Issue 152 June//Jully 2016 Priice £1 Killin News Editorial

Summer seems to have arrived this year and let’s hope we get more sunshine and warmth than we’ve had in the past two. Good weather makes everyone more cheerful and also brings in more visitors to share all the events Killin has to offer over the next few months. June brings the annual Bob MacGregor Trial weekend and also the new Music Festival, which could perhaps become an annual event, judging by the enthusiasm for it shown at the Fund Raising Concert. Later this summer there will be the Highland Games and the Killin Show, as well as the 10K Run. All these occasions DEADLINES mean a lot of hard work for many locals but encourage more people to visit the village. Ideas for attracting visitors are always welcome and for a Issue 153 possible new one see article on page 9 by David Paterson. Production of the last two issues of the Killin News would not have happened without the generosity and hospitality of the Killin Hotel in allowing us to use their premises. They not only provided useful hints and help when our computers were “playing up”, but also plied us with frequent teas and coffees. To show our appreciation to management and staff we made a small presentation

We would also like to thank Shari at the Wee Bake Shop for taking in the Killin News mail for us when the office was inaccessible and for helping to keep us regularly updated with the many stages of repair work being carried out at the office. 30 Local History Loch Tay Pier Grievance Residents’ Petition A petition that has been widely signed in the Fearnan, Fortingall, and Glenlyon districts is being forwarded to the L.M. and S. Steam Packet Company asking the company to bring Fearnan Pier into use again. During last season the Loch Tay steamer did not maintain its calls at this pier. The reason given was that the pier had fallen into a state of disrepair, and that it would take a considerable sum to make it safe for traffic again. On the other hand, it has been stated that of all the side piers on the loch Fearnan was the busiest. Many persons going to Fortingall and Glenlyon as well as Fearnan, took advantage of the steamer when it called at this pier. The withdrawal of the steamer’s calls, it is contended, has had a bad effect on house-letting. The opportunity of getting a sail on Loch Tay was always regarded as an additional interest by visitors residing in these districts during the summer.
