Apologies Apologies were as indicated above. 2. Chairperson’s Business 2.1 Post Primary Transfer The Chairperson advised Members of recent press reports indicating that a number of post-primary schools (which make use of academic selection to determine some or all of their enrolment) have elected to set aside the unregulated post-primary transfer tests for 2020. The Chairperson reminded Members that the Committee had written to the Department suggesting that post- primary transfer guidance covering the present circumstances should be issued to schools urgently. 2.2 Chairpersons’ Liaison Group update The Chairperson advised Members that the Chairpersons’ Liaison Group had indicated that Committee meeting length and frequency was becoming excessive. Consequently, the Chairperson suggested that Members should restrict their questioning to 4-5 minutes each per oral briefing for this week. 3. Draft Minutes Agreed: The Committee agreed the minutes of its meetings held on 27 May 2020. 4. Matters Arising There were no matters arising. 5. Examinations Covid Concerns – Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) – Oral Briefing The Committee noted a briefing paper from ASCL and correspondence from the National Association of Head Teachers (NI).

June 2003 -Wor Bro Rev Ivan Dinsmore conducted their 1st Church Service in The Church Of Ireland Centre, Newbuildings during the service they dedicated new Long Sashes. The City of Londonderry No.1 District kindly donated the Old Banner of Victoria LOL No.1087 which handed in there Warrant in September 2002; Newbuildings Victoria LOL No.1087 proudly carried this banner around Newbuildings for the 1st time to and from their Church Service lead by The Churchill Flute Band. July 2003 -Wor Bro John Keys (Sen) lead the Lodge to their first 12th Celebrations, which started off with the morning parades in Culmore and Londonderry before processing to the main celebrations in Limavady. The Lodge fell in behind No.1 District and The Churchill Flute Band. The day finished off with the evening parades in Londonderry and Newbuildings.

Agreed: The Committee agreed to invite the Integrated Education Fund and the Ulster University UNESCO Centre to brief on Integration/mixing in schools and the CRE respectively, in the New Year. 2.3 Suspension / Expulsion (Exclusion) The Chairperson reminded Members of the findings of the 2004 report into suspension and expulsion (exclusion) in schools. The Chairperson noted that the report found that some schools did not have an expulsion (exclusion) scheme or viewed pre-expulsion consultations as a formality and that there was inconsistency in the application of suspension and expulsion (exclusion) arrangements in different sectors and reported use of delaying tactics by schools as a way of avoiding offering a place to an expelled (excluded) pupil.

The range of initiatives access over 170 projects, which includes a mix of regular commissioning work and innovative development work testing new ideas. Over 250,000 individuals and groups were direct beneficiaries of the programmes; however, previous evaluations have demonstrated that the cascade effect of these initiatives was at least threefold. One of the major challenges this year was addressing a fluent financial environment; in one hand having to yield baseline funding for efficiencies while on the other bidding for in-year non-recurrent funding from new funding earmarked under the Programme for Government for Public Health.

Thanks, and thanks for the opportunity to brief you so early in the term. I am very excited to be the first Infrastructure Minister, so it is good to engage with you straight off the bat. I will take the opportunity to set out what I see as the role of my Department and my ambitions going forward. As Minister for Infrastructure, I will focus on three levels of activity. First, to place a strategic focus on the infrastructure needs of the North for the next 20 to 30 years; in other words, to recognise that what we do today sets parameters for the next generation and therefore getting it right matters hugely.
