WINE LIST Spring 2018 WINE LIST Spring 2018 Condé Nast Johansens Champagne Taittinger Best Wine By The Glass 2018 3 Stars & Jury Award - Worlds Best Wine List Awards 2017 Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence 2017 Condé Nast Johansens Champagne Taittinger Wine List of The Year 2017 & Best Fine Wines By the Glass 2017 AA Notable Wine List Award since 2013 -1- -2- PHILOSOPHY The selection of wine on the following pages maintains the same element of care and focus that all products at Park House attain. We have tried to make our list as easy to use as possible. We have focused on finding wines that highlight varietal and regional expressions. Over the last year we have added many new wines and concentrated on building back vintages of new and existing listings. Finding and then buying some of the worlds rarest and most prestigious wines can be intensely rewarding. However, we employ a strict selection process to establish that the provenance of each bottle is of the highest quality. So, therefore, many wines are direct from vineyards cellars or from trusted sources that have the correct wine storing facilities. Over the past five years I have visited wineries in Bordeaux, Burgundy, Oregon, Santa Barbera, Napa Val- ley, Rioja, Piemonte, South Africa and toured Australia. These trips have developed relationships with winemakers and further enhanced our winelist’s depth. As a result, we continue to host the worlds greatest winemakers in our ‘meet the winemaker dinners’. Due to our burgeoning list, we have recently converted one of the 2nd-floor rooms into a climate con- trolled and sealed wine cellar that now houses our collection in the correct conditions. It ensures that every wine now reaches you in perfect condition and also looks the part! To ensure that our wines by the glass reach you in perfect condition we use three wine preservation systems called Enomatic, Le Verre du Vin and the industry changing Coravin. We only use Riedel glassware which we believe is the best way to present our wines to you. And finally every time you have the occasion to enjoy a glass of wine it is an opportunity to experience something new; So I would encourage you to engage with our staff to maximise your enjoyment of this selection of wine. I hope you enjoy exploring this list as much as I enjoyed putting it together! Adam Pledger, Owner, Wine Buyer & Sommelier -3- -4- Index The discovery of a good wine is increasingly better for mankind than the discovery of a new star. Unlike most large houses, Champagne Taittinger relies primarily on estate grapes for its portfolio of Champagnes. Also unique are the higher proportion of Chardonnay in its wines that gives Taittinger its signature style, this and the time devoted to aging the wines before release is a Taittinger hallmark. By the Glass Bottle 100ml NV Taittinger Brut Reserve £10.00 £60 A blend of Chardonnay (40%) and Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier (60%) wines from over 35 different vineyards and vintages matured to perfection. It manages to strike a fine balance of velvety and full-bodied. NV Taittinger Nocturne Sec £13.00 £75 An exciting and beautifully balanced Champagne and the the tiny touch of sweetness makes for a soft and mellow wine that is perfect to drink well into the night. We love this Champagne because it is a perfect aperitif and a perfect after-dinner wine! 2006 Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blanc, Taittinger £25.00 £175 One of the greatest Blanc de Blancs champagnes produced exclusively from top quality Chardonnay grapes grown in ‘Grand Cru’ rated vineyards. Soft lemon sherbet on the palate, the wine has a beautiful weight and lovely finish Sparkling Shiraz By the Glass Bottle 100ml 2011 Black Queen Shiraz, Peter Lehmann, Barossa, Australia £8.50 £55 Intensely flavoured Shiraz grapes from old-low yielding vines create this wine inspired by the ground- breaking ‘Sparkling Burgundy’ of the 1950s – one of Australia’s unique contributions to the wine world. Named after the Queen of Sheba, this Black Queen is deep in colour, with aromas of choco- late and dark cherry and full of exotic fruit flavours. -7- Glasses of Wine White Wine 125ml 175ml Riesling 2015 Pewsey Vale Riesling, Pewsey Vale, Eden Valley, Australia £5 £8 2015 is a classic example of dry Eden Valley Riesling, showing the flavours we see so consistently each year from this wonderful single vineyard. This wine shows intense aromas of talcum and lemon lime fruit, with a fine floral perfume overlaying dried herb. The palate shows great length and depth with limes, white flowers and fresh rosemary. The wine finishes with a fresh natural acidity, which balances the flavour intensity. 2009 Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile, Trimbach, Alsace, France £11 £16 This bone dry Riesling is without doubt one of the wines of the world and we are delighted to offer this incred- ible wine by the glass. Deep golden, vibrant and reflective color. Aromas of lush ripe white peaches with a hint of beeswax honey. On the palate, dense and intense flavors of burnt orange peel, lemon zest, and stone fruits with subtle elements of minerality and honeycomb. 