Ryzner Stories 2 The Zombie Mom By Michael W. One day I was tying my shoes at home. When I looked up, my mom was a zombie. I ran to my room and shut my door. My zombie mom came in my room. She growled at me. I ran in my closet and closed the door. My mom opened the door and tried to swallow me. Before she could swallow me, my dad pushed her, and she popped slime out of her mouth. 1 Then my dad took water and poured it on my mom. My mom turned back to normal and said, “What am I doing?” I said, “You were just a zombie. Dad took water and poured it on you, and you turned back to normal.” 2 The Day I Became a Mermaid By A’nilah E. One evening I was putting water on my legs in the bathroom when I fell on the floor, and I had a tail. I saw nasty scales on my legs and I was so scared. I was afraid I would not turn back. I turned into a red mermaid. I asked my mother, “Can you take me to the lake?” 3 She said, “Yes, I will take you to the lake. Just wait a minute.” She didn’t care that I was a mermaid, but she was surprised. My mama took me to a lake. Now I was swimming in the lake and I was happy. Suddenly I met a mermaid. Her name was Sarah. “Hi, do you want to learn a wish spell?” she asked. I said, “Yes, I do.” Next, I did the spell. “Make the spell come real.” Then I wished that if I’m wet I’ll be a mermaid and when I’m dry I will be human. I played with Sarah. We played mermaid hide and go seek. We went and got under the water and we would hide behind stuf. It was so fun playing in the lake, but I was scared when I turned into a mermaid because I thought people might try to do a science experiment on me. I had been seeing people wearing white lab coats and goggles. They had a big net and a big cage. So I changed back into a human forever because I asked the mermaid can she give me another spell. I was so relieved to be human again. 4 The Magic Cake By Londyn P. One day when I woke up I went to my backyard. I was playing. I saw a big sparkling cake and I ate it. When I ate the cake it tasted like bubblegum. My stomach started hurting and suddenly it stopped. Then I felt fine. I realized I had powers! The power was that I could run really fast. I ran to my friend’s house and it only took me five seconds. I said, “I have powers!” My friend said, “Let’s tell everyone at school.” 5 Then I said, “I don’t want to tell everyone because we are having a race at school. They will see you fast I am.” The next day my whole school had a race and I won! The teachers said that I am the fastest kid in the world. The next day they had another race. The teachers said that I couldn’t race because I would win again. I felt sad. I couldn’t race because every time we raced, I was going to win. I never had a chance to run because it wasn’t fair for the other kids, but I still wanted to race. So I went back and found the sparkling cake in my backyard. I ate it. It turned me back to normal again. After that, I won races sometimes, and I lost sometimes. I hid the cake somewhere else so that another day I might use it for something that I really need to do. 6 The Spooky Trip to Find My Parents By Nia M. One year I was sleeping when I turned into a Vampire Zombie. My eyes turned white and I saw that my clothes were ripped. I felt for my special glasses. I was frightened. I saw that I had sharp teeth when I looked in the mirror. 7 I went downstairs. I looked to my right. I saw a note. It said: If you want to find your parents follow these steps: 1. Go to the castle. 2. Find the ghost. 3. Give him your eyes and teeth. 4. Get your parents back. So I followed the note. When I got to the castle, it looked like a monster. I went in the castle, and I saw the ghost. I gave him my eyes and teeth, and he gave my parents to me. I still stayed a Vampire Zombie. We all ran home. 8 The Worst Pizza Ever By L’eVyerris D. At night last week I was at the pizza place. We were hungry. There wasn’t any food in the fridge! We always went to this pizza place. Me and my mom and my sister walked to the pizza place, and the lady gave us the pizza. My mama carried the box. I carried the bags of pop. We put the pizza on the table. 9 When we got home and opened the pizza it had snakes in the pizza. The snakes were alive. They looked like the snakes at the zoo. We shut the pizza box really fast. Then they gave us the worst pizza. We didn’t know. I was mad because it was nasty. Then me and my mom made a face. Then we took the pizza back to the pizza place. Then my mom asked the man, “Can we get another pizza because the other pizza was nasty?” She said, “I want my money back.” 10 The Battle of the Chupacabra By Kameron N. One Thursday morning I was in the desert to capture a roadrunner. It was my job to take a roadrunner to my boss. My boss is a chupacabra. He has black and red eyes with night vision. He looks like a black and green spikey dragon with two claws on each foot. He likes to eat roadrunners. 11 I was actually playing my game—Minecraft. Suddenly the power went out. I couldn’t play my game anymore. Then I saw a chupacabra outside my house. I ran to my helicopter. The next day I woke up in my home. 12 The Day My Dinosaur Came to Life By Amaia D. One day I was sleeping in my bed. I was sleeping with my sister in my bedroom. When I woke up my stufed dinosaur was talking to himself softly. Then my dinosaur was not there any more and I got up and I went downstairs and my dinosaur was growing into a real dinosaur outside of my house. 13 I was scared. I screamed, “Help!” I looked up and I saw my dinosaur and she was very big. I felt sad, and I ran to go get my friend. My friend’s name was A’nilah. When my friend saw my dinosaur she ran because she was scared. My friend said, “OMG.” The dinosaur started chasing her down the street. She got away. Then the dinosaur disappeared. When it was gone she came outside and we went in the backyard and we were playing basketball. I said, “Do you want to play?” A’nilah said, “Yes.” After that, we looked for the dinosaur. We found it on someone’s porch. My dinosaur had shrunk. I was happy. 14 Never Eat Pizza By Anthony W. One day in the morning I was walking into the kitchen. I saw a pizza on the table. The pizza was alive and had pokey eyes. When it looked at me, I became a monster. I was a monster size 100 feet tall and I weighed 1000 pounds. I was red and white. I yelled and hid for my life because people might try to kill me. They thought I was going to eat them, but I wasn’t. 15 Fire came out of my mouth when I tried to tell them “I won’t eat you!” The pizza had put a curse on me. Blue eyes fell on the city from the sky. Fire was on the city. Every person on the ground burned. I was sad. I was burning the city. I didn’t know why. My family died and I tried to eat the pizza to save the city. It tasted so bad. I saved kids, but the adults still killed me. They picked me up and tied me on a dragon to take me to another country so they would be safe. The dragon flew me to a magical country. I landed and came back to life. I went back to my city. Then they killed me again. They said it was because they think I took their money because the money was on the dragon, but I did not know. I was innocent but they called the cops. I was scared. So scared! Finally I turned back into a human because the chemicals in the curse stopped working. The people killed me even though I told them I was not a bad monster so those people went to jail. When I turned back into a human, my family came back to life, and we just had fun. Everything was back to normal. HOWEVER, I’m not eating pizza ever again. 16 My Flying Adventure By Timothy C.

