I’m honoured to introduce to you and through you to Title: Monday, November 5, 2018 1:30 p.m. members of the Assembly distinguished guests from the Loyal 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2018 Edmonton Regiment. When the First World War broke out, in August 1914, the 101st Regiment, Edmonton Fusiliers, was charged [The Speaker in the chair] with recruiting and forming several battalions for the Canadian Expeditionary Force. The 49th Battalion, now known as the Loyal head: Prayers Edmonton Regiment, was the only battalion that was to remain a fighting unit. As we mark 100 years since the end of World War I, The Speaker: Good afternoon. our thoughts go to remember 977 soldiers from all ranks and 2,282 Let us reflect or pray, each in our own way.     SPRING ‘ convention 16 Convention Highlights March 14 – 16, 2016 Trade Show March 14 TRADESHOW The AAMDC’s annual tradeshow took place on Mon- day, March 14 and featured 164 different vendors from around Alberta and beyond. This special event provides a unique opportunity for municipal staff and elected of- ficials to interact with vendors and discuss the new and innovative products that municipalities can use to en- hance services, reduce costs, and improve operations. A number of excellent door prizes were provided by the vendors including a $750 travel voucher provided by the AAMDC’s Aggregated Business Services Divi- sion. Thank you to all of the vendors and members that made this event a tremendous success.     Jason Kenney Elected Leader of UCP October 30, 2017 JASON KENNEY ELECTED LEADER OF THE UNITED CONSERVATIVE PARTY OF ALBERTA Introduction In a victory surprising for its size and decisiveness, Jason Kenney won the leadership of the United Conservative Party of Alberta (UCP) on Saturday, October 28. Kenney took 61.1 per cent of the almost 60,000 votes cast, besting former Wildrose Party leader Brian Jean with 31.5 per cent, and 7.3 per cent for Doug Schweitzer, who managed the late Jim Prentice’s Progressive Conservative leadership campaign in 2014. Background The win capped a fifteen-month process that began when Kenney launched the idea of uniting Alberta Conservatives into one party, and is a significant tribute to his organizational skills and superior ground game. Kenney’s success had several key steps: • On July 16, 2016, he announced he would seek the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party on a platform of merging with Wildrose. • On March 18, 2017, he was elected leader of the Progressive Conservative Party with more than 75 per cent of the delegate votes. • Two months later, Kenney and Brian Jean announced a merger referendum among the membership of the PCs and Wildrose to be held on July 22. • The referendum was strongly passed by both parties by identical approvals of 96 per cent, which created the United Conservative Party and led the way to last Saturday’s leadership victory.
