ISRAEL Inspired by Innovation at MWC 2013 Barcelona , February 25-28, 2013 Hall 5 ▪ 5I60 | 5I70 | 5I84 | 5H70 Inspired by Innovation ISRAEL Inspired by innovation at MWC 2013 Barcelona , February 25-28, 2013 Hall 5 ▪ 5I60 | 5I70 | 5I84 | 5H70 Inspired by Innovation A global leader in mobile telecommunications, Israel is back in Barcelona for Mobile World Congress 2013, presenting a full spectrum of state-of-the-art product solutions tailored for carriers, operators, retailers, content providers, app stores, enterprise and users. The Israel Pavilion at Mobile World Congress 2013 will provide a centrally located, high profile venue for 67 of Israel’s leading high technology companies, presenting the latest solutions for current and future mobile communications. The pavilion is organized by The Israel Export & International Cooperation Institute in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry, Trade & Labor. This year we are showcasing 40 novel mobile apps in our Virtual App world. Visitors can experience these apps live in our pavilion. The Israeli exhibits highlight infrastructure and support hardware and software that enable efficient conversion to the latest 4G networks, while optimizing the performance of current systems, thus maximizing operator revenue. Other Israeli companies are demonstrating advanced mobile payments, e-health, billing and usage-based data-mining systems, enabling operators to best adapt to changing market conditions. Israeli exhibitors also focus on handset solutions, with advanced microchips and software products enhancing the functionality, ease of use and usability of smartphones. As well, content is a strong presence at the show, featuring social networking, gaming and music sharing applications. Lowering roaming and international communications costs are also featured, with applications bridging WiFi and cellular links, offering operators greater revenues while keeping subscribers within reach, and more. Supported by member firms, private sector bodies, and the Israeli government, The Israel Export & International Cooperation Institute promotes business relationships between Israeli exporters and overseas businesses and organizations. By providing a wide range of export– oriented services to Israeli companies and complementary services to the international business community, IEICI helps build successful joint ventures, strategic alliances and trade partnerships. The countryside in central Israel has been exposed to extremely heavy land development pressures. These pressures have had far-reaching consequences which are expressed in changes in employment patterns and the reallocation of agricultural land for nonagricultural enterprises. In response to these trends, changes have occurred in the national and district planning authorities aimed at the reinforcement and preservation of agricultural land and open spaces with an emphasis on environmental issues, the countryside’s landscape and tourism (ILA National Outline Plan no. 31, 35; District Outline Plan no. 3/21). For the purpose of efficiently managing land resources in Israel’s countryside and for the purpose of implementing a policy preserving the countryside’s landscape and agricultural uses — it is important to clarify the opinions of the countryside’s residents regarding the region’s future and the conditions required for the preservation of agricultural pursuits.

  • Re-Romanticizing Commons and Community in Israeli Discourse: Social, Economic, and Political Motives
671 Re-romanticizing Commons and Community in Israeli Discourse: Social, Economic, and Political Motives Amnon Lehavi* Public discourse in Israel is taking a somewhat surprising turn in its vacillation between individualism and collectivism. While mainstream public opinion in the 1980s and 1990s pointed to the failures of common- and public-property regimes, elected officials, entrepreneurs, and consumers are nowadays singing the praises of commons and communities. The re-romanticizing of commons and community is driven by a number of explicit and implicit motives, which also underscore, however, the limits of a full-fledged return to common-property regimes. This article highlights three instances of the reemergence of the commons- and community-discourse across the Israeli landscape. First, while the old-style “cooperative kibbutz” suffered a substantial decline in past decades, the evolution of a new type of midlevel communitarianism in the “renewing kibbutz” has led to a growing demand to join the ranks of such kibbutzim. Second is the development of urban shared office-space compounds such as WeWork, and the next phase of urban commons: co-living buildings. Third, the emergence of “community villages” on state-owned lands, located mostly in Israel’s peripheral areas, has been praised by governmental agencies and residents alike as restoring a key * Dean and Atara Kaufman Professor of Real Estate, Radzyner Law School, and Academic Director, Gazit-Globe Real Estate Institute, Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya.
