  • Spiritual Warfare Is the Hot Topic on the Evangelical 'Circuit'
A Biblical Evaluation of Strategic Level Spiritual Warfare Errol Wagner piritual Warfare is the hot topic on the evangelical 'circuit' today. This can be seen in the large number of books published, seminars and meetings held, dealing with Sthis subject over the past few years. There is a preoccupation with the spirit realm and its influence on the world and lives of individual Christians. This has given rise to a sense of urgency in certain groups that the church needs to do something to deal with these forces of evil. As a result many churches are becoming caught up in practices like 'spiritual mapping', 'prayer walks', 'on-the-spot praying', etc. Perhaps no books have affected the thinking of Christians on the subject of Spiritual Warfare more than Frank Peretti's This Present Darkness, and its sequel Piercing the Darkness. In his novels, Peretti depicts spiritual warfare against the backdrop of New Age globalism. A strong impression is created that believers are in constant combat with the forces of evil. Although Peretti did not intend his books to be taken as anything other than fiction, nevertheless, as Dr Kim Riddlebarger points out, 'People have in many cases, actually redefined their views of the supernatural based upon a fictional novel'. He asserts further: 'Cumulatively, this has produced a whole new generation of Christians who now see the world through a supernatural grid that has more in common with Greek and Persian mystery religions than with Christianity.' I This does not mean there are no serious books on this subject available. We have books written by Dr Rebecca Brown who has worked out a whole system of rebuking and binding Satan and the demonic forces.

  • Spiritual Warfare” in the Anglican Charismatic Renewal
The Church Militant: A Study of “Spiritual Warfare” in the Anglican Charismatic Renewal by GRAHAM RUSSELL SMITH A thesis submitted to the University of Birmingham for the degree of DOCTOR of PHILOSOPHY School of Philosophy, Theology and Religion College of Arts and Law University of Birmingham July 2011 University of Birmingham Research Archive e-theses repository This unpublished thesis/dissertation is copyright of the author and/or third parties. ABSTRACT This thesis uses a practical-theological methodology to explore the theology and spirituality of „spiritual warfare‟ that developed in the charismatic renewal from the 1960s. Beginning with a study of twelve charismatic Anglican pioneers, a detailed case study then explores spiritual warfare praxis in a charismatic Anglican congregation. The ensuing theological reflection focuses on the ontology of evil, through dialogue with Nigel Wright, Amos Yong, and Gregory Boyd, as well as Karl Barth and Walter Wink. The thesis argues for a positive ontology for evil powers, based on a charismatic hermeneutic of biblical texts; on the grounds that Jesus treated Satan and demons as real spiritual entities, the Pauline epistles refer to real evil spiritual powers in the heavenly realms, and charismatic experience supports this ontology.

PETER WAGNER AND ITS IMPLICATIONS FOR CHRISTIAN MISSION IN MALAWI by ERWIN VAN DER MEER submitted in fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR IN THEOLOGY in the subject MISSIOLOGY at the UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH AFRICA SUPERVISOR: DR JNJ KRITZINGER NOVEMBER 2008 ****************** DECLARATION I declare that “THE STRATEGIC LEVEL SPIRITUAL WARFARE THEOLOGY OF C. Student: ________________________ Date_________ ERWIN VAN DER MEER THE STRATEGIC LEVEL SPIRITUAL WARFARE THEOLOGY OF C. PETER WAGNER AND ITS IMPLICATIONS FOR CHRISTIAN MISSION IN MALAWI ABSTRACT Strategic level spiritual warfare has been an emerging trend within Evangelical missiology ever since C. Peter Wagner published his Spiritual Power and Church Growth (1986). The distinctive doctrines of Wagner’s SLSW are 1. The doctrine of territorial spirits, which entails the belief that powerful demons control specific geographical territories and its human inhabitants. Through a variety of spiritual warfare techniques such demons can be overcome. 2. The doctrine of territorial defilement. The assumption here is that a territorial spirit can only hold people in a location in bondage if it has obtained the legal right to do so because of sins and evils committed in that locality in the past. Identificational repentance on behalf of the people living in such territories removes the legal right of the territorial spirits.

  • Honors Eng 9
Hampton Christian Academy Upper School June 2015 ! !Dear Parents, As we enter this summer, all of us—parents, students, and teachers—are excited about the well-earned break from the rigors of school. At the same time, however, we recognize that much hard-earned knowledge tends to slip away during the summer months unless we take measures to retain mental acuity. There is no question that one of the most valuable components to your student's academic success is a sustained pattern of reading. Students who are strong, avid readers are generally proficient students and competent test-takers. Hampton Christian Academy remains committed to doing all we can to develop our students’ reading skills and help them discover the life-long pleasure reading can bring to their lives. With the earlier start date in August, however, we are aware that this summer break !will be shorter, and we are therefore making a one-time adjustment to the usual reading requirement. Each student in grades 7 - 12 is required to read two books during the summer break. (Honors, AP, and Dual- Enrollment English students will have additional summer reading and writing assignments – see school website.) One of the two books has already been chosen for the student based on thematic content and grade level. This selected book will then be discussed the first week of school and a test will be given in class on the required book. This test will account for 50% of the student's summer reading test grade. The additional 50% will be earned by successfully completing a computerized Accelerated Reader quiz on a book from the grade level Accelerated Reader book list or by completing a written book report.

Stevensa A plethora of books and articles testify to a renewed interest in the mysterious realm of celestial powers and their relationship to the terrestrial world.1 In spite of such interest the study of this important theme has often been ignored or relegated to the periphery of serious biblical and theological study.2 In the 1950s Scottish theologian James Stewart noted that the study of the celestial powers—and in particular malevolent powers—was a neglected aspect of New Testament theology.3 More recently, however, the writings of such authors as Walter Wink and Peter Wagner have highlighted the existence of cosmic powers and “territorial spirits” that exert influence in the world.4 In the 1989 Lausanne Congress on World Evangelism, held in Manila, five workshops were devoted to the subject of “territorial spirits.” Since then many books and articles have been published on this much-debated topic,5 and they frequently refer to Daniel 10 a David E.
