From the Archives ... God still loves me when I'm grumpy

This time of year can feel quite miserable. Christmas is well past, and summer is nowhere MM near arriving; even Easter eggs are still some way in the future. Bright, crisp winter days may be lovely, but it's more likely to just be grey and raining. If your New Year's Resolution has survived until now, then congratulations - but we all know that you are probably in the minority, and that most of us might be feeling like we have lIGfe- " failed. Motivation and energy can be difficult to . summon. Since you all know that it's the Vicar writing this ; column, then you might now be expecting me to Jr? say something about how 'all this can change if you just let Jesus into your life'. The Christian life, ||||||||||^^^^^^^^^ - a life lived to the praise of God and following the example of Jesus Christ, is indeed a source of great Joy. Good Neighbours update

Newtown and Soberton's Good Neighours Group Using the government mileage allowance as a base had a busy end to 2019 providing local residents we have therefore slightly revised our schedule of with lifts to hospitals all around the area - even suggested donations as follows: including a trip to Winchester Hospital on Christmas Swanmore/Droxford £3.50 Eve. Wickham/Bishops Waltham/ £4.50 The group also helps people of all ages with Q.A. Hospital and Fareham £7.00 transport to GP surgeries, clinics, dentists, opticians Fareham Community Hospital, £10.00 and other medical or therapeutic appointments as Sarisbury Green £12.00 well as to lunch clubs. Spire, Havant St Mary's Hospital, Portsmouth, £13.50 Users of the service are expected to make a Winchester Hospital donation towards fuel and wear and tear on the Hospital, Southampton £18.00 driver's vehicle and also need to pay any parking Spire charges, although the Good Neighbours scheme Romsey Hospital £19.00 has negotiated free parking concessions at many of Basingstoke Hospital £32.50 the local hospitals.

The suggested donation is always well below the Wherever practical, drivers will wait and bring you cost of hiring a taxi but a recent review of the rates - home, but for longer appointments we may need to the first since at least 2012- showed that we had book a second driver to collect you, which will mean underestimated the distance (and cost)to paying a second charge. Southampton General where we have been driving If you find yourself needing transport to a medical more and more people recently. New destinations, appointment ring one of our co-ordinators. Sue such as Romsey and Basingstoke Hospitals and Musselwhite on 01489 877282 or Phil Bergin on Havant Spire are also now occasionally requested. 02392 632551.

Sunday May 31^' 2020

The Rotary Club of Fareham would like to repeat the open gardens event In the village next year to raise funds for Rotary supported projects.

We are once again seeking villagers who would be willing to allow the general public to view their gardens on a Sunday in May! Whether you participated last year or were inspired by those gardens and thought you'd like to be involved, we'd love to hear from you!

We are not looking for immaculately manicured gardens nor do we expect participants to spend hours preparing their gardensfor view!

We are looking for variety. Maybe you have a fantastic view. Perhaps your garden is natural. Do you have a water feature, an orchard or a wild meadow? Is your garden wooded or terraced, a riot of colour, a work of art or plain and simple?

However you describe your garden, we would love to hear from you!

How will it work?

This year the general public will purchase their admission programme from the village hall where we will be serving cream teas. Free transport will be provided to enable them to reach any gardens between the village hall and .They will require their own transport - cars, bikes, motorbikes or feet - to reach other gardens! We will provide them with a map of the village indicating where the participating gardens are located and Rotary roundel signs will be placed outside these gardens. You will need to be present to greet the visitors and show them around your garden but you won't have to provide refreshments or collect any money! If you would like to support this event please register your interest in the first instance by contacting me on:

01489 877282 or 07899 701884 or by email: boblSD0ppvhill.net

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!

MEON VALLEY CARERS GROUP Registered Charity No. 1107865 Promoting a positive way of living with dementia Dementia is a progressive illness that over time, will affect a person's ability to remember and understand every day facts.

As a Carer you will probably have to learn to 'listen' more carefully. Everyone knows that looking after someone 24 hours a day, can be exhausting and at times you feel very isolated.

We are a small Charity based in the Meon Valley area, with an office in Swanmore, so why not come along to one of our get togethers, and you will soon feel and understand that it helps to talk about your worries.

The Meon Valley Carers Group is run by volunteers who are always on hand to sit and have a chat, which is sometimes all it takes to know that you are not alone. Many of our members have made friends after being introduced at one of our meetings.

We meet up regularly for a Pub Lunch on the second Tuesday of each month and then again in the afternoon of the fourth Tuesday of the month for a Group Meeting at the Paterson Centre, where we have various speakers who come along and give a presentation, followed by tea and biscuits.

We are very fortunate to be offered the use of the Swanmore Lions Club mini bus, for those who are unable to drive and need transport to and from their homes, and obviously this can be arranged providing you are living in the area.

So, if you feel this little outing could benefit you as a Carer, why not join us for one of our activities listed below.
