Head Coach Ed Cooley has led the Friars to six straight post-season appearances, including five consecu- tive NCAA Tournaments. Last season, the Friars reached the NCAA Tournament for a team-record fifth straight season after finishing 21-14 and placing third (10-8) in the BIG EAST. This season, the Friars will return a strong squad that could challenge for the BIG EAST title and make a run at their sixth consecutive NCAA appearance. Leading the way for the team will be veterans Emmitt Holt, Alpha Diallo, Isaiah Jackson, Kalif Young and Nate Watson. Emmitt Holt (Webster, N.Y.) is returning to the Friar lineup after sitting out the 2017-18 season due to an abdominal injury. Holt will be the veteran leader in the frontcourt and be an integral part of the team’s success with his return. His ability to take control in the paint allowed him to shoot 52 percent from the field during the 2016-17 season. He averaged 12.5 points and 5.4 rebounds for the season. Anchoring the backcourt this upcoming season will be junior Alpha Diallo (New York, N.Y.) and senior Isaiah Jackson (Gainesville, Fla.). Diallo led the team averaging 6.6 rebounds per game last season. Along with his success on the boards, Diallo averaged 13.2 points while playing 30.5 minutes a game. His performance dur- ing the BIG EAST Tournament did not go unnoticed as he carried the team to a near upset of eventual national champion Villanova in the league title game. He averaged 19.3 points and 8.3 boards over the four-day tourna- ment and was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team. Diallo’s backcourt teammate Isaiah Jackson, who came off the bench last season, looks to improve on his already solid average of 7.6 points and 4.3 rebounds a game. He shot 36 percent from beyond the arc last season, which makes him the squad's leading three-point shooter. Integral members to the frontcourt will be junior Kalif Young (Vaughan, Ontario) and sophomore Nate Watson (Arlington, Va.). Young took a leading role last season and started 25 games. His presence in the post allowed him to record 4.3 ppg and 4.1 rpg. Watson played in all 35 games last season and gained valuable experi- ence on the court in his first year. Watson should be an efficient scorer in the post again this season, as he led the team with a 60 percent field goal percentage in 2017-18.

The county government had contracted with Virginia Hospital Center to provide vaccinations on a large scale at Walter Reed Com- munity Center. But given new mandates from the Virginia De- partment of Health, that arrange- ment is out the window and, for now at least, the hospital is out of the vaccine-distribution business. What happened? As the state government continued to roll out vaccination efforts statewide, it became increasingly clear that supply would be no match for de- FLYING THROUGH THE AIR WITH THE GREATEST OF EASE ... mand across Virginia. PHOTOS COURTESY OF GABRIELLE MARKS/PROVIDENCE COLLEGE TDF Below (L to R): Michael Henshaw '23, Steven Sawan '20, and Teddy Kiritsy '21G. by Madison Palmieri '22 A&E Staff THEATRE Something Rotten! is something special. Providence College’s Department of Theatre, Dance, and Film has been granted the privilege and honor of giving the show its northeastern regional collegiate premiere this past weekend. The production offers something for everyone, from casual theatregoers to diehard fans of Shakespeare, who will be sure to catch every one of the many theatrical references made throughout the show’s two acts. For the past couple of months, the talented cast and dedicated crew have worked tirelessly to bring the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit to life in the Angell BlackFriars Theatre in the Smith Center for the Arts. Directed by Jimmy Calitri, with music direction by Lila Kane and choreography by Jennifer Hopkins, the show chronicles the misadventures of the Bottom brothers, Nick and Nigel. It follows their attempts to create a successful show in Renaissance-era England, in an attempt to compete with their rival, the beloved William Shakespeare. With a colorful cast of characters and outrageously hilarious musical numbers, the brothers and their friends learn about the importance of friendship, love, and theatre.
