Politics, Religion & Salvation 200, 400 & 600 (6 Dec) P a g e | 1 of 5 Revision 3: 30/11/14 Politics, Religion & Salvation 200, 400 & 600 (6 Dec) Monastic Fantastic 200 (7 Dec) Audax Australia Cycling Club Inc. A.C.T. Region This is a series of rides which start in Hall, A.C.T. on Saturday 6th of December. There’s options for 200+200 (that is a 200 on Saturday, overnight stop in Grenfell, then 200 on Sunday return, 13.5hr limit each day), a 400km loop (27hr limit) or a 600km (overnight stop in Canowindra, 40hr limit). For rides which require overnight accommodation (200+200 & 600) you can stay wherever you like in the towns nominated and a bag drop/pickup will be provided. For the 600 there is recommended accommodation as dinner and breakfast will be provided there, but you can stay elsewhere and pop in to eat. The most important thing is that accommodation is at a premium in both Grenfell and Canowindra. If you plan on riding book your room now. With ride registration I will ask where you are booked to arrange bag drops. Modest support fee to cover costs of transport and food. This document will be updated with cue sheets and any other notes/information as required. Ride Organiser: Russell Noble Phone: 0404 815 721 Email: [email protected] Online Registration: http://audax.psike.org/events/ 200+200 riders need to register for the events on both days. Registration closes Monday 1st of December. Cue Sheets Cue sheets in excel format so you can format them how you like: http://www.audax.org.au/public/images/stories/regions/ACT/CueSheet_PRS.xlsx Cue sheets and maps will be provided on the day. P a g e | 2 of 5 Revision 3: 30/11/14 200 + 200 Route Day 1: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/6353548 Route Day 2: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/6353609 6 Dec: Actually ride 210km (for a 200km BRM, sorry!) from Hall, A.C.T. to Grenfell, N.S.W. and stop overnight. The route is the same route as the 400 and 600 riders take all the way to Grenfell. Hall to Yass along the Barton Hway, to Bowning, and then Binalong along Hughstonia Rd to the checkpoint at Boorowa (110km). It’s a long way to the first checkpoint but there’s ample opportunity for food and drinks along the way. From Boorowa we head to the next checkpoint at Bendick Murrell (154km) via Murringo. In Bendick Murrell the only shop/pub in town will serve you well, before the last leg through the Greenethorpe area, the home of share farming in Australia, and the site of Iandra castle. Some superb views of the Weddin Mountains in the distance past expansive fields. Arrange your own accommodation and meals in Grenfell. A bag drop/pickup at your accommodation is provided. For breakfast suggest the Star Café (cnr Main and Highway at the service station) which is open from 7am to 2pm. 7 Dec: Ride the 202km (200km BRM) from Grenfell back to Hall, this is called the “Monastic Fantastic”. This takes the same route as the 600 riders will be returning on. Route from Grenfell is back roads (Mary Gilmore Way/Old Forbes Rd) to Henry Lawson Way, into Young (58km) for a refuel. You’ll need some bike food, the next section is over 90km before the next food stop at Yass, but water is available. Moppity Rd and more back roads via St Clements Monastery into the village of Galong (water stop @ 107km), then Binalong, the Yass Service Centre (153km) and down the Barton Highway to Hall. Accommodation Options Grenfell Motel, 84 Main St Ph: (02) 6343 1333 Grenfell Caravan Park, Henry Lawson Way, Grenfell, (02) 6343 1194 There are also several hotels which provide lower cost pub style accommodation, see http://www.grenfell.org.au/accommodation.htm P a g e | 3 of 5 Revision 3: 30/11/14 400 Route: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/6353486 6 Dec: Ride the 210km with the 200 and 600km riders from Hall, A.C.T. to Grenfell. N.S.W. In Bendick Murrell the only shop/pub in town will serve you well, before the leg through the Greenethorpe area, the home of share farming in Australia, and the site of Iandra castle. Some superb views of the Weddin Mountains in the distance past expansive fields. While the other riders stop in Grenfell (210km) for night or proceed on to Canowindra, you’ll start to head for home using basically the same route as the other riders will (with slight modification to reduce the distance slightly). Route from Grenfell is Henry Lawson Way to Young (264km) for a refuel. You’ll need some bike food, the next section is over 90km before the next food stop at Yass, but