About this document This document covers the following topics: • Information about printer drivers, PostScript printer description files (PPD/PDD), and setting Fiery EX4112/4127 print options. • Descriptions about each print option including default settings and any constraints or requirements. PRINT OPTIONS OVERVIEW 6

PRINT OPTIONS OVERVIEW

This chapter describes printer drivers and PPD files, Fiery EX4112/4127 print options, and locations for setting print options.

About printer drivers and printer description files The Fiery EX4112/4127 receives files from computers on the network, processes (RIPs) the files, and then sends them to the printer. Windows and Mac OS computers communicate with the Fiery EX4112/4127 by means of a printer driver and PPD files. Windows computers can also communicate with the Fiery EX4112/4127 by means of a Printer Control Language (PCL) printer driver and PDD files (the PCL equivalent of PPD files). Both drivers enable you to use special features of the Fiery EX4112/4127 from the Print dialog box.

A printer driver manages printing communication between your application and the printer. It interprets the instructions generated by the application, merges those instructions with printer-specific options you set, and then translates all information into Adobe PostScript or PCL, a language the printer understands. In other words, the printer driver writes a PostScript or PCL file based on your original file and the options you set from the Print dialog box.

A printer driver also allows you to select print options for your printer. To do this, the printer driver must be matched with a PPD/PDD file for your Fiery EX4112/4127. A PPD/PDD file contains information about the features and capabilities of a particular device (for example, what paper sizes and media types are supported). The printer driver reads the information in this PPD/PDD file and presents that information to you in the form of options you choose from the Print dialog box. The PPD/PDD file for the Fiery EX4112/4127 includes information about the features of both the printer and the Fiery EX4112/4127. For information about the specific print options for the Fiery EX4112/4127, see the table on page 9. PRINT OPTIONS OVERVIEW 7

Setting print options Print options give you access to the special features of your printer and Fiery EX4112/4127. You can specify print options using the following methods: • During Setup Some settings are specified during Setup by the administrator. For information about the current default server settings, contact the administrator or the operator. • From applications With PCL and Adobe PostScript printer drivers, you can specify job settings when you print a job. For information about specifying job settings from Windows applications, see Printing from Windows. For information about specifying job settings from Mac OS applications, see Printing from Mac OS. • From Hot Folders Assign a group of print options for a Hot Folder. When you specify print options for a Hot Folder, the print options are assigned to all jobs sent through that Hot Folder. These print options override any default options. For more information, see Hot Folders Help. • Overrides from Command WorkStation To change job settings from Command WorkStation, double-click a job to display the Properties dialog box. For more information about Command WorkStation, see Command WorkStation Help.

Print option override hierarchy The override hierarchy is as follows: • A user’s printer driver settings override the Fiery EX4112/4127 Setup. • Settings made to Hot Folder/Virtual Printers override the user’s printer driver settings. • Settings made from the job management tools override the user’s printer driver settings. PRINT OPTIONS 8

PRINT OPTIONS

This chapter explains the Fiery EX4112/4127 print options, default settings, and any constraints or requirements. It also provides detailed descriptions of specific print options, beginning on page 20.

Print options and settings In the following table, underlined settings in the Option and settings column indicate default printer driver settings (PPD/PDD defaults). If you do not use the printer driver interface to configure a particular option, the Fiery EX4112/4127 prints the job with the underlined setting.

For options that you configure in Setup from Command WorkStation or WebTools Configure, choosing Printer’s default results in the Fiery EX4112/4127 printing the job with the setting you specified in Setup. For options that cannot be configured in Setup, the Fiery EX4112/4127 prints the job with a preconfigured Printer’s default setting. For more information, see the Requirements, constraints, and information column in the following table.

To determine the current Setup defaults, print the Configuration page from Command WorkStation.

Customizing the printer driver The Basic pane allows you to customize the printer driver using shortcuts (up to 16) for frequently used print options. It saves time because you do not have to open all of the other tabs if you only want to set the options in the Basic tab. The Basic tab initially contains a default group of print options. You can remove these options and add others.

To add shortcuts to the Basic pane, select Customize (button located upper right corner), highlight the print option, and then click Add or Remove. To reposition shortcuts on the Basic pane, highlight the print option and click Move Up or Move Down.

For more detailed procedure, see Driver online Help.

NOTE: When you place a print option in the Basic tab, it still appears in its appropriate category tab and you can set the option from either tab.

