Mayor Grant Smith Palmerston North City Council are strong supporters of the newly set-up cultural and ethnic sports tournament - New Zealand Central Southern Muslim Youth Sports Association Inc Tourna- ment. As Mayor, I was happy to donate a per- petual Trophy for the football side of the tournament, with a take home miniature Cup and winner’s medals for the win- ning side. As an inaugural tournament it was great to see it attracted teams from all over the North Island in football and netball - and despite wet weather was very successful. Arena Manawatu and Palmerston North City is perfectly positioned to host both Netball and Football as well as many other sports such as Volleyball for young Muslim and other ethnic competitors. I’m pleased that the 2019 dates have been secured, along with a trans-Tasman event, that will have some great rival- ry. We welcome everyone and I expect numbers and teams to increase signifi- cantly. Palmerston North City is New Zealand’s most ethnically diverse regional City with other 130 different ethnic commu- nities. This includes an active Muslim Community with its own Islamic Centre. Palmerston North City looks forward to hosting an improved and larger 2019 New Zealand Central Southern Muslim Youth Sports Association Tournament next year and hopefully over many years to come. 20 24 November 2018 NZ FIJI TIMES Sports 21 24 November 2018 NZ FIJI TIMES Sports NZCSMYSA IDC Presentation 22 24 November 2018 NZ FIJI TIMES Sports Baber names team to Dubai 7s with four players set to make debut
