# OTHER (PLEASE SPECIFY) DATE 1 Please keep vehicles off the beaches to preserve bird nesting sites and shellfish beds. 1/5/2021 4:24 PM Please police illegal activity and put up barriers to stop vehicles on beaches. Control designated launching sites.

2 sustainable future preserving nature as much as possible 12/26/2020 1:35 PM

3 Restriction of vehicular access, control of dogs and other animals 12/26/2020 12:35 PM

4 Increasing biodiversity and support fish stocks to recover by creating marine reserves so 12/25/2020 2:51 PM that 1/3 of is reserve.

5 vehicle useage 12/23/2020 7:34 PM

6 Respect for the coastal stewardship and knowledge of the community who live on the 12/23/2020 4:55 PM coastline.

7 Stop developing on the coast 12/23/2020 2:48 PM

8 Stopping beach erosion by building groins and protective "wave force structures", followed 12/23/2020 9:20 AM by replanting.

9 Keeping the beach a safe place for birds and people by stopping the use of motorbikes and 12/23/2020 7:27 AM trail bikes - these are a loud, dangerous and constant problem

10 Managed retreat from sea level rise/increased storm damage 12/23/2020 6:48 AM

11 Ensuring that risks are managed over the realistic timeframes (decades for climate change, 12/22/2020 8:44 PM not years; promptly for existing coastal hazards).

12 Much improved access for all races, genders, ages, abilities / disabilities. Some way to 12/22/2020 5:19 PM make contact at various points along the beach in case of offence by someone of another race, gender, age, ability / disability. Build a separate toilet and swimmer/ changing room block at Otaki. The 1960 shack is a disgrace - but this council can spend $2.86million for a gateway for non-existent tourists but locals have to pee on the beach. Keep the historic pavilion. Do not destroy it. What will KCDC do? Demolish the pavilion, put a single self cleaning wc on the site. KCDC don't care a hoot about Otaki - this is Raukawa, not Te Raparaha Ngati Awa territory.

13 I'm surprised and disappointed not to see anything about protecting habitat and biodiversity 12/22/2020 4:15 PM and protection and encouragement of developing dunes

# CAN YOU EXPAND ON THE CHANGES (IF ANY) OBSERVED? DATE 1 minor dune erosion and river mouth movement/instability 1/30/2021 3:34 PM

2 Significant erosion of the cliffs/dunes through the length of QE Park - estimate 10 to 15m in 1/22/2021 10:17 AM the 14 years we have lived here

3 Raumati south/beach erosion Sand dune erosion Manly street Q2 park erosion more rau 1/19/2021 1:08 PM south/beach seawalls

4 increased accretion 1/18/2021 2:57 PM

5 General accretion north of the cuspate foreland, erosion to the south 1/11/2021 12:18 PM

6 QE Park deliberately allowed to degrade by Council(s). Lack of proactive maintenance to 1/3/2021 10:28 AM sea walls which were well built but now only get reactive care

7 dune erosion in several places, exacerbated by the artificial stream outfall at Field Way. 12/28/2020 8:55 AM

8 Changes are short term (annual) and long term (decadal). There are the natural - sand level 12/27/2020 5:01 PM and edge of dunes which are variable both along the coast and and with time; and there is the human generated - prime is the residential coastal development that takes up an increasing amount of the foreshore with increasingly expensive properties. re your question 6 below - define "significant" - a very wooly question

9 Waikawa river moves up and down the coast all the time (a natural process interrupted by 12/27/2020 4:49 PM bulldozing a channel occasionally)

10 Erosion at Raumati and near the Waikanae River mouth 12/26/2020 7:06 PM

11 Erosion of dunes and damage to seaside structures/restraints 12/26/2020 6:13 PM

12 SpinFex warls 12/24/2020 8:56 PM

13 much erosion on southern beaches much depletion of shell fish at Otaki beach 12/23/2020 7:34 PM

14 Inundation at varying places along the coast 12/23/2020 5:18 PM

15 I've lived on the coast for a number of decades, and all sandy coastlines experience minor 12/23/2020 5:02 PM changes from time to time. As a result of winds, tides, rain occasional flooding. The Kapiti coastline has formed over thousands of years of gradual accretion. These processes continue today, particularly on the cuspate foreland.

16 35 metres of accretion in front of my property since 2001. Erosion of private property in 12/23/2020 3:08 PM some other areas

17 Erosion. Water collecting where building in wetlands is happening. Kcdc Messing with the 12/23/2020 2:50 PM whenua.

18 30 years ago there was a dry beach strip all the way from Paekakariki to Paraparaumu, 12/23/2020 2:20 PM even at high tide. At low tide the sandy beach was several hundred meters wide.

