A MILESTONE YEAR TO OUR BIGS, GENEROUS SUPPORTERS, AND FRIENDS OF THE AGENCY, As we reflect on this past year and over 50 years of Big Brothers Big Sisters in Central Indiana, we are proud to celebrate 25,000 mentoring relationships between our community’s young people and dedicated volunteers. The significance of these relationships is best understood through their individual stories – learning why a parent enrolled their child, what inspired a volunteer to sign up, how they bonded or clicked in the beginning, the ups and occasional downs as their friendship grew and got stronger, what they learned from each other, the milestones they celebrated or sometimes endured together, and the ways that their lives became embedded as friends or family. Big Brothers Big Sisters has continually adapted to maximize the impact of our program, and this year is no different. Although much has changed since Big Brothers of Greater Indianapolis and Big Sisters of Central Indiana were founded in the early 1970s and merged in 2002, one thing is constant: young people are full of inherent potential. We must do everything we can to surround them with the encouragement, guidance, and opportunities to defend, ignite, and empower that potential. That is especially true during these uncertain times when many kids are disconnected from school, teachers, sports and activities, coaches, and family. Our work is more important than ever, and we’re working with our volunteers to adapt and be there for our community’s kids like never before. In this year’s report, you’ll get to see impact stories that span five decades. From high school graduations, to weddings, to new jobs – our matches have shared some of life’s biggest and smallest moments together. We are proud to have played a part in making these relationships possible, and we are grateful for your support.
