It is located in a relatively undisturbed area of the boreal forest about 4 km off of Highway 914 and approximately 35 km north-northeast of the Key Lake uranium operation. Wheeler is a joint venture project owned by Denison Mines Corp. (Denison) and JCU (Canada) Exploration Company Ltd. (JCU). Denison owns 90% of Wheeler and is the operator, while JCU owns 10%. Denison is a uranium exploration and development company with interests focused in the Athabasca Basin region of northern Saskatchewan, Canada with a head office in Toronto, Ontario and technical office in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Historically Denison has had over 50 years of uranium mining experience in Saskatchewan, Elliot Lake, Ontario, and in the United States. Today, the company is part owner (22.5%) of the McClean Lake Joint Venture which includes the operating McClean Lake uranium mill in northern Saskatchewan. To advance the Project, Denison is applying an innovative approach to uranium mining in Canada called in situ recovery (ISR). The use of ISR mining at Wheeler means that there will be no need for a large open pit mining operation or multiple shafts to access underground mine workings; no workers will be underground as the ISR process is conducted from surface facilities.

Abstract Recently northwest Saskatchewan has seen a rapid push towards large-scale development corresponding with a shifting political economy in the province. For the rights- bearing Métis people of northwest Saskatchewan this shift significantly influences provincial environmental governance, which affects the agency of Métis people to participate in natural resource management and decision-making in the region. To examine the agency and power of Métis communities in provincial natural resource management and decision-making, qualitative methods and a comparative case study of three Métis communities were used to analyze and interpret the social spaces that Métis people occupy in provincial environmental governance.

    UPDATE TO CITIZENS JUNE 2020 ON THE RESPONSE TO COVID-19 KII-KAY-TAAK - LET’S HEAL / WIICHIHITOOYAAHK - HELPING ONE ANOTHER MN-S Cares Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the Métis Nation-Saskatchewan (MN-S) has worked to contribute to the global efforts to protect public health and safety, and in particular the health and well-being of its citizens, staff, and elected officials. We have taken proactive steps to protect the health of our citizens, families and our communities. The MN-S COVID-19 task team has been in place since March 12. Led by our Minister of Health Marg Friesen, it has been charged with coordinating and implementing measures to respond to the pandemic as the situation has evolved. In mid- March, the MN-S took steps to reduce the spread of the virus, including suspending gatherings and public consultations. MN-S provided staff with the necessary means to continue to work remotely and closed all our offices, including registry offices, to the public. On March 30, MN-S announced its first set of emergency relief measures including distributing emergency supports for childcare, personal protective equipment, and financial aid to Métis households in need. We also increased capacity to each of our 12 regions to allow them to provide tailored and specific support to citizens in a manner that was flexible and responsive to the distinct needs of communities across the province. In the past two months, over 4000 Métis families have benefited from these childcare and household supports. These initial emergency supports were intended to assist those most in need and bridge the gap between the outbreak of the virus and the provision of core financial support by other levels of government.

Whether returning home from out-of-province, visiting or moving between waters within the province make sure to: CLEAN and inspect watercraft and gear. Remove all visible plants, animals and mud. Rinse using high-pressure, hot tap water 500C (1200F). DRAIN all onboard water from watercraft, including the motor, livewell, bilge and bait buckets, and leave plugs out during transportation and storage. DRY your watercraft and all related gear for at least five days in the hot sun if rinsing is not available. Dispose of unwanted leeches and worms in the trash and dump bait bucket water on land.
