Now in Our Welcome, 31st Year! George Alexander Vol. 31 No. 5 August 2013 Louis BRITAIN’S new prince has been named George Alexan- der Louis. Speculation over what moniker Prince William and his wife, Kate, would pick for their first child ended just two days after the baby’s birth. Kensington Palace said the royals were “delighted to announce” their son’s name, adding that the Two-day-old baby and third-in-line to the throne will be known as “His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.” Noble names are steeped in history, which explains why thousands of bets rolled in to British bookmakers for the name George, the name of six previous British kings. The moniker evokes the steadfastness of the queen’s father, George VI, who rallied the nation during World War II. Meaning farmer or earth worker, George was the 12th most popular name for boys born in England and Wales in 2011. St George, a fourth-century Chris- tian martyr, is the patron saint of England. Average rating 4. He strove to the best because it hurt so much not to be A brutally honest book from a perfectionist than changed the game of rugby forever with one kick in I both languished with his falls, and his many injuries, and yet rose with the many triumphs, from World cup glory , to which I also own a copy of the World Cup dvd, which is glorious indeed and well worth watching or even owning to his very joyous satisfaction and success with Toulon. That said, if you based your perception of him solely on his own prose, the stats at the end are not consistent at all with the impression he leaves! Jun 10, David rated it it was amazing. The rest of this review can be found elsewhere. His modesty also struck me - he concentrates more on his mistakes and bad games than he does on his achievements, but I guess that is also the perfectionist coming through. One of the cover notes says "searingly honest" and it is. That however is no criticism on the book in any way - I can't fault when it was written! Here he tells of the physical toll he knew his body was taking from rugby, even from his youth; he tells of how he never wanted to be a kicking fly-half but learned to adapt his natural game to play the style that Clive Woodward believed necessary to win a World Cup, and how he nearly walked out on Martin Johnson's England team 13 years later.

  • A Brief History of GRFC
A brief history of GRFC 1873-1981 The club was formed in 1873 after a meeting at the Spread Eagle Hotel with the announcement in the Gloucester Journal: "A football club (as rugby was then called) has been formed in this city - the season's operations begin at the Spa on the first Tuesday in next month." A team was then organised to play the College school. The match was actually played on the ground of the current Kingsholm. There were 11 games played during the club's 1876-77 season, the club winning 6, losing 2 and drawing 3. Gloucester Rugby Football Club had a successful run in the coming seasons, playing 15 games in both the 1877-78 and 1878-79 seasons, winning 10, losing 2 and drawing 3 both times. In the 1879-80 season Gloucester RFC played 17 games and lost just two. The following season was less successful, winning six of their 13 fixtures. In the 1882-83 season the team won 11 of their 14 games. The club was playing more fixtures as the decade continued, contesting 20 games in the 1884-85 season, and up to 34 in the 1891-92 season. The club left the Spa after an argument with the cricket club that they were ground sharing with. During the winter the Rugby Club had used a salt mixture to remove frost from the pitch, resulting in the death of the grass on the wicket. Gloucester RFC were no longer welcome at the Spa ground. They then acquired lands from the Castle Grim Estate for £4,000 in 1891 and have since resided in this place, now known as Kingsholm.
