As Head Teacher, I hope that our partnership will be productive and enjoyable and that your child settles quickly with us. We take pride in the fact that this is a happy and industrious school with a real sense of team spirit. We hope that your child enjoys his/her time at Fetterangus School. The education of a child is far too important to be left to a school alone. Parents have a very important part to play too. The school handbook explains what you can expect of the school and also indicates what the school expects of you in the way of partnership, help and support. Aberdeenshire Council School Handbooks are designed to inform parents of as many aspects of life at Fetterangus School as we can, and are written in response to ‘School Handbook Guidance (Scotland) Regulations 2012 . We hope you find our handbook clear and informative. Please feel free to contact us with any suggestions for improvements. Devolved budgets are managed in accordance with authority guidelines in order to support planned improvements in the school. The School in Context Fetterangus School, located at the east end of the village, opposite Chalmers Institute, has been part of the community for more than 100 years. It serves the village of Fetterangus and the immediate environs. The original building is now the Early Stages classroom and the post-war extension made provision for the senior class, the office, the staff-room, the library/GP Room, the dining hall/gym and the toilet facilities. At the end of the Session 2015-16, 2 pupils transferred to Mintlaw Academy. The classes are arranged as follows; Primary 1-3 21 pupils Mrs Melissa Cameron Primary 4-7 17 pupils Miss Rachel More The School has a current allocation of 27.5 hours of Pupil Support assistant time. Learning Support is provided by a member of the Mintlaw Academy SFL team. Janitorial support is in place one afternoon per week and the School is further supported by a part-time School Administrator, a Cleaner and a Catering Supervisor. School lunches are prepared at neighbouring Pitfour School and are transported for serving at Fetterangus. The School has an active Parent Council, elected from the Parent Forum at the beginning of the session, along with the Fetterangus School Events Committee. Both encourage the involvement of parents in the work of the School. Through the Pupil Council and various sub-groups, pupils are also directly involved in the decision-making and improvement of the School. The School operates its budget in line with Aberdeenshire EL&L guidelines. Creating an ethos of achievement is central to what we do and we work hard to establish an environment in which all our pupils, staff and members of our community are able to achieve their potential and expectations. The School was inspected by Education Scotland in May 2014. 6 |Introduction to Fetterangus School The school day… ORGANISATION OF THE SCHOOL DAY School Hours Morning Afternoon 9:15 – 12:30 (Interval 10:4 5-11:00) 1:15 – 3:15 Our staff team….. 1.1.1.1 School Staff Name Position Head Teacher / Non-Contact Nik James Teacher P1-3 Mrs Melissa Cameron Teacher P4-7 Miss Rachel More Teacher Learning Mrs Jill Seivwright Teacher Support Support Staff Mrs Sandra Findlay School Administrator Mrs Elizabeth Will PSA/Receptionist/Clerical Asst.
