ENTRE LADRONES ANDA EL AMOR (AVENTURA EN BOMBAY) (They Met in Bombay) País: Estados Unidos Año: 1941 Duración: 92 Min ENTRE LADRONES ANDA EL AMOR (AVENTURA EN BOMBAY) (They Met in Bombay) País: Estados Unidos Año: 1941 Duración: 92 min. Color Dirección: Clarence Brown. Guion: Edwin Justus Mayer, Anita Loos y Leon Gordon basado en un argumento de John Kafka. Fotografía: William Daniels. Música: Herbert Stothart. Dirección artística: Cedric Gibbons. Vestuario: Adrian. Montaje: Blanche Sewell. Intérpretes: Clark Gable, Rosalind Russell, Peter Lorre, Jessie Ralph, Reginald Owen, Matthew Boulton, Edward Ciannelli, Luis Alberni, Rosina Galli, Jay Novello.

  • Clark Gable ~ 27 Films
3 Clark Gable ~ 27 Films William Clark Gable was born on 1 February 1901 in Cadiz, Ohio, to William Henry and Adeline Gable. When he was seven months old, his mother died and his father, an oil-well driller, sent him to live with his maternal aunt and uncle in Pennsylvania, where he stayed until he was two, after which his father fetched him back to Cadiz. At 16, Gable quit school and worked at an Akron, Ohio, tyre factory until, after seeing the play The Bird of Paradise, he decided to become an actor. He toured in stock companies, worked oil fields and sold neckties. In December 1924, he married his acting coach Josephine Dillon, fifteen years his senior. The pair moved to Hollywood so Gable could further his acting career. A number of small silent film and stage roles followed. In April 1930, the marriage ended in divorce. A year later, Gable married Maria Langham, also about seventeen years his senior. While working in the theatre, Gable became a lifelong friend of prominent and influential thespian Lionel Barrymore. Despite several failed screen tests for Barrymore and Darryl Zanuck, in 1930 Gable was signed by MGM. After a small part in The Painted Desert (1931), Joan Crawford asked for him as co-star with her in Dance, Fools, Dance (also 1931). In the same year, the public loved his manhandling of Norma Shearer in A Free Soul. His unshaven lovemaking with Jean Harlow in Red Dust (1932) made him MGM's most important star, after which his acting career flourished.

Working Papers No. 149/10 Economic Effects of Vertical Disintegration: The American Motion Picture Industry, 1945 to 1955 . The Court believed this would promote competitive practices in a hitherto uncompetitive industry. However, these desired benefits were not entirely reached. Instead, by leading the Hollywood studio system to collapse, the Court also distorted the supply- chain for motion pictures. This work utilizes Coasian analyses of transaction costs to show that institutional integration was an efficient structure for the motion picture industry. It explores the motives to integrate and the benefits it garnered. Having laid this groundwork, it then assesses the effects theatre divorcement had on the industry and offers plausible counterfactuals had the studios remained intact after 1948. 1 Introduction There has been much conjecture over the effects that government intervention can have on industry. The case examined here is the intervention of the United States Judiciary on the American motion picture industry in the late 1940s. Since 1890, the year Congress signed the Sherman Antitrust Act into law, the government has served as the self- imposed overseer that assures the proper functioning of competitive markets.

  • Tribute to Anita Loos at the Museum of Modern Art Month-Long Retrospective of Loos Films in Recognition of Screen Writer's Role
^/ The Museum of Modern Art FOR RELEASE: 11 West 53 Street, New York, N.Y. 10019 Tel. 956-6100 Cable: Modernart Thursday, June 13, I969 TRIBUTE TO ANITA LOOS AT THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART MONTH-LONG RETROSPECTIVE OF LOOS FILMS IN RECOGNITION OF SCREEN WRITER'S ROLE A Tribute to Anita Loos, a month-long retrospective of 50 films authored or adapted by the famous first lady of screen writers, will be presented from June Ik to July I3 by the Department of Film of The Museum of Modern Art. The tribute to Miss Loos will focus attention on the contribution of the screen writer to the development of the motion picture medium. One of the most prolific of screen writers, Anita Loos started her career with D.W. Griffith in his Biograph Studio days. She later wrote original scenarios for stars of the dimension of Douglas Fairbanks in the 20's and Jean Harlow in the 30's. She also worked with the highest ranking directors — Edmund Goulding, Sam Wood, William Wellman, George Cukor, Clarence Brown, Mervyn LeRoy and Howard Hawks. Her most popular work "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," written in I925 in her celebrated youth, was remade as a Broadway musical a quarter of a century later. Miss Loos, a life-time non-conformist, came to fame in the 20's, a period not unlike the 60's in respect to the revolutionary changes of style and mores. Born in the Far West, she was a symbol of the flapper age, and knew Hollywood in its halcyon days.
