Graduate Welcome Week Programs Graduate Student Life at the Student Resource Center offers several workshops specifically for graduate students in addition to your school orientation programs. 11:00 am – 12:00 pm: Students in the Military 101, Kimmel, Room 909 This workshop is designed to help Students in the Military and Veterans navigate their needs and concerns and maximize their unique set of strengths, skills and life experiences as they develop and translate their interests and talents into the academic setting. You will also have the opportunity to enroll in free VA healthcare, and meet representatives who work with Veterans at NYU!

*8:00 pm & 10:00 pm: Hypnosis of Michael C. Anthony, Skirball Center for the Performing Arts Don’t miss this Welcome Week tradition with the nationally acclaimed hypnotist, Michael C. Anthony. You’ll be amazed as he brings his special blend of hypnosis and mentalism to NYU, making this evening unforgettable. Sponsored by the Student Resource Center, the Jack H. Skirball Center for Performing Arts, and the NYU Bookstore.

6:30 pm – 10:00 pm: NYC Harbor Dinner Cruise for Graduate Students, Chelsea Piers, Pier 62 Cruise along the harbor sailing past the enchanting world-famous skyline on one of Spirit Cruises yachts. There will be food, dancing and cash bars for your entertainment!

Tickets are available online at https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/pe.c/9936031 Monday, August 18, 2014 and at the box office starting Tuesday. The cost per ticket will be $30 per person available at NYU Ticket Central (Kimmel Center 60 Washington Square South, Room 206) and includes a dinner buffet, dj and cash bar. NYU ID required to board and government ID required to drink. Limit of one guest. Cruise is 3 hours. Boarding begins at 6:30 pm. Cruise departs at 7:00 pm.

*8:00 pm – 10:00 pm: Comedy Night at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts featuring Hari Kondabolu and Michelle Buteau This year's Comedy Night features two hilarious comedians for a night full of laughter. Born and raised in , NY, Hari Kondabolu was discovered by the HBO Comedy Festival in 2007 while doing comedy at night and working as an immigrant rights organizer in Seattle, Washington. Since then Kondabolu has appeared on ’s New York Stand-Up Show on , Jimmy Kimmel Live and Comedy Central’s . Kondabolu speaks the truth to power with confrontational and personal material. Opening the show will be the accomplished Michelle Buteau currently can be seen on VH-1’s Best Week Ever and The Jenny McCarthy Show and this fall, she’ll be starring on the new Fox show, Enlisted. 12:00pm – 1:30pm: Money Management for Grads: Tackling Student Loans and Key Steps to Financial Success, Kimmel, Room 405/406 Have you dreamed of a life free from financial worry? We will guide you through steps designed to improve your budget, improve your credit and reach your financial goals. Topics will include credit reports, debt management, money management, investing and retirement. There will be a focus on managing student loan debt including income driven payment plans and loan forgiveness.

1:00 pm – 3:00 pm: Neighborhood Walking Tour, Office of Residential Life and Housing Services, 2 Washington Square Village, #1N is one of the most diverse places in the world. By getting out and about in Manhattan you will have the opportunity to experience the diversity of culture, food, music, and people that make the Big Apple such a great place. All tours will stop at one of the famous dessert establishments in NYC where you will be able to purchase a taste of NYC. 9:00 am – 10:30 am: Grad Student Welcome Reception at the Wasserman Center, 133 East 13th Street, 2nd Floor, Presentation Room A This event will be a great opportunity for new graduate students to meet and network with each other. Participants will also learn about the many programs, resources, and services that the Wasserman Center for Career Development offers for graduate students. Breakfast will be served.

11:00 am – 12:00 pm: Grad Prof Talk, Kimmel, Room 803 Professors are people too...but all too often students are either hesitant to approach them, or make some missteps in effectively communicating with professors. This faculty panel will provide some basics on how to effectively meet with professors as a graduate student. Join us to hear firsthand faculty insights on the best methods of communicating with your professors and instructors throughout graduate school. Join graduate students out at Amity Hall, West 3rd Commons, the Half Pint, Negril and Kopi Kopi and check out the numerous venues where we host our socials throughout the year. We will provide hors d’oeuvres and NYU drink specials across the board. Come on out!

5:30 pm – 7:00 pm: Students in the Military Welcome Reception, NYU SCPS Building, 7 E. 12th St., Room 321 Are you an NYU student who is also a veteran? Come and meet other students as well as gain resources to help you understand the services offered to you as a veteran. Alumni and faculty will also be there to help you create connections across campus. The program will begin with Rebecca Andersen, Director of the Student Veterans Advantage Program at SCPS, who will discuss her experience as a Marine who transitioned into higher education and works to help student veterans succeed. Light food and non-alcoholic beverages will be served.
