ABSTRACT THE ORIGIN, DEVELOPMENT, AND HISTORY OF THE NORWEGIAN SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH FROM THE 1840s TO 1887 by Bjorgvin Martin Hjelvik Snorrason Adviser: Jerry Moon ABSTRACT OF GRADUATE STUDENT RESEARCH Dissertation Andrews University Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary Title: THE ORIGIN, DEVELOPMENT, AND HISTORY OF THE NORWEGIAN SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH FROM THE 1840s TO 1887 Name of researcher: Bjorgvin Martin Hjelvik Snorrason Name and degree of faculty adviser: Jerry Moon, Ph.D. Date completed: July 2010 This dissertation reconstructs chronologically the history of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Norway from the Haugian Pietist revival in the early 1800s to the establishment of the first Seventh-day Adventist Conference in Norway in 1887. The present study has been based as far as possible on primary sources such as protocols, letters, legal documents, and articles in journals, magazines, and newspapers from the nineteenth century. A contextual-comparative approach was employed to evaluate the objectivity of a given source. Secondary sources have also been consulted for interpretation and as corroborating evidence, especially when no primary sources were available. The study concludes that the Pietist revival ignited by the Norwegian Lutheran lay preacher, Hans Nielsen Hauge (1771-1824), represented the culmination of the sixteenth- century Reformation in Norway, and the forerunner of the Adventist movement in that country.

    THE GRANITIC ROCKS OF FARSUND, SOUTH NORWAY ERIC MIDDLEMOST MIDDLEMOST, E.: The granitic rocks of Farsund, South Norway. Norsk Geo/. Tidsskr. 48, pp. 81-99. Oslo 1968. The farsundite is a composite granitic body that crops out over an area of some 420 sq. km. in southern Norway. On a local scale the contact between the farsundite and the surrounding country rocks is often discordant; but when observed on a regional scale a broad structural conformity emerges. Three main facies are found within the farsundite body and the mineralogy and chemistry of these units is discussed. The farsundite is regarded as part of the Rogaland anorthosite province. It was emplaced as a magma that was augmented in volume by the in­ corporation of granitic gneiss. The charnockitic part of the farsundite body is believed to have crystallized under granulite facies conditions at a timl! whenthe main mass of rocks of the Rogaland anorthosite province was cooling down. INTRODUCTION The present study is a reappraisal of the granitic rocks described as farsundite by Barth (in Holtedahl 1960, pp. 41-44). These rocks crop out over an area of approximately 420 sq.km. in south western Vest-Agder, the southern-most county in Norway. Most of the farsundite crops out on a series of peninsulas and islands that are separated from one another by an intricate pattern of fjords. The highest point in the area is at Klåskniben (504 m.) which is 3.5 km east of Orange. The landscape is generally rugged, and it shows consider­ able evidence of ice sculpturing.

    Nr 1/2 Vår/sommer 2015 ...blekner aldri Gode tall for Oddernes menighet Det har blitt skrevet en del om nedgang i Den norske kirke. Men hvordan står det egentlig til? Og det som kanskje inter- esserer oss mest, er vel det som er nærmest oss – Oddernes menighet. Den store gleden er konfirmasjonstallene. De har vært stabile og høye i flere år. Et annet høydepunkt er at Oddernes øker gudstjenestebesøket. Samtidig ser vi at antall utmeldte var høyt i fjor. Dette har menighetsbladet skrevet om tidligere – selv om antallet utmeldte nok ikke er så høyt sammenlignet med andre menighe- ter i Den norske kirke, så opplevde også vi en del utmeldinger i forbindelse med Kirkemøtets vedtak om å ikke åpne for Mange ønsker å konfrimere seg ekteskapsinngåelse for par med samme i Oddernes og Justvik. Her er to kjønn. Vi registrerer også at dåpsprosenten av årets konfirmanter, Anders har gått ned i forhold til før. Dette er en Bjørnholmen Øvensen og trend vi ønsker å jobbe aktivt for å snu. Li- Innmeldt 10 8 3 kevel kan vi si at vi har tilnærmet lik 100% oppslutning. Og det er veldig bra! Men Utmeldt 82 51 27 2015 er ikke så unormalt i forhold til andre Døpt 100 106 117 år – Oddernes opplever ikke nedgang når det gjelder konfirmasjon.
