Offered by Hertfordshire-based Newsells Park Stud, the colt (Lot 20) was sold to SackvilleDonald’s Alastair Donald, whose valuation added a crisp £100,000 to the previous Doncaster best price for a yearling which had been achieved on three previous occasions. In 2011 an Oasis Dream colt who became sire Gale Force Ten made £280,000, and that was matched by Galileo Lot 20, the son of Gleneagles who smashed the record price Gold’s sister Choumicha (Paco Boy) in 2015 and, the following at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale when knocked down to year, by last month’s Gr.3 Hackwood Stakes winner Yafta (Dark SackvilleDonald for £380,000. © Sarah Farnsworth Angel). Donald, whose financially robust clients include King Power Racing, has been enjoying a winning run with his sales-ring stand-out horse at this sale and one of the nicest horses I’ve seen at purchases, highlighted by a four-timer on Saturday that included Doncaster in many a year.

The QIPCO Guineas Festival 2021 Featured Image: https://www.flickr.com/photos/113417287@N08 © 2021 TGH Trading Ltd – All Rights Reserved The 2021 Qipco Guinea’s Festival at Newmarket is a weekend of world class turf flat racing over two days, featuring the first two Classic races of the new turf flat season, the 1000 and 2000 Guineas, which form part of the British Champion Series. First run in 1809 the 2000 Guineas, a race ran for 3 year old colts and fillies and named after the amount of Prize Money on offer, was followed 5 years later, in 1814, by the addition of the 1000 Guineas, a race solely for 3 year old fillies. Both races are run on the Newmarket Rowley Mile course on consecutive days. The 2000 Guineas on day 1 is a test of speed for the thoroughbred runners and the prize money on offer for the winner this year amounts to a hefty £212,663, with the race forming the first part of the English Triple Crown which also includes the Epsom Derby and the St Leger. The English Triple Crown has been won by 15 horses over its years (including 3 winners of substitute races at Newmarket during World War I). The most recent and most popular is Nijinsky back in 1970 ridden by the famous Lester Piggott. Steve Mellish explains in the video below why achieving the Triple Crown is such a difficult task. Click to Play the Video © 2021 TGH Trading Ltd – All Rights Reserved The 1000 Guineas for the Fillies returns a winner’s prize equal to that of the Colts and Fillies 2000 Guineas race and forms the first of the three races for the fillies Triple Crown which includes the Oaks and the St Leger.

  • History of the Ormonde
WELCOME TO THE ORMONDE GUESTHOUSE THE ORMONDE GUESTHOUSE HISTORY Former Railway Tavern public house, later renamed as the Ormonde tavern. Late 19th, early 20th century. Two storey, 3 bay semi symmetrical arrangement with projecting terminal end bays, timber framed gables to projecting bays. Slate roof, 1st floor timber framed. Ground floor Ruabon brick with stone dressings to window heads, cheeks and cills, casement windows with leaded transome lights. This building is now the Ormonde Hotel. "Ormonde" (1883–1904) was an English Thoroughbred racehorse, an unbeaten Triple Crown winner, generally considered to be one of the greatest racehorses ever. He also won the Champion Stakes and the Hardwicke Stakes twice. At the time he was often labeled as the 'horse of the century'. Ormonde was trained at Kingsclere by John Porter for the 1st Duke of Westminster. His regular jockeys were Fred Archer (who features on the sign outside the hotel in the correct colours) and Tom Cannon. After retiring from racing he suffered fertility problems, but still sired Orme, who won the Eclipse Stakes twice. It has been suggested that "Ormonde's" sire was the model for "Silver Blaze" in the Sherlock Holmes story of the same name, first published 1892. In the same way, "Colonel Ross" in the story is said to be based on one of the Grosvenors - the first Duke of Westminster. Eaton Stud bred "Ormonde" with Fred Archer up. Fred Archer (1857-86) had 21 Classic winners and was Champion Jockey 13 of his 17 years, before tragically committing suicide in 1886. To keep his weight down for racing he used "Archer's mixture", a powerful laxitive made up by Dr J.

  • BUTTERS FAMILY There Were 4 Brothers Who Attended
BUTTERS FAMILY There were 4 brothers who attended Framlingham between 1888 and 1905 and a couple of them were very prominent racehorse trainers. JOSEPH ARTHUR “FRANK” BUTTERS (1888-95) Frank Butters was Champion Trainer 8 times between 1927 and 1949. In addition to training the winners of 15 Classics in England he also trained Irish Derby winners Turkhan, Nathoo and Hindostan and Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe winner Migoli for the Aga Khan III. Frank Butters was born in Austria, where his father Joseph rode and trained, and became a successful trainer there himself. During the 1914-18 war he was nominally interned, then trained in Italy before being given a 4 year contract as private trainer to the 17th Earl of Derby at Stanley House, Newmarket, becoming leading trainer in his first year there, 1927. When Lord Derby withdrew from racing for economic reasons, Butters leased the Fitzroy Stables in Newmarket as a public trainer. Here he trained for Mr A W Gordon and, later, the Aga Khan III and the 5th Earl of Durham. He considered Bahram to be the best horse he ever trained.
