The 1960 shack is a disgrace - but this council can spend $2.86million for a gateway for non-existent tourists but locals have to pee on the beach. Keep the historic pavilion. Do not destroy it. What will KCDC do? Demolish the pavilion, put a single self cleaning wc on the site. KCDC don't care a hoot about Otaki - this is Raukawa, not Te Raparaha Ngati Awa territory.

15 I've lived on the coast for a number of decades, and all sandy coastlines experience minor 12/23/2020 5:02 PM changes from time to time. As a result of winds, tides, rain occasional flooding. The Kapiti coastline has formed over thousands of years of gradual accretion. These processes continue today, particularly on the cuspate foreland.

19 Within the last 8 years, I have seen some interesting changes along the rocks at the base 12/23/2020 2:19 PM of the retaining wall in Raumati South. Eight years ago, there were no signs of sea life within the rocks. Now you will see there are many spots where small mussels and seaweeds have attached themselves to the rocks. This suggests to me that water hits those rocks often enough that sea life have begun to see it as an area to live. I would think this must be due to rising sea levels, more frequent storm surges, etc. While this has happened in Raumati South, I can see different changes elsewhere (e.g. storm events that have damaged retaining walls in other parts of Raumati Beach and Paraparaumu).

Sea-level rise will have noticeable effects along the entire shore (and underground for quite some way inland) over the next 50-500 years, with not much of significance over the first several decades.