NOTE: The Basic tab cannot be empty. If you remove all options from the Basic tab, it will revert to the default set of options. PRINT OPTIONS 9

Forms in Pad The Forms in Pad option allows you to print repeat or individual pages in groups (or “pads”), which are offset and separated by slip sheets. The following procedures provide two examples of the Forms in Pad option in use.

Example: Repeat Forms in Pad

The Forms in Pad option may be used to print identical forms in pads, which are offset by slips sheet, and may be placed on cardboard backing and glued after printing. For example, a doctor’s office uses a standard Patient Information form and would like to print three pads with 50 forms in each pad. The Patient Information form may be one-sided or two-sided (duplex).

To print using repeat Forms in Pad, use the following procedure as a guideline:

Image Shift Image Shift allows you to specify how much the image on each page should be shifted relative to the X (horizontal) and Y (vertical) axes. Moving the job content in this manner enables you to allow for various finishing options, such as stapling and binding. Image Shift prevents the image from being clipped.

NOTE: This option is not available for PCL printing.

NOTE: This option is effective only for jobs in which the Pages per sheet option is set to 1-up.

TO DEFINE IMAGE SHIFT FOR A PRINT JOB 1 In the printer driver, click the Image Shift tab.

2 Select the unit of measurement. 3 Enter the Front image shift settings using the X and Y axis fields. You can also use the arrow buttons to adjust the image settings.

NOTE: The maximum value for both X and Y axes is 999.99 points/13.89 inches/352.77 mm. 4 To align front and back images proportionately, select Align front and back images. PRINT OPTIONS 27

Mixed Media The Mixed Media feature allows you to define the chapter divisions of a print job and to print certain pages, or ranges of pages, on varying types of media. For example, you can use this option to add blank pages or to specify duplex pages within a single print job. You can also use Mixed Media to specify chapter-based finishing options, which treat each chapter as a separate finishing or duplexing set.

You can access Mixed Media from Command WorkStation or the printer driver. Instructions for accessing and using Mixed Media are provided in the Command WorkStation online Help. Features specific to the Fiery EX4112/4127 are described in Utilities.

The following procedure describes how to access and print with Mixed Media for Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003 computers.

NOTE: Mixed Media is not supported for Mac OS printer driver.

TO ACCESS MIXED MEDIA FROM THE PRINTER DRIVER 1 Select Print from your application, and click Properties. 2 Select the Media tab, then click Mixed Media Define.

The Mixed Media dialog box appears. PRINT OPTIONS 28

3 Select from the following options: Chapter Start Page(s): Use this option to designate chapter divisions, using comma-separated values (for example: 4,9,17) to designate the start of each new chapter. It is not necessary to type the first page.

NOTE: Page refer to the numbering of the original document.

Define Each Chapter As A Separate Finishing Set: Select this option to apply finishing options (such as stapling) or two-sided printing to each chapter created with the Chapter Start Page(s) option. For two-sided printing, this forces each starting page to use a right-side page, adding a preceding left-sided blank, if necessary.

NOTE: If you use the Chapter Start Page(s) and Define Each Chapter As A Finishing Set options, all media specified in the chapter or set must share the same dimensions (for example, all Letter, all Tabloid, or all A4).

Define Page Range: Use this option to assign page attributes (Duplex printing, Media Type, Page Size, Paper Source, Folding, and Tab Shift) to specific pages, or ranges of pages. Once you have set page attributes, select Add Definition to save your settings.

Insert Blank: Use this option to assign page attributes (Media Type, Print Size, Page Size and Paper Source) to blanks pages. 4 Once you have set page attributes, click Add Definition or Insert. You can save up to 100 different settings for the Selection List in the Mixed Media dialog box. 5 Click OK.

The way you define Mixed Media from the printer drivers is very similar to the way you define Mixed Media in Command WorkStation. For more detailed procedures, see Utilities.

Paper Catalog Paper Catalog is a system-based database that dynamically stores the attributes of any media available for printing from the Fiery EX4112/4127. You can select any media from those listed for your job or specify a particular paper size to view only media with specified dimensions.

The following procedure describes how to access Paper Catalog from the printer driver. PRINT OPTIONS 29

For information about accessing Paper Catalog from Command WorkStation and Hot Folders, see Utilities.

For information about using Paper Catalog, see Utilities and Paper Catalog online Help.

