ESC Congress 2008 M U N I C H
ESC Congress 2008 M U N I C H Munich Germany 30 August - 3 September Final Programme www.escardio.org Welcome address We have great pleasure welcoming you all to the ESC Congress 2008 in Munich. The ESC Congress is a unique forum where the world’s medical professionals meet with colleagues to exchange ideas and informa- tion in the field of cardiovascular medicine. Given the excellent programme we are confident that our congress will provide you with the very best in science and education. This year’s highlight theme is cardiovascular imaging. The exponential development in technology has resulted in the rapid integration of cardiovascular imaging into clinical cardiology. It is now unthinkable to manage patients with cardiovascular disease without the use of echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, magnetic resonance imaging or the most recent addition to the diagnostic armamentarium, cardiac CT. The latest technolo- gical developments will be discussed in Munich and particular emphasis will be placed on how and when to use which imaging modality in daily patient care. Once again the scientific programme as a whole has all the ingredients to make the congress a great success. The latest news in science will be presented at the Hot Lines and the Clinical Trial Updates and several of these sessions will be followed by specific “Meet the Trialists” symposia. Groundbreaking technological deve- lopments in the fields of imaging and intervention will be showcased in the FOCUS sessions, some of which will feature live action from clinics via satellite. In reaction to your feedback from last year we have expanded the range of practical How-To, Meet and Read with Experts sessions, they will continue to provide clear take-home messages for the practicing clinician. -

ESC Annual Report 2006
EUROPEAN SOCIETY OF Annual CARDIOLOGY ® Report 2006 President and Chief Executives’ Report to Members President and Chief Executives’ Report to Members It is our pleasure to report to you again on the activities of the European Society of Cardiology Board 2004-2006.This year we have completed a number of tasks. We will first list the new initiatives, and follow with the description of the core activities of the Society. Having achieved most strategic goals defined in 2003, the Board – in consultation with all constituent bodies – prepared a new strategy, defined in detail in a document available on the ESC Website. Most importantly, this document not only lists the goals of the Society for the next years, but also defines a new, simplified mission, proposes objectives describing how to achieve the strategic goals, describes the core values of the Society, and for the first time sets up the ESC Code of Ethics. Most relevant changes in the strategy include involvement in research, more active interaction with constituent bodies, and provision of global leadership in the area of cardiovascular health. The Board proposed several changes to the ESC Statutes, in order to assure clearer internal rules. We are also happy to announce two proposed changes in the ESC structure. First, a long discussion with EuroPCR and the Europa organisation resulted in an agreement to form the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI). This new structure, pending an approval of the General Assembly, will enable all existing European organisations representing interventional cardiology to join forces. We regard it as a big step forward in integration of the specialty of cardiology. -
