Havingread the first two books inthe Maze Runner series, I decided to venture into book three, The DeathCure byJames Dashner. This book picks up right where book two left off, the maincharacter Thomas beingrecaptured bythe organizationWICKED. Theyhave chosenThomas and his remainingfriends to participate inthe finalstage oftestingto fight a disease called “The Flare”. We are brought alongside Thomas ona journey out into a zombie-like apocalyptic world.I had a two-sided experience withreadingthis book. Onone hand, I thoroughlyenjoyed the adventure Dashner takes us on. I loved the picture he paints ofhow biologicalwarfare could lead to the crumble ofsocietyas we know it. The fictional, yet realistic take onwhat the future ofearthcould hold thrilled me. The world Dashner describes resembles what we see around us today, onlywithan eerie twist. Onthe other hand, I felt that the dialogue was slow and a bit sticky. I would recommend devouringthis book at a fast pace, enabling youto speed throughthe sometimes-stale dialogue and enjoythe plot. I would definitelyrecommend this book for youngadult readers but perhaps not anyhigher readinglevel.
