Republican state enterprise "Altai Botanical Garden" of the Committee of Science, Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan 071300, Republic of Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan Region, Ridder, Ermakova str., 1 ABSTRACT The current paper represents ecological, biological, and resource studies of Hedysarum theinum Krasnob. at the Ivanovsky Mountain Range of the Kazakh Altai Mountains. We have provided a phytocoenotic description of the species’ habitat, and determined the ontogenesis, age composition of the coenopopulations, numbers, presence of pests and pathogenic organisms, as well as the seasonal rhythm of development of sweetvetch. We have found that Hedysarum theinum inhabits large territories of the Ivanovsky Mountain Range and undergoes excessive anthropogenic impact. The species does not form industrial reserves and may serve as a source of raw materials for the local pharmacy chain. Within the coenopopulations, the species acts as dominant or subdominant. The sweetvetch coenopopulations from different sites of the Ivanovsky Mountain Range have similar age composition with uniform age spectra: in all cases the absolute maxima account for mature reproductive individuals. The populations of this species have normal age distributions lacking certain stages, they are dominated by mature generative plants, the numbers of juvenile and premature individuals are low, whereas senile plants are completely absent. Seed productivity undergoes substantial fluctuations over the years, also depending on the altitude of the species’ habitat and climatic conditions during the vegetative period, while almost all altitudinal belts are marked by relatively high seed productivity. -

Movements of individuals within and among populations help to maintain genetic variability and population viability. erefore, understanding landscape connectivity is vital for effective species conservation. e snow leopard is endemic to mountainous areas of central Asia and occurs within 12 countries. We assess potential connectivity across the species’ range to highlight corridors for dispersal and genetic flow between populations, prioritizing research and conservation action for this wide-ranging, endangered top-predator. We used resistant kernel modeling to assess snow leopard population connectivity across its global range. We developed an expert-based resistance surface that predicted cost of movement as functions of topographical complexity and land cover. e distribution of individuals was simulated as a uniform density of points throughout the currently accepted global range. -

Major mountains include Saur, Tarbagatai, Dzungarian Alatau, Tien Shan, Pamir-Alai and Kopet Dag. Because a range of altitudinal belts exists, the region is characterized by high biological diversity at ecosystem, species and population levels. In addition, the contact between Asian and Mediterranean flora in Central Asia has created unique plant communities. More than 8100 plant species have been recorded for the territory of Central Asia; about 5000–6000 of them grow in the mountains. The aim of this review is to summarize all the available data from 1930 to date on alkaloid-containing plants of the Central Asian mountains. In Saur 301 of a total of 661 species, in Tarbagatai 487 out of 1195, in Dzungarian Alatau 699 out of 1080, in Tien Shan 1177 out of 3251, in Pamir-Alai 1165 out of 3422 and in Kopet Dag 438 out of 1942 species produce alkaloids. The review also tabulates the individual alkaloids which were detected in the plants from the Central Asian mountains. -

And the disputes between the Russians and their neighbours and between the Bashkirs, the Kazakhs, the Turkomans, the Kyrgyz and the Kalmyks – not to mention the Djungars, the Dungans, the Nogai, the Mongols, the Uighurs and countless others – means that this is not a subject for the faint-hearted. Nonetheless, I hope that the writings referred to in this book have been put into the right historical context. The reasons why outsiders travelled to the Great Steppe varied over time and in themselves provide a different kind of history. Some of these travellers, particularly the women, have been forgotten by modern readers. Hopefully this book will stimulate you the reader to track down some of the long- forgotten classics mentioned within. Personally, I do not think the steppe culture described so vividly by travellers in these pages will ever fully disappear. The steppe is truly vast and can swallow whole cities with ease. Landscape has a close relationship with culture – and the former usually dominates the latter. Whatever happens, it will be many years before the Great Steppe finally gives up all its secrets. The region is notable as a contact zone for Siberian, Boreal, and Central Asian Trichoptera faunas. The study reveals numerous limits of distribution for species comprising more than half of the local fauna at very low level of local endemism. The fauna is poor and probably resulted from post-glacial colonization through some zoogeographic barriers. Lichen-forming and lichenicolous fungi new to Kazakhstan. – Herzogia 26: 103 –116. Although there is a published lichen flora of Kazakhstan, the diversity of lichen-forming and lichenicolous fungi of this country is incompletely known. Here we publish records of 41 species of lichens and 2 species of lichenicolous fungi for the first time from Kazakhstan. All collections are from the Kazakh Altai and the Saur Mountains, East Kazakhstan. Caloplaca monacensis, Immersaria iranica, Lepraria elobata, L. rigidula and Parmelina pastillifera are new for the wider surroundings of Kazakhstan, as they have neither been found in Central Asia so far, nor in southern Siberia. Several species are new to Central Asia, but were already known from the nearby Siberia. Zusammenfassung: Hauck, M., Tønsberg, T., Mayrhofer, H. & Breuss, O. 2013. Obwohl es eine publizierte Flechtenflora von Kasachstan gibt, ist die Diversität der Flechten bildenden und bewoh- nenden Pilze dieses Landes unvollständig bekannt. Hier veröffentlichen wir Neunachweise von 41 Flechtenarten und 2 Arten Flechten bewohnender Pilze für Kasachstan. Alle Aufsammlungen stammen vom Kasachischen Altai und dem Saur-Gebirge in Ostkasachstan. Caloplaca monacensis, Immersaria iranica, Lepraria elobata, L. rigidula and Parmelina pastillifera sind neu für die weitere Umgebung Kasachstans, da sie bisher weder in Zentralasien noch in Südsibirien gefunden wurden. Mehrere Arten sind neu für Zentralasien, waren aber bereits aus dem nahen Sibirien bekannt.