2013 Lorcher Schlossberg Riesling Spätlese, Eva Fricke, Rheingau, Germany £13 £19 Eva Fricke is one of Germany’s top female winemakers and is part of this dynamic ‘young generation’ of German winemakers producing exciting wines that simply deserve to be discovered. Sweet, textured and pure this Spätlese is a wonderful wine. Sauvignon Blanc 2016 Sauvignon Blanc, Grove Mill, Marlborough, New Zealand £5 £8 Classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc - flavours of passionfruit and blackcurrant leaf with underlying notes of wet stone and thyme. The palate is wonderfully full and rich with striking minerality leading to a long, lasting finish. 2013 Sancerre, Chateau de Fontaine Audon, Langlois-Chateau, Loire Valley £8 £12 Chateau de Fontaine-Audon is one of only 4 Chateau in Sancerre. This stunning wine has an intense nose of grape- fruit and passion fruit. Full fresh elegant palate with a mineral finish. This is one of the most exhilarating Sancerres that we have come across. 2012 Pouilly Fumé Triptyque, Alain Cailbourdin, Loire, France £12 £17 Alain Cailbourdin has drawn on 70 year-old vines to treat us to a typically fine-tuned wine, full of weighty, rich, chalky fruit. Fermented in new oak which adds an elegant weight and depth to the wine. This is an extraordinary wine that reminds you why the Loire is Sauvignon Blanc. Viognier 2013 Viognier, Bogle Winery, Clarksburg, California, USA £7 £10 Another stunning wine from the Bogle family in the cool Sacramento delta of California. Appetizing display of luscious aromas with fresh apricot and pear fruit tang on the palate. Rousanne 2015 Eden Valley Rousanne, Yalumba, Eden Valley, Australia £5 £8 This is seriously good quality wine. Full-bodied and textural, but fresh thanks to lively acidity Honeysuckle, dried herbs, white pepper and woodsy spices mingle with stone fruit, honeydew melon and creamed-honey yet a rous- sanne definitely in the savoury spectrum. Wild-fermented in used French barriques, left on lees for 10 months. -8- Glasses of Wine White Wine 125ml 175ml Chardonnay 2015 St Veran “Les Ombrelles”, Jean Loron, Burgundy, France £7 £10 Tucked away in the far reaches of the Mâconnais, Saint-Véran covers 8 communes. Its vines sweep down two sides of the majestic Rock de Solutré and surround Pouilly-Fuissé. This Saint-Véran comes from the village of Saint-Vérand, located at the southern point of the vineyard. Punctuated with yellow floral and honey notes, it has a well-balanced structure and a good intensity with plenty of freshness on the finish. 2015 Estate Chardonnay, Heggies Vineyards, Eden Valley, Australia £8 £11 The Heggies vineyard is one of the most prized vineyards in Australia and is renowned for producing fabulous quality Chardonnay. Ripe stone fruit flavours are seamlessly integrated with creamy barrel ferment characters and well handled oak.

ÅA Wars in the Middle East are almost an every day part of Eero Junkkaala:of Three Canaan Conquests our lives, and undeniably the history of war in this area is very long indeed. This study examines three such wars, all of which were directed against the Land of Canaan. Two campaigns were conducted by Egyptian Pharaohs and one by the Israelites. The question considered being Eero Junkkaala whether or not these wars really took place. This study gives one methodological viewpoint to answer this ques- tion. The author studies the archaeology of all the geo- Three Conquests of Canaan graphical sites mentioned in the lists of Thutmosis III and A Comparative Study of Two Egyptian Military Campaigns and Shishak and compares them with the cities mentioned in Joshua 10-12 in the Light of Recent Archaeological Evidence the Conquest stories in the Book of Joshua. Altogether 116 sites were studied, and the com- parison between the texts and the archaeological results offered a possibility of establishing whether the cities mentioned, in the sources in question, were inhabited, and, furthermore, might have been destroyed during the time of the Pharaohs and the biblical settlement pe- riod. Despite the nature of the two written sources being so very different it was possible to make a comparative study. This study gives a fresh view on the fierce discus- sion concerning the emergence of the Israelites. It also challenges both Egyptological and biblical studies to use the written texts and the archaeological material togeth- er so that they are not so separated from each other, as is often the case.

I walked to work on 8th Street, just seven blocks from the U.S. Capitol, to meet my expectant colleagues. Greetings abounded as I entered, and I knew that in their minds, they wondered, “What will she be like? What Moment will the next year look like?” It feels like yesterday – yet now I’m starting my fourth year. You’ve experienced the same phenomenon – time speeding by. That first year, I often used the phrase, “Let's see what God does in one, three, five, seven, 10 years." The first year is always one of listening, observing, and analyzing; the following years involved acting on what I had heard and seen. The CCCU has refreshed its membership criteria, and we have revitalized our member services. At the last New Presidents Institute this past July, a participant said what they appreciated about the CCCU’s programs and services is that they are not merely transactional – they aim to be transformational, with Christ at the core.
