He strove to the best because it hurt so much not to be A brutally honest book from a perfectionist than changed the game of rugby forever with one kick in I both languished with his falls, and his many injuries, and yet rose with the many triumphs, from World cup glory , to which I also own a copy of the World Cup dvd, which is glorious indeed and well worth watching or even owning to his very joyous satisfaction and success with Toulon. His modesty also struck me - he concentrates more on his mistakes and bad games than he does on his achievements, but I guess that is also the perfectionist coming through. One of the cover notes says "searingly honest" and it is. That however is no criticism on the book in any way - I can't fault when it was written! Here he tells of the physical toll he knew his body was taking from rugby, even from his youth; he tells of how he never wanted to be a kicking fly-half but learned to adapt his natural game to play the style that Clive Woodward believed necessary to win a World Cup, and how he nearly walked out on Martin Johnson's England team 13 years later. It is an uplifting ending for what seems a genuinely good bloke to use a good English, that is British colloquial phrase. I think an updated version of this book should be realeased to cover his success at Toulon which is probably one of his greatest achievments. I just love Jonny Wilkinson, he is my hero!! The autobiography reveals Wilkinson to be a tortured soul, constantly questioning beating himself up: when he was first called into the England squad at the age of 18, he said he wanted to hide and even more than a year later enjoyed the sanctuary of his hotel room. While players who suffer concussion should be managed on an individual basis, the RFU’s CANTERBURY & new standards on managing concussion sees a return to play determined by the player’s age and access to medical resources, with a new ENGLAND RUGBY MAKE routine minimum stand-down period of 19 days for adults and 23 days for Under 19s.