water is available. Moppity Rd and more back roads via St Clements Monastery into the village of Galong (water stop @ 313km), then Binalong, the Yass Service Centre (358km) and down the Barton Highway to Hall. Accommodation Options None planned. If you aren’t riding the 400 straight through and want a bag dropped along the route please contact the Ride Organiser to discuss. You’ll need to organise accommodation, dinner and breakfast yourself. P a g e | 4 of 5 Revision 3: 30/11/14 600 Route: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/6344689 6 Dec: Ride 210km from Hall, A.C.T. to Grenfell with the 200 and 400km riders. Hall to Yass along the Barton Hway, to Bowning, and then Binalong along Hughstonia Rd to the checkpoint at Boorowa (110km). It’s a long way to the first checkpoint but there’s ample opportunity for food and drinks along the way. From Boorowa we head to the next checkpoint at Bendick Murrell (154 km) via Murringo. In Bendick Murrell the only shop/pub in town will serve you well, before the last leg through the Greenethorpe area, the home of share farming in Australia, and the site of Iandra castle. Some superb views of the Weddin Mountains in the distance past expansive fields. From Grenfell (210km) you will continue north through Eugowra (276km) where food will provided at checkpoint in the park. From here northeast along The Escort Way and then south west on Longs Corner Rd to travel around Nangar National Park arriving at Canowindra (325km) which is the recommended night stop. The Ride Organiser is staying at the The Old Vic Inn where dinner and breakfast will be provided. 7 Dec: You’ll now head back to Grenfell (402km) via River Rd, and Gooloogong. If your luck is with you the 200km riders will tow you all the way back to Canberra. Route from Grenfell is back roads (Mary Gilmore Way/Old Forbes Rd) to Henry Lawson Way, into Young (460km) for a refuel. You’ll need some bike food, the next section is over 90km before the next food stop, but water is available. Moppity Rd and more back roads via St Clements Monastery into the village of Galong (water stop), then Binalong, the Yass Service Centre (554km) and down the Barton Highway to Hall. Accommodation Options Wherever you are staying book and pay for your accommodation yourself. As long as you let the ride organiser know where you are staying a bag drop / pickup will be provided, but breakfast and dinner will be at the The Old Vic Inn. The Old Vic Inn Ph: 02 6344 1009 56 Gaskill St, Canowindra http://www.oldvicinn.com.au/ This is a renovated pub which is now a big B&B. It’s old school but has A/C, and they are providing us access to common rooms, will provide breakfast and a shed to store bikes. There are a variety of room options available, from twin/double $130, to rooms which can accommodate more people (rough rate is $130 for 2 people + $20 per extra person). Room rate includes breakfast. Some rooms have ensuites, some don’t. Ride Organiser is staying at this location and the checkpoint will be in the downstairs unit at the back of the building where food, drinks etc will be available. You are not required to stay here, I will drop bags elsewhere but food and drinks will be here. When you book mention the cycling group. Canowindra Riverview Motel Ph: (02) 6344 1633 3 Tilga St, Canowindra NSW (Very close to the course, few hundred metres from The Old Vic Inn) Rate advised was $130 for a double / twinshare. http://www.canowindrariverviewmotel.com.au/ P a g e | 5 of 5 Revision 3: 30/11/14 Canowindra Caravan Park Ph: 02 6344 1850 The owner couldn’t guarantee booking due to the fruit pickers. The past year has seen SEROC continue to develop and gain wider recognition by the State Government. In particular, as a conduit for regional consultation on a range of matters including NSW Premier and Cabinet’s Regional Action Plan and the implementation of recommendations to emerge from the Independent Local Government Review Panel. With 17 ROCs representing approximately 145 Councils across NSW, government agencies are increasingly engaging with ROCs for regional consultation and participation on State working groups. It is important that we have collective regional input to ensure that theses reviews provide a positive outcome for our region and local government as a whole. SEROC’s outgoing Executive Officer, Don Cooper, retired at the end of 2013, and was replaced by Dr Helen Swan. Dr Swan has provided SEROC with a strong grounding in integrated regional strategic planning and governance.