TTHHEE MMYYSSTTEERRYY OOFF TTHHEE WWAANNDDEERRIINNGG CCAAVVEEMMAANN M. V. Carey 1 | P a g e Chapter 1 The Stranger in the Fog “ARE YOU ALL RIGHT ?” said a woman’s voice. Jupiter Jones stood still and listened. The afternoon was thick with fog. Fog muffled the noise of the traffic on the Pacific Coast Highway. It hung like a curtain between The Jones Salvage Yard and the houses across the street. It seemed to press in on Jupe. He felt cold and lonely, as if he were the only person in all the world. But someone had spoken, and now there were footsteps. Outside, just beyond the gates of the salvage yard, someone was walking. Then a man spoke, and two people appeared, moving like shadows in the grey light. The man was bent over, and as he walked his feet made slow, scuffling noises on the pavement. The woman was girlish and thin, with long, fair hair that hung straight about her face. “Here’s a bench,” she said, and she guided the man to a seat near the office. “You rest a minute. You should have let me drive. It was too much for you.” “Can I help?” Jupe moved closer to the pair. The man put a hand to his head and looked around in a dazed fashion. “We’re looking for . for . .” He caught at the young woman’s hand. “You do it,” he said. “Find out where we . where we . .” “Harbourview Lane,” said the young woman to Jupe. “We have to go to Harbour- view Lane.” “It’s down the highway and off Sunset,” said Jupe.

  • Meet the Flintstones a Critical Essay on the Perpetuation of the 'Caveman' Stereotype, from the Late 1800'S to Today
Meet the Flintstones A critical essay on the perpetuation of the 'caveman' stereotype, from the late 1800's to today. Sarah Moyneur Master’s Thesis in Archaeology Spring of 2013 Supervisor: Kristina Jennbert Department of Archaeology and Ancient History Lund University 1 Abstract Images can convey a lot in a little space, and communicate in a way that words cannot. For this reason, studying visual communication is important in order to ensure that users are conveying the right message. This thesis aims to better understand paleolithic reconstruction, and the stereotypes that are associated with them with the help of the following theoretical perspectives: gender, visual perspective, agency, and critical theory. Images are taken from three different periods in order to track the progression: the late 1800's, the 1960's, and today. These images are analyzed to extract elements of the stereotype. These elements are discussed in association with their appropriate time periods and paradigms in order to grasp various aspects associated with perpetuation. We see that certain aspects of reconstructions have remained stagnate since the birth of the stereotype in the late 1800's, and that these aspects are the result of various socio-political factors as well as conscious and unconscious motives. In addition to researching the reasons behind stereotype perpetuation, it was necessary to conduct a survey to show how images affect those who are exposed to them. The survey shows that images affect both archaeologically and non-archaeologically trained students to varying degrees. KEYWORDS: Stereotype, Stone Age, Illustrations, Academic, Popular Culture, Perspectives, Socio- Politics, Late 1800's, 1960's, Modern.

In the 1940s and 1950s, America was not particularly liberal, to put it mildly, and definitely not “gay-friendly.” However, as Frederick Suppe writes, [The] cultural and artistic contributions of queers were decidedly subversive, countering attempts to smother gays and lesbians into cultural invisibility with films, plays, literature, music and art that revealed and made public a gay sensibility that spoke to queers everywhere even when the plots and vehicles used to deploy that sensibility were disguised as heterosexual.
