EIU PARENTS DAY SET FOR NOVEMBER 7

CHARLESTON, IL--A variety of activities, including a concert by Chuck

Berry, will highlight Parents Day activities at Eastern Illinois University

Saturday, Nov. 7.

A free 10 a.m.-noon continental breakfast at the Bookstore Lounge on

the first floor of the Union will open the day. Some EIU administrators

will be available to talk to parents during the breakfast. Pre-ordered box

lunches will be available from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the vending machine lounge

in the Union.

Afternoon activities will begin with the 1:30 football game between

Eastern Illinois and Southern Illinois University. Tickets for the east stands and end zones are still available at $6 for adults, $2 for non-EIU students and 50 cents for EIU students with ID's.

Approximately 1,250 are expected for the Saturday night candlelight dinner to be held in the EIU Union from 4:30-7 p.m.

Tickets are already sold out for the concert to be held at

8 p.m. Saturday night in Lantz Gym.

A Parents Club brunch will be served in the Grand Ballroom Sunday morning from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Tickets are available at $6.95 each.

A native of St. Louis, Berry taught himself guitar playing and songwriting. He is famous for combining boogie woogie and to create swinging rock 'n roll. Some of his hits include "My Ding-a-Ling," his first Gold record, "Johnny B. Goode," and the classic "Maybellene."

Other million-selling albums include "," "Sweet

Little Sixteen," "School Days," and "Reelin' and Rockin'."

Berry, now 61, recently made his first documentary film, "Chuck Berry

Hail! Hail! Rock 'n Roll." Directed by Taylor Hackford, the film gives viewers a backstage look at the entertainer's successes and failures.
