2 Bibliography on Asian American Studies Programs in Higher Education

Introduction

Since the late 1960's, Asian American studies programs have been developed at many colleges and universities, especially in the WestF However, these programs often receive little attention in discussions or investigations of ethnic studies programs in higher education. This bibliography has been compiled to identify available papers, articles, and reports on Asian Amerian studies programs for students, instructors, educational administrators, researchers, and others who might be interested in ethnic studies programs or in educational issues related to Asian and Pacific

American groups.'

Some of the titles in this bibliography may be difficult to obtain except through the use of interlibrary loan procedures.

Several titles are papers presented at the annual meetings of the

National Association for Asian and Pacific American Education

(formerly the National Association for Asian American and Pacific

Education); many of these may be obtained from the Japanese

American Curriculum Project.2 Titles which are part of the

Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) document system are so identified. Copies of these may be ordered through the

ERIC Document Reproduction Service.' Also, several hundred libraries and other organizations have collections of ERIC documents on microfiche.4

In conclusion, a few additional sources of information on Asian

American studies programs will be mentioned. A number of programs have produced materials which describe their activities.

Currently, the Asian American Studies Program at the University of

California-Berkeley publishes an occasional newsletter, "Asian

American Report,"' and the Asian American Studies Center at the

University of California-Los Angeles publishes a quarterly newsmagazine, Cross Currents.6 Asian American community newspapers are another source of information on Asian American studies programs.' Often these can be found at libraries which have extensive Asian American collections.° Finally, the Asian

American Studies Library at the University of California-Berkeley5 and the Asian American Studies Reading Room at the University of

California-Los Angeles" have numerous materials on Asian American studies programs.''
