September, 2018 Chair’s Comments Margaret Bussard

Chair’s Comments By the time this Newsletter comes out, our Annual Cal Holt Golf Outing will be in the books. I hope many of you were able to join us on August 24th at Safari Golf Club. That outing is always a lot of fun – I don’t golf, so remember there are always Volunteer oppor- tunities! Thank you to all of you who made the time to come to our golf outing, Crime Stop- per’s golf outing, or the Chapter’s golf outing. We have had 37 New Members join (or re-join) this year, so keep an eye out for new faces and introduce yourself. This is a great networking community, so pass on the knowledge and make new connections. Here is a list of the next meetings – when you get your invitation, please RSVP quickly so that we can get your space reserved and let the venue(s) know how many we are planning on:  September – our next regularly-scheduled lunch will be 9/20 at the Boathouse  October – Officer Appreciation Luncheon at Scioto Country Club Finally, we were notified on August 8th that our submission for ASIS Newsletter of The Year yielded us an Honorable Mention Award in that category. I believe we have won that award 3 times and had an Honorable Mention 6 times. Great work by Chris Wilson, Scott Wolford, our photographers (Jeremy and Amanda Jackson) and any others who helped put this together. The notification letter follows, but they will be reserving a lunch table for our Chapter on Monday at the GSX in Las Vegas, so if you will be there please let me know so that you can join us (there are cur- rently 4 of us at the table from the Executive Committee). Have a great rest of your summer, and be safe out there! Margaret

CELEBRATING 60 YEARS-OAL By Chapter Historian Tim Beverly

CELEBRATING 60 YEARS 1958 – 2018 ANNUAL OFFICER APPRECIATION LUNCHEON On October 18th we will hold our 18th annual Officer Appreciation Lunch- eon. This article during our Chapter’s 60th anniversary will look back at the history of this luncheon.

In 2001 the October chapter meeting was marketed as an Officer Apprecia- tion Luncheon. The purpose of the luncheon was to recognize law enforce- ment and private security personnel, and to provide for increased network- ing and cooperation between the public and private sectors. Former Chapter Chairman and Chairman of the Legislative Liaison committee (for many years), John Tucker headed the committee for this luncheon.

Our first luncheon was held on October 18, 2001, (coincidently the same date as this year’s luncheon), at The Me- dallion Country Club in Genoa Township. The luncheon speaker was Rev. Richard Ellsworth.

Corporate tables were sold to fund the luncheon, so invited law enforcement guests would be able to attend at no cost to them. The tables of 10 cost the corporate sponsors $250.00. Five of the seats were reserved for invited law enforcement and the other five were used by the corporate table sponsors to fill with their invited guests. Chapter members were invited at a cost of $25.00 per person.

The event was a great success with 17 corporate table sponsors who purchased tables and a total of 103 people were at the luncheon. Invitations went out to fifty-eight law enforcement agencies with twenty-three law enforce- ment agencies represented at the luncheon. The luncheon was such a success it was decided that this would be- come an annual event to be held as our October meeting. 2001 Officer Appreciation Luncheon
