Topics covered included: the impact of Brexit, machinery hire vs buying, social licence from big data, farmer mental health and business decision making Thursday the 18th Wagga Wagga City Council’s Vegetation Management Officers Matt McGrath & Chris Holman joined John Harper from CSU in Wagga Marketplace showing people “The Good , The Bad and the Ugly” of the plant world for Science Week, from supermarket botany through to weed identification. Friday 19 Aug Woolshed Thurgoona Landcare joined forces with Thurgoona Public School and Trinity College to plant natives in their neighbourhood habitat corridors. 19th August AIM Breakfast Team Yarrawonga Mulwala Gold Club Resort from 7am-8-30am. Saturday 20th Science Week event: MICROvision at Wagga Wagga City Library. Members of the public had the chance to get up close and personal with the invisible world, invisible to the naked eye that is! Thanks to John Harper and a team of students from CSU and their microscopes. Mon 22 Aug was the last of the series of Solar Pumping for Irrigators Teleconferences, discussing Tips, tricks and traps, hosted by Central West Landcare, Central West Local Land Services and the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage. 22-23 August IREC & RLLS ‘Alternative Options Horticultural Tour’ Griffith to Mildura via Shepparton. Looking at growing and processing different nut crops and cold storage facilities. Mon 22- Tues 23 Woolshed Thurgoona Landcare teamed up with the Holbrook Landcare Green Army team to conduct Nest Box Surveys and maintenance in the Thurgoona, Albury Environmental Lands Tues 23 Woolshed Thurgoona Landcare volunteers attended Governance Effective Training for Not-for-Profit Sector Boards Tues 23 Aug Holbrook Landcare Network held a Healthy Hooves Workshop at ‘Jindalee’ between Cookardinia and Henty. Information session on hoof health and lameness within sheep, with presentations from Professor Richard Whittington and Dr Om Dhungyel on the latest research into diagnosis and vaccination, and MLLS District Vets and Biosecurity Officers, Scott Ison, Mark Corrigan and Neil Whitsed. 23 August 9 -11am Riverina Local Land Services ran a workshops to help landholders "Understand your sub-clover and soil testing" near Young Wed 24 August AIA Wagga Young Professionals in Agriculture and Riverina Bluebell held a ‘Laughter, the best medicine’ event focused on dealing with mental health issues. Wed 24 Wirraminna Environmental Education Centre, West Hume Landcare and Burrumbuttock Public School are held a Community Tree Planting event in Burrumbuttock. 24 Aug The Bhutanese Association in Albury, Albury Wodonga Cultural Exchange (Volunteer Resource Bureau) and Parklands Albury Wodonga presented their fourth and final Open Ideas Talk Series event– “Creating a social enterprise community hub” Upcoming Events Seen any Superb Parrots yet this season? The evening will also include presentations by The Murray Group, including The Murray Messages and NAPREC. A presentation from Edward River Council will also take place. Learn some Wiradjuri language, learn about scar trees, native wildlife, bush tucker, and other aspects of Wiradjuri culture. 10am-2pm $15 per person. http://wwul.org.au/node/3281 - SOLD OUT 28 Aug Young District Landcare hosting a Wattle Day Walk at Maimuru, near Young, and on Tuesday 30 Aug Weddin Landcare Group will be hosting on near Grenfell. Both events will run from 10am to 3pm. In addition to learning many fascinating facts about wattles, attendees will receive 2 wattle plants and a booklet titled ‘Bringing Birds Back’. Plus you will enjoy some lovely wattle seed tucker, a BBQ lunch, inspiring walks through the wattles and great company of like- minded people. Morning tea and lunch provided. No cost.
