If you swipe through the map (in a supported location) using transit viewing modes or maps (not a satellite), you will see a set of binoculars appearing in the top right corner of the screen, right under the Information and Compass buttons. Click the binoculars icon and a little insert will appear at the top of the screen, with the card peeking out underneath it. You can tap the Expand icon in the top left to make an appearance on the street Apple Maps full screen. Click on the same icon again to collapse back into the smaller window. Part of Google Maps, Street View is a location-based service offered by Google that allows you to see real images of locations around the world. If you're lucky, you can catch one of the Street View cars with the Google logo and funky looking cameras on top driving around your city or city to update your photos. One of the most amazing things about Google Maps is that the images are of such high quality that you feel like you are standing right there in the very place. That's because the car View takes pictures using the Immersive Media camera, which provides a 360-degree picture of the picture Neighborhood. Using this special camera, Google maps from these areas so that its users can see them in a semi-real life panoramic way. It's great if you're not familiar with the destination and want to find some visual landmarks. Another great use of street viewing is that it lets you walk down any street using just your mouse. There may not be much practical purpose for walking random streets on Google Maps, but it's definitely a lot of fun! Not all areas have been mapped on View Street, so if you live in the countryside, you might not be able to walk down your own street. However, there are many popular and even totally random places that you can enjoy on Street View as well as some strange things caught with the Street View camera. Start by looking for the name of your location or specific address. Then use the mouse scroll wheel or the plus and minus buttons in the bottom right corner of the map to zoom in as close to the road as possible, ideally, until you see the name of the street or building. Drag the map around with your mouse if you're not scaling in the specific place you want to be. To see which streets are available to view the streets in the area that you zoomed up to, click on the little yellow Pegman icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. This should highlight some streets on the map in blue, which means that the road has been mapped to view the streets. If your road is not highlighted in blue, you need to look elsewhere. You can find other places nearby using a mouse to drag the map around, or you can just look for another place. Click on any part of the blue line in the exact location of your choice. Google Maps then magically turn into Google Street View as it zooms in on the area. A quick way to go straight to Street View without allocating roads to drag Pegman straight to the street. Now that you're fully immersed in Street View for your choice, you can explore it by moving through 360-degree images. To do this, just use the arrow keys on the keyboard, which allow you to move back and forth, as well as turn around. To zoom in on something, hit the minus or plus keys. Another way is to use the mouse to find on-screen arrows that allow you to move up and down the street. To turn around with your mouse, drag the screen left and right. To zoom in, just use the scroll wheel. When you're done exploring Street View, you can always go back to Google Maps to view the overheads again. To do this, just hit a small horizontal arrow back or a red pin arrangement in the top left corner. If you click on a regular card at the bottom of the screen, you can turn half of the screen into Street View and the other In a normal view from above, making it much easier to navigate on nearby roads. To share exactly the same street viewpoint you're in, use use Small menu button in top left. Below, that share menu is another option that lets you see that area is viewing the streets from the old point of time. Drag the time bar left and right to quickly see how this landscape has changed over the years! Google has regular Google Maps apps for mobile devices, but they also make a special Street View app to peek down the streets and other fun places using nothing but your phone. Google Street View is available for iOS and Android devices. You can use the app to explore new places just as much as you can from your computer. You can also use the Google Street View app to create collections, customize your profile, and create your own 360-degree images with your device's camera (if it's compatible). Google Maps is an important tool for those planning a day trip or vacation, providing a clear but detailed overview of places and how to achieve them. What's more, it provides an easy way for all of us to find our literal place in the world, although it may not help with a more figurative notion of belonging. Google Maps was already amazing, and then a few years after its launch Google Street View was added to the mix. At this point there was an opportunity to travel virtually to real cities and towns. Google Street View coverage now includes more than 60 countries, with ground-level panoramic views (often containing strange attractions) for the huge swathes of these places available to view online. However, Google Maps, and in particular Google Street View, is not only good for route planning. There have been some fantastic Google Street View hybrid created over the years, and there are also websites that use Google Street View to help you do some virtual globetrotting. And then there are the games built on top of Google Maps and Google Street View, five of which are listed here for you to enjoy when you are bored at work. The Real World Racer Real World Racer is a simple Google Street view game that offers exactly what the title implies it should. While most racing games rely on either fully imaginary routes or rough approaches of real locations, Real World Racer allows you to race on real roads around the world. So, the visuals aren't going to win any awards, and the controls are pretty limited, but for those people who miss the days when top-down racers were as good as it got, Real World Racer should hit a (nostalgic) spot. You choose a route - either an existing eight on offer or one selected by you, just entering the start and finish points - and then racing car against computer-controlled opponents. First cross the finish line wins, obviously, although you win nothing more than the satisfaction of arguing from a bestselling poor AI. The Street View Street View quiz is another Google Street view game whose name speaks for itself. This is a website full of quiz questions based on Google Maps Maps Google Street View.