19 Within the last 8 years, I have seen some interesting changes along the rocks at the base 12/23/2020 2:19 PM of the retaining wall in Raumati South. Eight years ago, there were no signs of sea life within the rocks. Now you will see there are many spots where small mussels and seaweeds have attached themselves to the rocks. This suggests to me that water hits those rocks often enough that sea life have begun to see it as an area to live. I would think this must be due to rising sea levels, more frequent storm surges, etc. While this has happened in Raumati South, I can see different changes elsewhere (e.g. storm events that have damaged retaining walls in other parts of Raumati Beach and Paraparaumu).

20 Waikanae river mouth changes frequently. Also the Waimeha stream. The stream is 12/23/2020 2:18 PM frequently redirected away from the dunes to run straight down the beach and changes frequently following storms

21 Waikanae Beach sand dunes have been eroding especially at the northern end from the 12/23/2020 1:25 PM stream to Peka Peka Why is this not noted under question 6???

22 coastal erosion around Raumati area. 12/23/2020 12:00 PM

23 Accretion of sand. Invasion of exotic plants. Silting in Waikanae estuary. 12/22/2020 11:44 PM

24 Lots of erosion 12/22/2020 9:49 PM

25 Positives: Accretion of the dunes north of Waikanae estuary providing an effective buffer to 12/22/2020 9:12 PM storm erosion and habitat for wildlife. Coastal improvements with walkways and cycleways Negatives: Vulnerability of coastline south of Manly Street to erosion from storm surges and

12 / 22 Kāpiti Coastal Hazard Survey

flooding Loss of wildlife habitat and natural form of the coastline through increasing urbanisation Inevitable loss of Waikanae estuary's natural values and beaches through failure to manage shingle buildup Threats from population growth to water supplies

26 Accretion north of the Paraparaumu/Raumati boundary, erosion south of that point. But that 12/22/2020 8:53 PM is only true for the last several decades; earlier than that there was significant accretion in the Raumati area and erosion around the Waikanae River.

27 Yes, but why would I? Council's shove stuff around at various places. What point 12/22/2020 5:24 PM commenting? Also what is the time frame for noticing change? Poor question.

28 Mainly erosion of dunes and exposure of storm water pipes 12/22/2020 4:41 PM

29 Protection of the coastal strip from extensive vehicle use. 12/22/2020 4:17 PM

30 Coastal erosion in QE Park - bigger storm surges 12/22/2020 3:42 PM

31 Have observed erosion here at Raumati Beach and accretion further north around 12/22/2020 3:39 PM Paraparaumu Beach

32 Ive seen erosion at times at the dunes along peka peka beach (eroding the slopes of the 12/22/2020 3:24 PM dunes), and then (at some later time) followed by accretion. Its hard to know what the overall effect is.

33 Definite erosion of the Elizabeth Park dunes... and waiting, waiting, waiting, for the pathway 12/22/2020 3:05 PM to be re-opened.

34 As I have only lived her for 2 years the changes I have noted are an increase in seawalls in 11/17/2020 1:14 PM Raumati and dune erosion at QE2 park resulting in the loss of walking tracks and exposure of middens.

Other (please specify) 9.88% 8 TOTAL 81

# OTHER (PLEASE SPECIFY) DATE 1 What do you mean by Coastal hazards? Urgent, effective, climate change action is needed. 1/5/2021 4:26 PM

2 Council has allowed infrastructure to degrade then hides behind global warming which while 1/3/2021 10:28 AM real is not actually the cause of the issues

3 Poor question: Coastal hazards are a result of normal processes, they will get worse in the 12/27/2020 5:01 PM future, and, with the rate of decision making within KCDC, are needing urgent attention

4 This is a misleading question, each of the four options should be a different questions. My 12/27/2020 4:49 PM answer would be 1 and 2, and totally against 3 and 4.

5 The diversity of the Kapiti costal area can allow for all the above boxes to be ticked 12/23/2020 3:08 PM

6 All except the first. Some matters (erosion in Raumati, the state of some seawalls) need 12/22/2020 8:53 PM urgent attention, although they are affected by normal coastal processes, because KCDC has neglected them for decades. Sea-level rise will have noticeable effects along the entire shore (and underground for quite some way inland) over the next 50-500 years, with not much of significance over the first several decades.

7 Well warned about. To be expected but not paid for in any way by the public. As the coast 12/22/2020 5:24 PM moves inland that will impact on the water KCDC uses for households. Given it any thought?

19 As a resident and homeowner in Raumati South, I have a vested interest in the decisions 12/23/2020 2:20 PM that are made about our coast. This is NOT just about beachfront homeowners!

20 Because I feel the past attempts to deal with these issues, by KCDC, have been very one 12/23/2020 1:04 PM sided with surveys targeted to getting outcomes that KCDC want rather than what the community wants.

21 It affects me and my property. 12/23/2020 12:56 PM