Scale and Scale to Fit The Scale option is available in the printer driver and Command WorkStation. The operator can specify a scaling override, but the override is applied to any scaling value already set in the active job. For example, if a user sends a job with a scaling value of 50% and the operator specifies a Scale override of 300%, the job is printed at 150% of the original document size, that is, 50% of 300%.

The Scale to Fit option allows you to scale a job to a paper size different from the image size. When you set this option to On, the image is increased or reduced in size to fit a paper size you select from the Paper size option. When this option is set to Off, the original document size is printed without any scaling, even if you print to a larger paper size.

NOTE: This option is not available for PCL printing.

Additional information The following sections describe the controls, options and printing characteristics of Booklet Maker’s standard 2-up formats.

Booklet Type When you select a Booklet Type, you choose a combination of Binding method, which determines the way the job is folded and imposed, and a Binding edge, which determines the placement of the common fold, or spine. Together these options determine the pagination scheme, layout orientation, and any rotation of page content in your booklet.

Binding Edge Booklet Maker includes the following Binding Edge options:

Left-edge binding, which is typically used for languages that read from left to right.

Right-edge binding, which is typically used for languages that read from right to left.

Top-binding, which is typically used for calendars and legal-size reports.

The following illustrates how Binding edge corresponds to printed output.

Left edge Right edge Top edge

. BOOKLET MAKER 37

Booklet Maker creates booklets by imposing four (4) individual pages on a single sheet of paper. Each sheet is printed duplex (two-sided), with two pages per side, which is called “2-up imposition.” The following illustrates how Binding edge determines the page imposition in a 2-up signature:

.

Left-edge binding signature

Right-edge binding signature

Top-edge binding signature BOOKLET MAKER 38

Binding Method Booklet Maker provides three 2-up Binding methods: Saddle, Nested Saddle, and Perfect. The Binding method you choose will be determined by job size, media attributes, cost analysis, and style or other preferences. For example, Saddle binding is the most economical binding method, but it is not suited for large booklets. Conversely, Perfect binding is a more expensive and involved process, but is better for larger print jobs. The Nested Saddle method is suitable for both small and large booklets.

The following methods are available for Booklet Maker’s 2-up booklets:

Saddle binding Saddle binding, also called Saddle-stitch binding, is the simplest binding method. In Saddle binding, the signatures are folded together as a group, and then stapled or stitched along the center fold, or spine.

.

.

Saddle Binding BOOKLET MAKER 39

Perfect binding Perfect binding differs from Saddle binding in the way the signatures are folded, which in turn determines the way the pages are imposed. In Saddle binding the signatures are folded as a group, while in Perfect binding each signature is folded individually. The finished pages are stacked adjacent to one another along the common fold, which form the spine of your booklet.

.

Perfect binding

Nested Saddle binding Nested Saddle binding combines the Saddle and Perfect binding methods by creating two or more subsets (also called “groups”), which are stacked together along the common fold, or spine.

Nested saddle binding BOOKLET MAKER 40

Number of sheets in each subset (Nested Saddle only): If you select Nested Saddle binding, use this option to specify the number of sheets to allocate to each Nested Saddle subset (also called “group”).The default is two (2) printed sheets, which corresponds to eight (8) pages.

Paper size and Document size Paper size is the size of the actual sheet of paper (unfolded) on which your booklet will print. Document Size is the size of each page in your original document. In designing your booklet, it may be useful to think of Document size as the electronic input (the page size defined in your original application) and Paper size as the physical output (the size of the actual piece of paper in the printer tray).

In order to print booklets, your original document must consist of smaller pages, which print on larger sheets of paper. For example, a Letter-size booklet prints on 11x17 inch paper, or an A4-size booklet (297x210 mm) prints on A3 paper (297x420 mm).

Document size (input) Paper size (output)

11.0 in 11.0 in

8.5 in 17.0 in

297mm 297mm

210mm 420mm

Booklet Maker reads the page size information from your original document and displays it as Document size, primarily to assist in choosing a Paper size. However, Document size is a valid option, which allows you to override your document page size without exiting Booklet Maker. Any change you make to Document size in Booklet Maker will be reflected back to your application’s driver. For limitations, see page 45.

