alienware 17, Acer Predator 21X, Acer Aspire V17 Nitro and MSI GT72; monitors: Acer Predator Z301CT, XB271HUT and X27; peripherals: the Tobii Eye Tracker 4C. Eye Tracking Features in Deep Silver’s Agents of Mayhem In Agents of Mayhem (available August 15 in the US / August 18 in all other territories), eye tracking creates a fast-paced gaming experience with features that effortlessly enhance gameplay and create a more real-life experience. Extended view allows players to rotate the in-game camera using eye and head tracking, allowing characters to quickly glance over their shoulders. With the addition of Tobii AB (publ) Box 743 S-182 17 Danderyd Sweden phone: +46 8 663 69 90 fax: +46 8 30 14 00 www.tobii.com Awareness, the character’s head moves in the same direction as the players and makes the environment aware of where the player is looking. Clean UI and Dynamic Light remove UI elements when not in use and make the brightness of the game adapt to different light environments. With Aim at Gaze, it is possible for players to aim using their eyes, as in real-life, by looking directly at their targets. Alienware 17 owners can expect advanced AlienFX lighting features associated with the gameplay to bring the game to life. “Using Tobii eye tracking in Agents of Mayhem feels completely natural and makes the whole game experience more seamless” said Eric Arnold, Project Technical Director at Deep Silver Volition. “The way that all of the features interact in a consistent, intuitive way really makes it shine.” Tobii will showcase Agents of Mayhem and other eye-tracking demos next week at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Alienware booth: South Hall #3023, in Los Angeles, CA from June 13-15. All source material is clearly acknowledged as and when it occurs in the references, as well as in the list of works cited. Luxembourg, 4th November 2017 2 Gilles Glod professeur-candidat au Lycée Technique de Bonnevoie Gamification: using game design and game elements in the EFL classroom Bonnevoie, 2017 3 Abstract Research objectives This thesis discusses the ways in which one of the basic human instincts – the urge to play – can be used in an EFL classroom to improve learners’ motivation, social skills and willingness to engage in language learning. My thesis focuses on three major aspects. First, in my lessons, I have implemented games as well as features that often form the core of games, such as rules of play, experience points, achievements, and the levelling up and customization of an avatar. The learners see their progress mirrored within the paradigm of role-playing games: their activities in the classroom inform the de- velopment of their in-game avatars and unlock real-life abilities and rewards. Second, I analyse which games and aspects of gamification are conducive to the creation of a ludic space. While the use of tablets is not the core focus of this thesis, I have worked with pedagogical and language-learning games designed for tablets as well as classroom games designed to use tablets as one of their central features.

Frank G. Bosman and Archibald L. H. M. van Wieringen Reading The Book of Joseph A Communication-Oriented Analysis of Far Cry 5 Abstract In the game Far Cry 5, a book called The Book of Joseph plays an important role. It is the confession, autobiography and sermon compilation of Joseph Seed, the leader of the fundamentalist, Christian-inspired violent Doomsday cult called “Project at Eden’s Gate”. In the game, the player is tasked to defeat Seed’s grip on – fictional – Hope Coun- ty, Montana (USA). The Book of Joseph is not only found in the game, where its content is kept hidden from the player, but is also featured in a live-action trailer, called The Baptism. Most importantly, Joseph Seed’s book has also been published as a physical object and was distributed to the first2 ,000 buyers of the Mondo edition of the game. In this article, the authors argue that the communicative function of The Book of Joseph differs significantly from one medial object to the next (game, trailer, book), influenced by the intertextual and intermedial relationships between those medial objects and by their exclusive characteristics. Using a communication-oriented method of text analy- sis, the authors investigate the various communicative processes within the different “texts”, in order to establish the narrative loci of the book’s materiality. Keywords Far Cry 5, The Book of Joseph, Communication-Oriented Method, Intertextuality, Cult, Intermediality, Materiality Biographies Frank G. Bosman is a theologian of culture and a senior researcher at the Tilburg School of Catholic Theology, Tilburg University, the Netherlands.

  • Normalizing Monstrous Bodies Through Zombie Media
Your Friendly Neighbourhood Zombie: Normalizing Monstrous Bodies Through Zombie Media by Jessica Wind A thesis submitted to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in Communication Carleton University Ottawa, Ontario © 2016 Jess Wind Abstract Our deepest social fears and anxieties are often communicated through the zombie, but these readings aren’t reflected in contemporary zombie media. Increasingly, we are producing a less scary, less threatening zombie — one that is simply struggling to navigate a society in which it doesn’t fit. I begin to rectify the gap between zombie scholarship and contemporary zombie media by mapping the zombie’s shift from “outbreak narratives” to normalized monsters. If the zombie no longer articulates social fears and anxieties, what purpose does it serve? Through the close examination of these “normalized” zombie media, I read the zombie as possessing a non- normative body whose lived experiences reveal and reflect tensions of identity construction — a process that is muddy, in motion, and never easy. We may be done with the uncontrollable horde, but we’re far from done with the zombie and its connection to us and society. !ii Acknowledgements I would like to start by thanking Sheryl Hamilton for going on this wild zombie-filled journey with me. You guided me as I worked through questions and gained confidence in my project. Without your endless support, thorough feedback, and shared passion for zombies it wouldn’t have been nearly as successful. Thank you for your honesty, deadlines, and coffee. I would also like to thank Irena Knezevic for being so willing and excited to read this many pages about zombies.

INVESTGAME Nov 16 — Nov 22, 2020 Weekly News Digest #47 Hi everyone, Last week we decided to create the archive of the weekly newsletter for your convenience — click here to access it. Roblox to go public on the New York Stock Exchange CAbased video game platform Roblox has filed its S1 registration documents targeting an IPO on NYSE before the end of this year. Roblox has neither disclosed the sum it’s planning to raise, nor the valuation of the company. Founded in 2004, Roblox Corporation has raised $335.9m investments over the course of 8 rounds with the most recent Series G round closed in Feb 2020 — raising $150m at a $4B postmoney valuation. Just eight months later in Oct 2020, Roblox’s rumored potential IPO valuation was said to be $8B. Such an impressive valuation enhancement could be explained by the strong demand for entertainment content due to COVID19 and shelterinplace orders (Roblox’s DAUs increased by 90% from 19.1m in Q4’19 to 36.2m DAU in Q3’20). The company’s financial results over the last twelve months ending 30 Sep 2020 are: > $1,477m Bookings vs. $727m Revenue — Roblox gradually recognizes revenue over the average lifetime of a paying user; > ($245m) Loss from operations vs. +$301m Free cash flow. Roblox is an operationally profitable business (taking into account bookings numbers), and we consider the rumored $8B as a probable valuation at IPO. The valuation multiples in such case would be 5.4x Bookings, 11.0x Revenue, and 27x Free cash flow.
