We would often walk past the cottage and think that it had a lovely feeling about it and that it would be perfect for a family, so we jumped at the opportunity to buy it when it became available,” recall the current owners. “Located in the centre of the village, we can step out of the front door and walk for miles across the fields. We’re keen cyclists too and it’s quick and easy to get onto the smaller lanes away from the main roads. There’s a good village atmosphere here, as well as a shop and a nice gastro pub just at the end of the road. Our boys could hop on the train to go to school which was great as we knew they were safe, and it gave them their independence. We appreciate the benefits of living in the countryside, yet we’re close to the outskirts of the city of Birmingham which has really suited us.” “We’ve lived here for 23 years and the garden was just fields when we moved in. We’ve enjoyed planting trees and designing different areas, including the informal space where we have our vegetable patch and fruit cages. It’s full of butterflies and we often see egrets and red kites soaring overhead. Our boys always had friends camping in the Shepherd’s Hut in the garden and the block paved driveway has been the scene of many social events, including celebrating the Royal Weddings and the opening of the London Olympics. We’ve enjoyed BBQs in the garden along with 50 guests and the conservatory has plenty of space should the weather take a turn for the worse.” “My husband enjoys spending time in his studio and workshop above the garage, whilst I can often be found in the conservatory as it’s lovely and light and has wonderful views over the garden. I’ve always appreciated being able to easily access the road and rail links for work purposes and the location really is as good as it gets. Myrtle Cottage is a great family home in a fabulous location and our lads have been lucky enough to experience an idyllic upbringing here. We’ll be very sorry to leave but we’re moving to be closer to our family and we’ll certainly be replicating the informal garden as it’s brought us much joy,” conclude the current owners.* * These comments are the personal views of the current owner and are included as an insight into life at the property.
