St. Irenaeus Parish, Park Forest, Illinois September 8, 2019 Twenty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Anointing of the Sick is the sacrament that is received by those who are ill or suffering in ANY form. It is both a liturgical and a communal celebration that serves as “a source of strength amid pain and weakness, hope amid despair, and a joyful encounter for the entire community (Christifedeles Laici).” Pope John Paul II states that “the one who is ill can also be a minister to others. By uniting their suffering to Christ, those who are sick can be signs of faith and witnesses of Christ’s Resurrection to the entire Church community.” The St. Irenaeus Parish Community will celebrate this sacrament at our three masses (5pm on Saturday, 8:30am and 10:30am on Sunday) during the weekend of September 28th and 29th, 2019. We are inviting all of those who sick or suffering in mind, body and spirit to join us at any of these liturgies to receive a special anointing and blessing. We hope that you will join us at St. Irenaeus to celebrate this sacrament that enables the Church to carry out Jesus’ mission of compassion and healing for the sick, and build up the faith of the parish community. The Reunion Committee is very excited and hope we will see you all there. It’s been a lot of fun contacting and being contacted by old classmates and getting to know people from other classes. So many memories!!! The wonderful quilting ladies from St. Irenaeus have even made us a quilt that will be auctioned off at the reunion. Thank you, ladies! For your convenience, a registration form can be found on the back table of church. You can still register online if you prefer. The website is www.stirenaeuschurch.com/reunion. Even if you can’t come, check out the pictures on the website – kids today can’t believe the class sizes! If you have any pictures from way back when hidden away, now’s the time to bring them out! Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I hope that you had a Fantastic summer. Fall will be approaching soon and with that the beginning of our PADS season which runs the 1st Thursday in October thru the last Thursday in April. PADS ( Public Action to Deliver Shelter) or SSPADS is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization established in 1990 as a response to the growing number of individuals and families becoming homeless in Chicago's south suburbs. St. Irenaeus is one of their sites and has been for Decades. We are so appreciative of all of the help we received last year from our St. Irenaeus Church Family and other Faith Communities. We are especially thankful for those of you who physically donated your time and/or brought food, contributed money, washed laundry or contributed personal items. Without your help there would not have been a PADS. We are humbly asking for your help again for this upcoming PADS season. I have a list of those who told me that they would be returning but I need more volunteers. Specifically, I need a A.M. and a P.M. Team Leader for the 1st Thursdays of the month. I also need a person to work the 2nd shift for that same Thursday. You only have to commit to a few hours one day out of the month for 7 months and time really goes by quickly. Of course, whatever time you can be available will be appreciated. On Tuesday, Sept. 10th at 1:00p.m., we will be washing the "pads" in preparation for the new season. ANYONE available to help would be a FANTASTIC aide. I can be reached at (708) 248-6649. God Bless!
