Trumpet Audition Etudes Etude #1 excerpt (on pg. 49 of this booklet) – Performance notes regarding this excerpt are on page 49) Etude #2 excerpt (on pg. 50 of this booklet) – Performance notes regarding this excerpt are on page 50) Mellophone Audition Etudes Technical Etude - (on pg. 51 of this booklet) Lyrical Etude: Musician's choice Choose a lyrical solo, etude, or band/orchestral excerpt that displays your best musicianship. Music may be written for any instrument originally, but should be played within standard range on mellophone (low C below staff to high C above staff, approximately- more expanded range is available on the instrument, if your personal range allows to be performed with a characteristic sound). Concert french horn and trumpet selections may be played on concert instrument, if you prefer. All other audition material will be played on mellophone. Your selection should last about 60 seconds at your performance tempo, and showcase the following skills: · Playing in the lyrical style · Smooth & connected airstream, legato and/or combined articulations · Evenness of tone quality throughout range of selection · Musical interpretation & knowledge of phrasing, appropriate to the style/period of the music selected. Bluecoats Visual Video Auditions Welcome! We’re glad you’ve decided to audition for the Bluecoats for the 2020 season. It’s going to be an incredible season and we hope you will be a part of it. We understand that there are extenuating circumstances that keep you from auditioning in person. Realize that when submitting a video audition, we only get a small glimpse into your ability and achievement. Make sure that you are putting your best foot forward (no pun intended) and giving us the best possible product. The standard at Bluecoats is excellence and this video audition must meet that standard. Audition Part 1 – High Mark Time (20 points) - Tempo: 108 bpm - Camera Angle: Side View - Step Size: No Marching Needed - Verbal Description: Start in an open 1st position and an eight-count count-in. Counts 1-2 your left foot picks up of the ground, then the ankle bone travels up along the leg counts 2-5. Counts 5-8 the leg travels back down, foot touches the ground counts 8-1. The process repeats on the right leg in the same way. Do three times on each leg then stop. Audition Part 2 – Slide Direction Changes (30 points) - Tempo: 142 bpm - Camera Angle: Front View (Upper body facing camera) - Step size: 8-5 (Needs to be on a marching field) - Verbal Description: Start facing down the field in an open 1st position and an eight-count count- in. Counts 5,6,7 of the count-in rotate to face forward. March forward 8 steps in a slide, direction change backwards 8 counts in a slide, direction change forward 8 counts in a slide, direction change backwards 8 counts in a slide, then close at the end.
