  • Walk 4: the Blue Plaques Trail
Walk 4: The Blue Plaques Trail Walk 4 Addingham Blue Plaques Trail Start & Finish: Addingham Memorial Hall, Main Street, Addingham Distance: 4.4 miles plus 3 miles if including Farfield Meeting House. It can easily be done in sections. Description: Addingham Civic Society and Parish Council have positioned a number of blue plaques on buildings around the village to commemorate notable people or events. This walk passes all the plaques and many other places of interest in the village (see map overleaf). The going is easy, mainly along roads but including some footpaths where good footwear is needed. The Trail Plaque 1: The Women’s Knitting Circle, Memorial Hall The first plaque is at the start point, the Memorial Hall. This commemorates the ladies of the Addingham Knitting Circle. During the war, ladies across the country set up knitting circles, with the reminder that ‘if you can knit – you can do your bit’, and they knitted for the Army, Navy, Air Force & ARP workers. The Women’s Knitting Walk 4: The Blue Plaques Trail TheBluePlaques Trail Walk 4: The Blue Plaques Trail Circle in Addingham (shown above in 1942) was a very committed group and as a result of their efforts over 500 articles were knitted, with every member of His Majesty's forces from Addingham being supplied with a pullover, scarf, balaclava, two or three pairs of socks and gloves/mittens. Even Russians on the Eastern front benefited from their knitting and, at the same time, they were aiming to raise money for a memorial to the men and women of Addingham who had sacrificed so much for their homes and country.

  • Yorkshire Archaeological Research Framework: Resource Assessment
Yorkshire Archaeological Research Framework: resource assessment A report prepared for the Yorkshire Archaeological Research Framework Forum and for English Heritage – project number 2936 RFRA S. Roskams and M. Whyman (Department of Archaeology, University of York) 2005 ABSTRACT This report represents the outcome of research undertaken into the archaeological resources of Yorkshire, using data gathered by SMRs, museums and commercial contractors. It describes the background to the project and its objectives, and the methods used to draw evidence from these diverse sources into a single database. It then proceeds to describe patterning in the data thus collected and collated, first at a general level across the region, then on a chronological basis from the Palaeolithic to Early Modern periods. In each period, the implications of this patterning for archaeological understanding of Yorkshire are drawn out. • Addingham Neighbourhood Plan Forum - Housing Sites Assessment Report
ADDINGHAM NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN HOUSING SITE ASSESSMENTS 1 | P a g e ADDINGHAM NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN HOUSING SITE ASSESSMENTS Addingham Neighbourhood Plan Forum - Housing Sites Assessment Report Context Bradford Council’s Local Plan Core Strategy for the District (adopted July 2017) includes an allocation of 200 new homes for Addingham over the Plan period 2011 - 2030. Addingham Parish Council has decided that the village Neighbourhood Plan will include the allocation of sites for new housing. This requires a thorough assessment of potential housing sites and full consultation with residents of the village. Potential housing sites in Addingham identified by Bradford Council * include sites within the current settlement boundary and areas of open land currently designated (and protected) as Green Belt. However Green Belt sites were not covered by the assessment work, since Neighbourhood Plans are unable to include allocations which would involve alterations to current Green Belt boundaries. The assessments therefore examined all other identified sites, plus any new ones brought forward through the Addingham Neighbourhood Plan Call for Sites, and any other open space within the settlement boundary. The assessments include an estimate of the number of dwellings that could be accommodated on sites deemed to be suitable for development. The sites identified in the assessments as suitable for housing development will form a contribution to the overall dwelling allocation set by Bradford Council. If this process results in a need for further sites, consideration may have to be given to sites in the Green Belt; this work will be undertaken by Bradford Council by means of a formal review of Green Belt boundaries as well as through the Council’s Site Allocations process.
