Powell was named BIG EAST Player of the Year by a vote of the league’s head coaches. The senior led the Pirates to a share of the BIG EAST regular-season crown and ranked second in the league in scoring with a 21.8 average, which was 17th nationally. Howard led the nation in scoring with a 27.8 average and ranked second in 3-pointers made with 294. He also became the BIG EAST’s all-time leading scorer in league games with 1,587 points and in 3-pointers made with 245. Creighton, Villanova and Seton Hall finished at the top with 13-5 (0-0), Marquette (1-2), Providence (1-0), St. John’s (0-0), Seton Hall (0-0), league records. On the final day of the regular season, the Bluejays forced the Villanova (1-0), Xavier (2-1). three-way tie when they defeated the Pirates 77-60 while Villanova was slipping past Georgetown 70-69. Creighton would have played the BIG EAST Tournament as the top seed with Villanova second and Seton Hall third. For the Bluejays, it BIG EAST was their first regular-season crown. It was the sixth title over the past seven years for the Wildcats and the first for the Pirates since 1992-93. VS. THE CONFERENCES Conference Record Conference Record UCONN REJOINS BIG EAST FOR 2020-21 America East 6-1 Mountain West 0-1 On June 27, 2019, the BIG EAST announced that the University of Connecticut American 4-0 NEC 8-0 will rejoin the conference as a full time member. The Huskies will begin ACC 2-2 Ohio Valley 1-0 competing in 2020-21. One of the seven original members of the conference, Atlantic Sun 6-0 Pac-12 4-2 Connecticut competed as a BIG EAST school for the first 34 years of the league’s Atlantic 10 5-1 existence beginning in the 1979-80 and continuing through 2012-13. The Patriot 3-0 Big Sky 0-0 SEC 4-2 addition of UConn will increase the number of full members in the BIG EAST to Big South 0-0 11 institutions.