NOTE: When you access Booklet Maker from Command WorkStation Job Properties., Document size is not an option. To change Document size, you need to access Booklet Maker from the printer driver or return to your application’s Print setup (or Page setup) dialog box. BOOKLET MAKER 41

Orientation Orientation is the (relation of width to height) defined in your original document. Booklet Maker reads this information from your application’s driver and displays Portrait or Landscape, depending on the aspect ratio, where Portrait=height greater than (>) width, and Landscape equals width greater than (>) height. Based on the aspect ratio of your original document, and to maximize paper usage, Booklet Maker orients the pages as such:

Portrait (height > width) 1 row x 2 columns

Landscape (width > height) 2 rows x 1 column

Orientation is defined in your application’s Print setup (or Page setup) dialog box. However, you can override your document’s Orientation, without exiting Booklet Maker. Any change you make in Booklet Maker will be reflected back to your application’s driver. For limitations, please see page 45. BOOKLET MAKER 42

Shrink to Fit Based on the page size in your original document and the Paper size you select, Booklet Maker calculates scale automatically as follows:

Document size in relation to Paper size Scale factor

If Document size (<) less than or equal to one-half Paper size 100%

If Document size (>) greater than one-half Paper size Shrink to fit

By default Shrink to Fit is On. If Shrink to Fit is set to Off, the pages print at 100 percent, which may result in the clipping of page content.

In some cases, you may need to override Booklet Maker’s automatic scaling so that your document pages print at 100 percent. For example, if your document includes printer’s marks that extend the Document size beyond one-half the Paper size, you will need to turn off Shrink to Fit so that the desired content prints at 100%, otherwise the entire page (including the printer’s marks) will be scaled down to fit within specified Paper size.

NOTE: The Shrink to Fit control is accessible only in Advanced mode. BOOKLET MAKER 43

Page Alignment Page Alignment allows you to define the horizontal (left- and right-binding) or vertical placement (top-binding) of the printable image on the page. Page Alignment also allows you to manually increase the gutter and to compensate for creep.

At the center positions the center of document page area with the center of one-half sheet size, creating a gutter that you can further adjust manually.

At the spine positions document page content aligned with spine (the center of the sheet where fold occurs), where gutter=0, but can be increased manually.

When your Document size is less than (<) one-half the sheet size, Align pages shifts the content noticeably.

When your Document size is greater or equal (>) to one-half the sheet size, Align pages has no visible effect.

The Align pages option defines the initial position of page content, which may then be further adjusted by manually increasing the gutter.

Increase gutter by defines the distance (in millimeters or inches) between adjacent pages in your document.

The supported range is 0-50 mm (1 mm increments) or 0.0-1.97 inches (.04 in increments).

NOTE: Note that the value specified for gutter does not change the page margins defined in your original document. The gutter is an additional margin designed to allow space for binding. BOOKLET MAKER 44

When aligned At the spine, the distance between facing page equals one-half the gutter value.

When aligned At the center, the distance between facing page equals one-half the gutter value, plus the initial offset of pages Aligned at center.

Creep Compensation (Saddle and Nested Saddle only) Creep occurs in Saddle and Nested Saddle booklets printed on heavy media or with a large number of pages. As the sheets are folded to create signatures, each fold causes a small incremental shift in the location the imageable area on those pages. The result is that the outer margins become narrower toward the center of the booklet and the page content may be clipped or print to close to the binding.

.

Creep

To Compensate for Creep, select one of the following: Off: Leave option unchecked to print booklet jobs without creep adjustment. Normal: Choose this setting when printing Saddle or Nested Saddle booklets on plain media, but with a large number of pages. Thick: Choose this setting when printing Saddle or Nested Saddle booklets on thick or heavyweight media. BOOKLET MAKER 45

NOTE: Even if you select Thick from the Creep Compensation menu, you still need to select a the desired media.

Cover Content (Saddle only) When printing Saddle booklets, Booklet Maker includes the option to specify Front and Back cover content, which allows you to quickly define the printing characteristics of the first and last sheets of your document without having to create blank page(s) in the original document.

When printing a Saddle booklet, you may also choose to include Cover content as part of your booklet job or choose to insert a pre-printed cover. For available settings, see Cover Content in the table on page 34.

Cover Media (Saddle only) The Cover Media options allow you to select a Cover size that differs from the body pages in your booklet. Booklet Cover Source allows you to choose mixed media for your cover and body pages. For available settings, see Cover Media in the table on page 34.

Limitations and constraints Document size override

Booklet Maker allows you to override the Document size defined in your original document and the change is reflected back into your application’s driver.
